I have been reading post after post how AV is just like CCP. There is nothing similar between the launches of EVE and DF.
EVE had a simultanious release in EU and NA with publishers for each.
EVE dropped their NDA almost 6 weeks before release.
EVE had a much more robust and populated beta.
EVE had an open beta.
The list goes on and on. Please do not use EVE as an example for DF. The only things CCP and AV share is their Indi starts and they make MMOs. You can throw everything else out the window. AV will be determined a success or failure only after DF has been released.

CCP also had a publisher and did not do a staged release. They also didn't charge a nominal fee in order for players to be eligible to win a spot on the server once the game goes live.
I've only seen comparisons between AV/CCP because both companies make sandbox, player-loot PvP and complex crafting games.
Who said DF has a complex crafting system? Has anyone seen it yet? I mean anyone who can discuss it frankly?
CCP is the perfect example of how to take a small marketing budget and grow a game by being honest with players.
Darkfall is the perfect example of how to show you are an amateur.
How is giving blue prints and missile tech to Bob then lieing about doing it and finally the Dev's come clean and admit they helped them. Is that being honest with us.
MAGA
The initial title is correct.
EVE released before the WoW-era.
EVE was near bancrupty shortly after release.
EVE is freaking different from anything else. Maybe PotBS is slight close to it, but still far away.
Thing is ... even if Tasos has been making false promises again and again and even if planning isn't Aventurines biggest strength, (to put a nice understatement), I still fail at getting my panties in a knot over a game company and how the developement cycle of their first big project (which isn't even released yet) hasn't exactly gone according to plan. You lads do a better job at that, again and again, hehe.
If Aventurine manages to get this plane flying and keep it up, they might develop into a CCP like company.
My guess is they learned ALOT during the past eight years, the question is ... do you accept that people, and thus, companies, make mistakes and do you give them the opportunity to learn from them?

AV is producing a real PVP environment with real consequences. Darkfall will not have an insurance option or the ability to buy as much ingame coin as you want in order to protect or replace your losses. MMOGs that offer insurance and legitimate RMT are sissy and not real PVP oriented. Darkfall will foster a real PvP environment.
Well, if in Darkfall you would always be fighting in eleborate war charriots which took ages to construct and gather the needed resources, there would be an insurance options as well.
Anyway, if you like DF's ruleset and mechanics, and are a nutter for sandbox and ffa, full loot pvp, the last game you should possibly want to bash is EVE, mate.
p.s. The topic is about a comparison between companies, though.

Invalid.
First off, fly anything larger then a T1 cruiser in PvP and attempt to support yourself with RMT. Watch how fast you waste your money. If you are not established in Eve and do not know how to get your own ISK, youll lose far more then you make. How much is it now - like 35 dollars US for like 500mil isk? That is nothing and will not get you far at all. Established players get that in a day or 2. Your giving RMT too much credit in your comments.
Furthermore, the only reason Eve has insurance is because you have to BUY a ship as your avatar.
You do not have to do the same thing in DF, so your comparison is completely invalid.
In DF you only lose everything on you when you die. You still lose everything on you when you die in Eve.
Since you bring it up... actually you could say Eve is more hardcore with "real consequences" then DF, because once you get to T2 ships you LOSE the majority of the money on insurance. So your losing everything on you and in your inventory PLUS millions to cover your ship. Also, rigs are expenses that are stuck on your ship and going to be destroyed no matter what - another expense that you have if you want your ship to live up to its potential. And yet another example of risk-of-loss that Eve has which DF does not.
With T3 ships you even lose skill points for one of the sub-skills to pilot the T3 ships.
If your going to knock Eve in favor of DF, then you would be better off knocking the combat system. Because making comments with invalid comparisons just make it apparent that you are being ignorant.
You could keep telling yourself that your more hardcore because you plan on going to DF. Just know its not true. Death in DF will never have as much risk as Eve's deaths do, plain and simple.
psssshhh yes it does. people will desecrate your grave.....
oh wait in eve people can sell your corpse as a trophy.
guess my statement is invalid.

