Unless I've picked something up wrong, this game is set in the Old Republic time frame (hence its called Star Wars: The Old Republic) which was before Emperor Palpatine came to power - therefore there was no Empire, or a Rebelion

Yep, it takes place more than 3500 years before the movies and the choices should be the Sith Empire or the Galactic Republic.

Neither. There will be no Imperials, nor Rebels in this game. Maybe you should read up a bit more...
Or better yet, go play KOTOR so that you have some idea of what to expect.
As others are saying there is no Empire or Alliance in the timeframe of this game.
However with that being said, I will play as a Jedi. I usually like playing the bad guy (like in fable 2 i'm maxed out bad muwahahaha) but with Star Wars I love everything about Jedi. They just hold a special place for me.
if you meant sith or republic, i will be a neutral bounty hunter working out of concord dawn, my home planet.
i usually jump at the chance to play a bad guy in games but i think in this im gonna have to go republic because jedi are the ownage :P

I'll be playing as Sith. I'm curious to know why so many people are picking the"bad guy" side these days though. 61% so far are going Sith, hmmmmm.
I'll be Republic. Typically, I'd be an evil/expansionistic faction, but I just can't stand the crude sort of evil the Sith employ. Even cunning, steathy Sith end up being crude somehow.
OMFG WTFs with people. This game isnt ****ing SWG, there isnt an Imperial side or a Rebel side. Its Republic against Sith Empire. When are ex- SWG players gonna resepect this game for what it is? Seriously, its getting annoying now. Look I underdstand yoll miss the old SWG, but alot has happened since then so get the **** over it.

Yes, I'm SURE the origional poster ment to mess with you when they put the pole up as empire or rebel. As a mater of fact I bet they are playing SWG and writing hate mail to Bioware as we speak!

People should get a real understanding about topics before they start a thread. I am sure this game will be unlike any other lucas arts have produced. And Jerid13 dont call me sir when you have no idea what sex I am... I dont dislike SWG I think it might have made a good game.
Perhaps other fans of Star Wars can resepect this game for what it is, and not for what they want it to be.

sith, they have way better force powers IMHO, wow..jedis can push things around...so can david copperfield..wow, they can run fast..cool. but im happy with being able to choke someone with my mind, or shock them to death with my palm.

Why don't these polls ever allow people to pic both? That's what alts are for!
If its not be like in WoW or PoTBS that you can pick only one of the side you want to play with.
Then you can be sure that I will try every possibility about class or side you can choose from.
About alts, sure you can make many of them but If ask me first will play as many as i want with my main character until try other class etc.
