NC killing their game??

shalldoomshalldoom Member UncommonPosts: 106

Just read this on MMosite http://news.mmosite.com/content/2009-02-11/20090211195659486,1.shtml

Will you still buy the game after they add this update?

    UPDATE:

since people keep posting here thinking this is a big issue ill just repost what i mentioned in my thread.

One Poster Ephimero did a claim that the link provided by the original poster in the thread www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/253/view/forums/thread/223149/NC-killing-their-game.html  is bogus.

Ephimero was kind enough to provide a link to a site that translated the aion update www.areyouhellbound.com/forum/f46/translation-test-server-patch-notes-06-02-09-a-780/

this is the important part that proves the mmosite wrong:

    3. When a character takes a rest, they will enter the 'Rest Energy' state and additional experience points will be gained when killing monsters.

    ? What is Rested Energy?

    - 'Rested Energy' state will occur when your character is not logged in or in a server que.

    - Characters with 'Rested Energy' will receive a fixed amount of additional experience points.

    - 'Rested Energy' is applied when hunting monsters or players from the enemy faction.

    - Characters with 'Rested Energy' will received an additional 20-30% experience depending on their level.

    - Characters with 'Rested Energy' will have the 'Rested Energy' icon displaying on the upper right section of the UI(Aion interface style 1).

I would advise the Poster of the other thread to lock it or ask a Mod to do so as it is completely misleading.

seriously people, read the entire thread before posting. dont assume what the Op posted here was true. mmosite has proved themselves useless in terms of doing translations.

There is a law in Korea (that only affects korean's) that limits the ammount of playing time there kids can play video games. This law effects every mmo in there country (wow and aion included). Right now the time limit is 10 hours a day.

Unless you live in korea this law has no bearing on you and your playing time.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

Do some more research next time.

Actually I dont see a problem with this...it would also help  cut down on the gold farmers and leveling bots.

Honestly, I don't care either way... I mean honestly. this could be a good thing, might make people take a step back from solo grinding to enjoy the game rather then just run the treadmill. Go crafting or exploring or whatever.

An even better idea would be to add the fatigue system for solo play and make it so you won't get fatigue if your group with 3-4 or more players ;)

Means you can solo for a couple hours, but after 3-4 your forced to group. Forces the community to get to know each other rather then the what were seeing these days of anti-social MMOs.

Either way, I couldn't care less the game is amazing with or without it.

This will not affect the overseas release of the game i bet this is only for targeted for korea only

NCsoft to add Fatigue System to Aion.
NCsoft is planning to do a massive update to Aion in February in which a fatigue system called Pneuma from Rest (non-official translation) will be added. The fatigue system in Aion is designed to cut the number of hours players spend in front of their computer screens by reducing experience points and item drop rate in order to prevent gamers from getting addicted to Aion. A similar fatigue system has been adopted in Korean WOW.
According to the system, if the gamer plays Aion for more than 3 consecutive hours, his Pneuma from Rest will start to reduce. When it reaches zero, the experience points obtained by the player as well as his item drop rate will reduce 30%, and in addition during PvP his damage to the opponent will reduce as well. But if the player takes a rest for three hours, his Pneuma from Rest will recover 100% and then everything will return to normal.

That's what's required for Chinese Law for MMO's, not sure if Korea is doing that too now. I doubt it will be in for Western Gamers.

  • JadetoothJadetooth Member UncommonPosts: 372

Yeah, i too highly doubt that this will be in the western release.

Yes China is cracking down on all the evil MMO playing going on in their country, going so far as to create gaming clinics for addicted gamers. What they fail to realize is there is no such thing as game or internet addiction, but there ARE such things as chronic depression and poor quality of life in general.

I don't think there is much to worry about this becoming implemented in North America or Europe.

As popular as MMOs (basically just WoW) are, MMOs haven't taken hold of youth society in this side of the world. Until the day you see WoW implementing their system here, you probably won't see it happening to NCsoft titles.

People should be free to die in front of a computer, playing if the want to.

If I want someone to take care of my health, I visit a doctor, not a game company.

It's a great system and should be implemented on all mmos out there. I don't see anything wrong with taking a break after few hours of gaming to go eat, drink, nap, watch tv, do house chores, walk outside for fresh breath of air, etc then come back to your mmo and play again.  It feels much better that way then sitting infront of your monitor 8 hours straight (if not longer).  I a lot of time find myself not wanting to stop playing or leave my monitor knowing I have been playing more than a few hours straight.  So, what's to worry about here?

MMosite fails, this feature is nothing but a rested system like the one in Warhammer, Lineage II or WoW, you get more XP if you are offline. Ask them for a source and you will see how they link you to the patch notes where this system is, they should be sued for being extremely retarded.

I did see the translation for the Rested thing on Hellbound or Aionsource but AS is down atm so I'll have to get back with a link..It is ppossible they're putting in the degrading time though since I know they do a lot of that over there.

I figured the KOR retail would just stick to the 300 time cards they're currently on and maybe the Chinese Open Client would see the degrade system

Wow... milk coming out of Cynthe's nose... that is so uber HAWT!!!

It's almost 2010, and I am just not wiling to tolerate clunky graphics while being told that "gameplay is more important than graphics". That excuse won't wash with me any more. I expect my games to have both good graphics and good gameplay.

No way lmao. I feel bad for the korean WOW players. As I know that some raids in WoW alone take like 3 hours to complete. Not to mention a little socializations, "Orginizing the raid", Getting to raid locations, wiping, or having tough time. It must be hard to get ahead in WoW, because WoW is litteraly 100% bases on the raids which take quite the time to do.

  • GoldenDogGoldenDog Member Posts: 586

uh...  Why don't they just log into a different character for three hours and then return to the first one?

The article says it's character specific and not account.

uhm yea there is a thing called game addiction, and it appears also in western countries, people don't go die in front of their computers because of poor life quality.

this feature though will not help one bit, it's practically a rest system that is in virtually every big mmorpg these days, no one that is in danger of getting addicted will stop playing a game because of a little lower exp, the only way to fight it is by social confrontation from friends and family.

No? People don't get addicted because their life sucks, really? News to me. Though I shoudn't have said game addiction doesn't exist but that it is the same as alcohol addiction. You don't get addicted if your life is A- awesome.

Games and the internet are easy to fall into if everything around you becomes unbearable or you have social pressures that you can't live up to. But it's not the technology that is to fault rather social issues.

I have lived with addiction in various forms my whole life, not one of these addicts had perfect rosy lives, everyone of them had lived through traumas, were badly treated in some form or another. Those are the issues that have to be looked at first. You can't tell someone to put the bottle down or the mouse down because it's soooo bad for them, you have to tackle why they use their crutch and they will lessen their death grip on those addictions themselves.

Even if they would implement it for the EU/US ...I see this as improvement to be honest.

No more no lifers having the superior gear and levels so skill will matter more.

    Eventual bots would be screwed.

and it would be like life>game. how it should be for everyone.

Thank Gawd people like you are no longer the reigning influence of the genre.  Lets force everyone to play my way mentality is not only disturbing, but well on the way to being  sociopathic.  You grouping fanatics crack me up.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

There you go, bumping on 3rd page, this isn't a Korean thing only, Koreans don't have any kind of ruleset to control people's gaming hours, South Korea is a free country with a lot of technology advancements and it's up there with Japan in terms of wealth.

But mmosite.com fails hard, and they didn't even translate the article properly, it's just a rested/vitality system, they do not take XP bonuses away, they give you XP bonuses if you are a casual player who logs in twice a week or something.