Yes, your statement is completely invalid. The "death" of a long term guild in EvE just made a headline on Slashdot. Good luck getting that kind of salute for Darkfall accept perhaps "They actually released" in a few months time. EvE and Darkfall have nothing in common. Even the looting aspects claimed by Darkfall, practiced by EvE have nothing in common. The OP is completely correct though lacking in detail.
Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.
Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside
Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.
I don't understand why you can't compare.
They are both indie developpers, one of them knows how to release a game, the other one doesn't, it's quite obvious.
They both probably had equal access to resources, we've heard of the millions of dollars AV has supposedly dropped on this game.
If you're trying to point out flaws with Aventurine's business plan, then I support that, however if you're trying to say that AV is somehow disadvantaged, I highly disagree.

oh my God, I've been away from Eve for over a year and YOU PEOPLE are still whining about BoB? Sweet Jesus save me, get a LIFE will ya?
The difference between CCP and AV is that CCP waited until after launch to scam their customers (BoD and War Dec nerf).
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"
CS Lewis
Obviously you weren't around when EVE was released.
EVE almost died in the first year due to all the bugs and stuff that didn't work.
lie more carebears!
Actually, EVE was going to be released in europe first, north america second. When the news broke, the americans lost their minds. The whining on the forums was the worst I have seen on mmorpg forums. The behaviour was unbelievable. Quite a few people were not impressed by the EVE closed beta either.
Those EVE boards slammed CCP more than any Darkfall boards slam AV. This game will find its audience just as EVE did. It won't be a runaway commercial success but it won't tank in the way some of you wish.

CCP released a game before eve-online and sold 10k unit on Iceland( remember Iceland have a population under 300k)
DFo is first game for AV

The man speaks the truth. I hate Goons most of all, but I'm also glad to see BoB got theirs in the end. For those that don't know...there is no BoB.
All being equal you be right, but in the MMO world things are not equal. In this enviroment you decribe are you certain there isn't EPLOITS to not lose your stuff when ganked? Also is the the client stable enough to hold off hackers? and if there are hackers can Aventurine handle them? In a REAL PVP ENVIROMENT this will happen bcause people don't want to lose their hard earned stuff. Pipe dream world they have created without properly preparing for those who will abuse their short sighness, we will see if this REAL PVP ENVIROMENT will hold up.
Smarter than the average bear? That is assuming bears are smart.
AV has done other projects if I am not mistaken. I believe it was something for the goverment. Not sure on this one. Could not find anything concrete beside that they attended a expo called defendory international. However if not the same as a game true, but that does not mean the two companies could not be compared. I would not see why not, both have the same goals, both have a differant approuce. By analysing both ways and take the pro's and con's of there methodes you could improve the process.
Yes please lets not compare. Eve is an amazing game, while not for everyone it's extremely polished and has a Developement house that even after five years has kept evolving the game.
While DF isn't even in OB yet and from videos looks like a homebrew HL1 Mod.
Playing: Nothing
Looking forward to: Nothing
I was not part of BoB but I respected them. The Goons were the worst trash I've ever seen. I joined them once as a spy and after a few weeks of bad penis jokes I was about to scream! So I spent quite a few billions on mercs and helped kill them in empire for sport, it was good fun. Ah the stories...What a game!
Sorry to hijack the thread. Just for that I'll try Df and give it a fair shot. There is a lot to these games if people just have the patience to look, and I say that because of all the people that never gave Eve a fair shot.
Regardless of Darkfall, home brewed HL1 mods were some of the best games I have ever played. Zombie Panic, Natural Selection, Hostile Intent. A lot of good times there.
Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.
I love and play Eve. Even though my opinion is that Darkfall will suck like three day sweaty, sticky, gaming all night balls, I don't this thread can hold water until DF actually launches and runs for a year.
Side note: IMO, I think the way CCP runs an MMO is the perfect model for running a game. Just look at it's history for proof.
