1-I think the swordmaster is a very formidable opponent when it is played correctly. 2-General imbalance, I think, is a perception of players who PUG and get under performing players of intendedly powerful and useful classes.
1- I agree with you, the SM (as some other tanks) just need a small improvement in the tanks skills to be at the same level of the IB tanking, but it is a incredible class.
This is a classic missinterpretation of what a true class game is supposed to be. WAR actually has pulled it off quite nicely, please let me explain. No one class is able to outright DESTROY all classes from the other side. For each class there is basically an equal but opposite on the other side. The problem is that everyone is used to the WOW mentality that there, example hunter should be able to take on a paladin or a mage and have a fighting chance against every class. In reality a Hunter should get eaten alive by a quick mage or a Paladin every time. In a true class version of WOW any undead player should be terrified to see a Paladin comming at them because they should know they are about to die a second time. This is the nature of classes, this is also why so many people have problems with WAR. Teamwork is what WAR is all about, there is no "I" in team, you need your tanks to do just that hold the line while your range takes out that line. Tanks are not to be a DPS class they are a TANKING class, there job is to take as much punishment as they can so the mage behind them can destroy whatever is in front of them. Healers are just that a HEALING class, they have a job to guess what it is, to keep your Tanks up for as long as they can, and save a ranged dps dealer if needed. A team game is what WAR is but everyone wants to be the hero and that is why they complain about this game.
after reading this and realizing how much i miss WAR and that i can get passed that brick wall of a grind it has by enjoying what i enjoy the most which is PvP i am about to reinstall the game and use one of the 7 day trials on my account to give it a second shot thanks mate for opening my eyes hopefully i finaly found a game.
i'm relatively new to the whole mmo scene but i'm loving it. played lotro and TR and war by far is my favorite now because people actually play their classes on here. the warbands mostly wait for the tanks to run into the battlefield objectives and start getting that aggro, rangers start ranging and meleers start doing their thing and healers are healing the tanks. when i'm appart of a WB vs WB it feels pretty even to me. i'm a chaos tank and the only class that really gives me trouble is the white lion (you just cant run away from those guys).
there are a few balance problems i've seen but those will get worked out as more patches come out. but it should never be where a range class can take on a melee class or a tank. or a healer doing the same thing. its been said a few times already but i feel it has to be said again... war is about teamwork, its not about the individual
I disagree with the people who argue players should have a fighting chance in solo play.
This game's focus is RvR, and as soon as you start taking away class specific roles and making everyone a Jack of All Trades, you ruin the group PvP.
Healers should never be able to kill anyone equally skilled/geared, they're job is to SUPPORT.
Tanks shouldn't be able to do a lot of damage compared to DPS classes, however they should be hard as HELL to kill.
Melee DPS Classes should be able to kill anything, but only if they have support.
Range DPS classes should be able to kill anything, as long as they stay away from them.
This is how WAR has done it, and they've done it extremely well.
I've found very few flaws in the classes, WEs are a tad strong, no argument there. But the fact that they can kill anything doesn't ring any alarms in my head.
DPS Classes should be able to kill Tanks, not the other way around. Tanks are there to disable, protect and soak up DPS, not to kill.
As for endgame well.... People need to start doing 6v6 a la DAoC, because that was the true RvR experience. I think the problem here is everyone has the mentality that you have to do Scens/Siege Keeps to increase your renown. And honestly, in comparison to roaming with an organized 6man, they're right.
If Mythic was smart, they would enforce 6v6 gameplay and make it equally beneficial if not more so then taking keeps and BFOs.
Granted, it doesn't make much sense along the lines of story and roleplay or whatever. But that is where the true fun lies.

If WAR had arena's you would see how ridiculous the class designs were in WAR.
It is so much simpler to say "we have group balance" than to introduce arena matches in which everybody would see that class balances and interaction are a form of art these days in "that other game".
A PvP based game without ANY control of damage output, absorbs, interaction of classes within a predefined and controllable setting is "amateurish" at best.
A "wet finger policy" in which all comes down to personal preference and personal moaning.
You may hate Arena's in that other game, but they assure unbalances are at least corrected within WEEKS of publishing a new season or patch. WL were underrepresented in the top, after one patch after 3 weeks that problem was already solved within a month.
In WAR you just have to believe Mythic who speak of "group balance".
yea, group balance ....as in my wet thumb feeling where the wind blows....
First of all, are you following all my posts just so you can argue with me? I'm flattered.
Anyways, WoW and WAR are two completely different games and comparing them is like going "Oranges taste better then Apples" Yea, they're both fruits but some people don't like Apples.
As for "Arenas" no, there arn't any Arenas, thank fucking god for that.
WAR bases "Balance" on groups, not on the individual. And this is why is excels at Group PvP. If you were to match a group of 6 versus a group of 6, a well rounded group of Healers Tanks and DPS vs another is COMPLETELY Balanced.
WoW has 2v2, 3v3 AND 5v5, which are all completely different PvP aspects, how can you balance one without gimping another?
"A PvP based game without ANY control of damage output, absorbs, interaction of classes within a predefined and controllable setting is "amateurish" at best."
Do you even play the game? Obivously not because that comment came straight out of your ass.
Tanks can guard another player, mitigating 50% of the damage they take and onto themselves. Can Prot Warrs/Palas and Feral Druids or Tank DKs do that? No.
The healing classes CAN place shields on players that abosrb damage.
Almost every class can detaunt, reducing the damage they take from a specific or a group of people.
And there are a few other things as well, so clearly you just made yourself look like an idiot with that comment.
interation of classes within a predefined and controllable setting? No, your right. Thats not what RvR is about.
There lies some excitement in roaming , not knowing when your enemy is going to come at you. Its more FUN, and when you do get Jumped and you out play and out skill your opponents, not because you have better GEAR. You feel that much more satisfied with your PvP experience.
