[EDIT] after EQ2 goes live i would have to vote like this though...
1. Lineage 2
2. EQ2
3. EVE Online
the reason i still put Lineage 2 ahead of EQ2, is even though it's not quite as technically beutiful with all the UBER effects and everything, L2 still blows EQ2 away in terms of models and such...
L2's sheer artistic beauty will be hard to match...
-------------------------------- Games Played - Too many to list~ Games Currently Playing - City of Heroes Favorite Game So Far - Lineage 1 ^^ Waiting For - EQ2 and WoW (OB is gonna be hell T_T l33t d3wdz everwhere >_<;;)
I would say EQ2, allthough it's got a bit weird modelling, let's face it... the graphics are great.... (not coming from some EQ2 fanboy, I'm going for WoW)
Don't worry. Being eaten by a crocodile is just like going to sleep. In a giant blender.
Having played Lin2 since the korean beta, having played EQ2 closed beta, having played WoW closed beta, having played Guild Wars closed beta, having played COUNTLESS other MMORPGs, I can safely say the best graphics out there are from nonother than EQ2. I admit, the graphics looked pretty shakey from the trailers (they look very clay-like and not very real), but once you are actually in the game, even the lowest graphics make Lin2's environments squirm. The only game that looks like it will even rival EQ2's graphics is the upcoming "DnD Online."
And just a note to tall of you who are awaiting WoW, if you are a MMO fan who has some experience, you might not like WoW... it's very very basic. A good game for a first-time MMO player, although.

Dark and Light will have the best graphics. Until that comes out, Everquest II will reign supreme in that category. As of now, probably either Guild Wars or Lineage II.
I really like the look and feel of Guild Wars, aesthetically it is very unique. You can tell it has been put together by some very talented artists and programmers. GW player models were stunning!
I wish I could say the same for Everquest 2 but it really lacks a cohesive visual style - It's just a bunch of high resolution photorealistic textures (probably taken from a stock CD from some website) thrown onto some ultra high polygon characters and objects that look and feel cumbersome.
Don't get me wrong, piling on the polygons and increasing the texture size can look really good when done right - - for example Doom 3.
But games like WoW and Guild Wars ooze quality and manage to run on very low spec machines because the programmers and artists utilise every bit of PC power they can harness and are really talented at implementing features like vertex/pixel shaders.
The Guild Wars player models use a much lower polygon count, that rely on raw talent to create, than the EQ2 models but look and feel much much better - also the environment feels consistant. Bottom line is that anyone can make a 3D model with enough training (EQ2) but only a few people can make outstanding models (GW) that harness every trick in the book and make your jaw hit the floor.
EQ2 already looks dated and it relies purely on bandwidth throughput (how much information it can push through the bus such) rather than actual hardware features.
If the question had been, "What is your favourite film?" Most people would probably respond (from past experience) with Starship Troopers, Independance Day or some crap like that.
It proves to me that the average person has no knowledge of what makes a good film, therefore I can only assume the same can be said on other topics such as this one.
Clearly Guild Wars has better graphics, technically and aesthetically, than EQ2 but most folks are unable to comprehend why. Of course there are GW and EQ2 fanboys that will skew discussions for their own benefit, but generally speaking nobody can really explain why EQ2 looks better than GW and vice versa.
Why? Because they do not have an understanding of such things and should therefore not comment.
Guildwars has easily the best looking enviroments ive ever seen in a game. I spent about 3 hours last night just exploring the snowy mountains in the north, and im already max level and all the monsters there are like level 6-9 so there would be no point in me going there, thats how much i like the enviroments.
Then Dark and Light when it gets released, those new Bionatics...
From the games that I have actually played(including EQ2, GW, and WoW)...
1) Everquest 2
2) Lineage 2
3) Guild Wars
From screenshots I've seen, Dark and Light would be #1.. it's environment seems unbeatable. Since I haven't actually played it though, I didn't include it. :P

People obviously have different tastes. If you can't comprehend that, I truly feel sorry for you.
Does everyone like chocolate? Does everyone think britney Spears is hot? Does everyone like the feel of silk? Does every like the sound of Breaking Benjamin?
No, that is why everybody doesn't like EQ2's graphics, and why everyone doesn't like GW's graphics.

Actually, as consumers, every one here is entitled to an opinion and is perfectly within their rights to comment.
Games are not made so that other "industry" people can appreciate it, they are built wih the end-user in mind. It doesn't matter what goes into it, its the look and feel of the end product that counts.
People like the graphics, they spend the money, and the developers are successful. No matter how much work went into the graphics, if the average gamer doesn't like it, that speaks louder than, well, you.
1. I grew up on french/belgium comic books like Lucky Luke and Asterix. I also prefer traditional animation over CGI animated features... So I am right at home with WoW.
2. I agree Guild Wars was visually stuning although I just wish I could've gone and explore all the pretty things far away which turned out to be nothing more than 3-D backdrops.
4. Saga of Rysom was very pretty ... but I didn't get a good chance to look further since I tried the beta before upgrading my computer: 1gig Atlon / 512 ram with a MMX440 is NOT the machine to play this game with !
3. The stills of Everquest II looked really neat ... but the gameplay movies I downloaded were kind of scary. Not so much the world since the resolution wasn't top noch on the downloads, but rather the whole mechanism of the game .. from the character animation to it's moving mechanism. Also the colours seemed pale and sad in some areas...
1. EVE-Online : Best atmosphere I´ve seen in a MMO (and most games for that matter). Extremely dark and realistic, great models/textures and propper use of shaders.
2. WoW : Not using any grounbreaking technology for graphics but it has one of the best style of any game I´ve seen so far. Has fantastic atmosphere and it´s amazing how good and consistent everything looks.
3. Guild wars : Great consistency and models are fantastic (probably the best I´ve seen so far). And great use of colours.
And as for EQ2.. I´m sorry but I just don´t understand what people see about the graphics in that game. sure they have a high detailed models and I´ll hand it down to them that the water is great, but that IMHO has nothing to do with how the game looks as a whole. I find the characters horrid, no (or bad) transition between structures and ground (dirt and such), to much "fairy dust" in the effects, and just because they can use bump mapping is no excuse for using it ALL the time (on everything and with maximum settings). EQ2 IMHO looks like something done by a first year 3d artist that has no artistic skills whatsoever.
EQ2 has the most polygon count, and it is the best graphics, no doubt about it. But its really more of what you like. If you want creativity or realism?

EQ2 hands down. The only reason people say GW has better graphics is because of its HEAVY dependance on the "Bloom" effect. If GW didnt use Bloom it would look like EQlive circa 1999.

Nothing is worse in this life then a critic and one that thinks he knows it all on top of that. But I guess you are to ignorant to even notice that from your high horse.
Unlike you, I will not dislike you or think any less of you because you like MOVIES, like A Room with a View, The Crying Game, or Jeffery
And yes all of those things are called movies, don't fool yourself there buddy and think that people that pretend to be someone else on a flick are elite. These actors, producers, and others aren't curing cancer you know. They are just looking to line thier pockets with your cash there. They make a difference in this world, unlike "the business" elite who live plush livestyles cranking out candy for the masses and for the few elite who think artsy movies are for a select few arrogant pinheads who think they are enlightened and are important in this world.
