Blizzard announced today that their highly anticipated MMORPG "World of Warcraft" will be in stores on November 23, 2004.  Their official press release is below:

IRVINE, Calif. - November 4, 2004 - Blizzard Entertainment today announced that its eagerly awaited massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) World of Warcraft will be in stores in North America on November 23, 2004. World of Warcraft will launch simultaneously in Australia and New Zealand, and is planned for release in Korea, Europe, and other countries throughout Asia shortly following. With a monthly subscription, players in these regions will soon be able to experience the epic adventure of the Warcraft series in an immersive and continually evolving online environment.

In World of Warcraft, players assume the roles of legendary heroes and interact with thousands of other players online as they explore and adventure across a vast world. Whether journeying together or questing on their own, players will engage in heroic battles, develop friendships, forge alliances, and compete with enemies for power and glory. The game features customizable character classes with thousands of weapons, spells, and abilities. With an innovative, easy-to-use interface, an action-packed combat system, and thousands of quests that build an immersive storyline, World of Warcraft offers a MMORPG that will appeal to both veteran and casual players alike.

"World of Warcraft has been our largest undertaking to date," said Mike Morhaime, president and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment. "When we set out to create a massively multiplayer online game, our goal was to expand the scope of the Warcraft universe by offering an incredibly dynamic game experience. We're extremely proud of the game we've created, and we believe players will be very pleased when they see what we have in store for them."

World of Warcraft will be available for Windows 98/ME/2000/XP and Macintosh formats at a suggested retail price of $49.99 in the U.S., and will include a free one-month subscription to the game. The special collector's edition of World of Warcraft will also be available at release for a suggested retail price of $79.99 and will include the World of Warcraft game on both CD-ROM and DVD, a free one-month subscription, a World of Warcraft behind-the-scenes DVD, an exclusive in-game pet, a cloth map of the game world, a soundtrack CD, an Art of the World of Warcraft coffee table book, and a commemorative game manual signed by the development team.

After the initial free one-month subscription ends, players of World of Warcraft will be able to continue playing under one of three different subscription plans. The month-to-month subscription plan costs $14.99 per month, the three-month plan costs $13.99 per month, and the six-month plan costs $12.99 per month. World of Warcraft subscription fees can be paid by major credit card, PayPal, and pre-paid game cards, which will be available in stores where World of Warcraft is sold. World of Warcraft has received a Teen rating from the ESRB.

So, EQ2 will have a 2 week jump on WOW. I wonder how this will end up after the 4th quarter as far as sales/subscribers.

If EQ2 is truely as "unfinished" as some are saying, it may lose customers fast. On the other hand people may tire of WOW's "same old, same old".

I for one, will be buying both. My g/f and I have collectors editions pre-orderd for both. ANd that 2 week gap gives us 2 weeks to try EQ2 and see if we like it better than we liked the WOW stress test.

I'm in EQ2 and WoW beta. I don't know where the "unfinished" aspect for EQ2 is coming from. Asside perhaps from optimizing video performance the game is much more along than WoW. WoW still has issues with spawn rates in newbie areas, thats a very very basic problem they shouldn't be having at this point.

Regardless who gets more it's a good time for games. I wish WoW would delay about 3-4 months, add hero, housing and improve spawn/rates and test out talents at the very least but ah well. I've pre-ordered both but will be playing EQ2 myself and give WoW a while to get the basic problems fixed before I play.

Yea, maybe Eq2 is not finished yet, but I don't bother playing a unfinished game when I know that it will be THE game..  I mean Sony want to make aditional feature in the game... but the game itself allready own enough feature to be release. Another fact, when I play mmorpg, I don't play them for like a month, but for years and I see the future in Eq2.

    In two words...

It will worth the squeeze image

$15 a month, give me a break. WoW isn't worth that much. But then again, it won't be surprising to see a bunch of people subscribe to that.

    You kiding!?!?! image

When I said, it worth the squeeze, I was talking about Eq2...

But Think about it, 15$... It's a LOT less then you can pay for your stupid (if you) cigarets per months, or less if you play any video poker... even less for all the beer you can buy in a bar and for what!? ALOT more fun.

When I was kid, I was habble to put like 10bucks in an arcade game.. for what?!? 10minutes...

What is 15$ to get support, update, community...AND A DAMN GOOD GAME!!!!

ya just stop complaining about he monthly fee, sure its a bitch having to pay the greedy bastards (NMO) but my guess is they got good reasons for the price.

WoW will have a open beta dont forget that. there game will be free while you will have to pay for EQ before you can play. Are they scared people will turn away from the game if they get to preview it???? thats my main reasoning behind not buying it.

any way back to what i wanted to say

    finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!imageimageimageimageimageimageimage

    Oops My Bad

always my opion when i talk as this is me and my ideas if you disagree with something i dont want flaming plz. thank you. and Dont question a forum posters spelling you think we got spell check on this thing.

I have yet to witness any issues with spawn rates in newbie areas.- and i've played every single race up to lvl 6 so far. How can anyone say WoW isn't ready yet? It IS ready for retail and there's even a few more patches before retail. I played EQ2 and was not impressed at all. WoW will get my $80 (for collectors edition) and my $15 a month. When it just comes down to it... I was just having more fun playing Wow than I was EQ2 and that's what it's all about, isn't it? fun? It is to me.

Why is there only enough gamers for one game?

EQ2 will have plenty of people that aren't intending to play WoW, mostly EQ players, SWG and others.

WoW is going to generate allot of new gamers, as long as a number of people that are not intending to play EQ2.

There is more than enough people for both games to be very successful. One isn't going to have much of a effect on the other. If one fails, it'll due to problems with that game, not due to the other one existing.

Down time, monthly fees and camping are ideas that will be forgotten, all too soon. If your not playing Guild Wars your playing with something dead.

What did you mother say about playing with dead things?

Not to mention, after about 6 months you'll be able to sell stuff for around 500$ on eBay, but ohwell, I guess I'm dumb to subscribe to this.

So 75$ montly fee + 50$ for the game cost 125$, and I can sell stuff for 500$ witch mean...I could do 375$ in 6 months. Yea not enough for a living.. but heu? wait it's a GAME, and I ENJOY playing it, and I get paid. Witch mean I could get paid 62,50$ per month.. not bad IMO

Yeah I live in the Uk so getting a little later.

Which will mean read the forums of all of you in the US to see what to reckon and then go for that. Been waiting long enough at the moment and played both in beta.

And WOW is the one ::::40::

Did anyone notice the news for this? Its WoW, not EQ2. NO one wants to talk about the worst game ever made ie EQ2. Sad to see so many people comparing EQ2 and WoW. WoW blows it out of the water.

Yea you just contradicted yourself there. Anyway, I am ok with the November 23rd release date. I'm also glad to get more than 1 week to play the open beta. In Lineage 2 we got a whole month for open beta and got to keep our characters into release. Not bad, not bad at all.
