Pre-paid pages? I'll tell you right now that that's not how it works in most of your more reputable places. I can tell you that we'll be taking a look at DF as soon as we're able... and it has nothing to do with pre-paid anything.

Gaming magazine -> clearly meant for paperback periodic publication. Actually, there is surprisingly enough information about Darkfall on your website.

To shukky33: I'm more than concerned about DF as well. But the fact that there are no major media pre-reviews doesn't mean a thing.

your right it doesnt mean a thing and it shouldn't bother me, but i have this niggling doubt playing at me and i just pray it's unfounded :) still gonna give them the benefit of the doubt though and give them chance to put it all right!

AV show us what you got now! this has gone on long enough, nows the time to stand up. Heres to the Future and hope i can come along on this ride, if you take it.

I want to root for indie devs. LIke most of the people on these forums I don't want to play WoW. I'm not happy with the WoW like clones that have been released. I was particularly disappointed with WAR. I was hoping it would be the next step forward in RvR, instead it was a big step towards WoW. bleh.

But, I just can't root for Aventurine after Tasos does an interview with MMORPG.com and calls anyone that criticizes his game a troll. At some point you have to say, ok, if you're going to let this jerkwad be your spokesman, you don't deserve to succeed. I don't expect Aventurine to have the knowledge and experience of an AAA development team, but I do expect them to at least put forth the effort to be professional and civil, or to hire people that know how to do that, even if they don't.

I am sure those who are in beta has allot to say..But I believe that Taos has killed his own game. There is to much bad publicity for this game and with Taos lied, it does not help either.I guess you reap what you sow.I for one will not play this game nor will i give money to a pathic liar.I guess taos dont care who toes he steps on.But he forgot the most important thing. We are his pay check..Taos I got two words for you..Your Fired!

Again there is 8 freakin days until release! Are you making a claim that soon equates to by tomorrow? Because anything else described as soon is redundent. The game will RELEASE "soon" if they hold the date let alone drop the NDA.

The truth is that the NDA should have been dropped between 1 - 6 days ago. That would be normal for this industry. So "soon" is pointless at this late juncture. That is the point of this thread and something you apparently do not get.

I agree with you.  I am not trying to defend the blanket of silence.   There have been so many leaks, they would have done themselves a favor by lifting the NDA so that there could be debate about certain issues.  The entire dialogue surrounding the game has been very one -sided because one side has been gagged by them.   I am not saying the game will be curing cancer or anything, you will read my preview here as soon as I am able to post it.   I think both sides will find it very fair.

Was just wondering are the beta servers still up and running.

SOE did this just before start of EQ1 then they shut down all the servers for about a week till release date.

But then of course came there isp fiasco and things were down for 2 more weeks.

I missed the point of your original post then. I think the best thing that could happen to this game would be an NDA lift. It is not nearly as bad as the trolls imply and not nearly as good as the fanbois rave. Personally I think this will be closer to shadowbane (sans the SB.exe errors) then any other MMO out there... in style, content, potential, and company ineptitude. Many may take that as a negative on DF, it is not as I liked SB other then the technical issues.

Unfortunately it seems like AV was the worst thing for DF.

Again I agree with you.   I spent a lot of time reading about people's criticism of the game, as well what people liked.  In the article, I try to give voice to why the fans will like the game, as well as why some of the others may not.     It's probably the longest thing I have written, and there are still a lot of aspects that I just don't get around to because I don't want people to fall asleep reading it.   It should educate a lot of people who do not know as much about the game, as well as give some perspective to some people sitting on the fence trying to decide if Darkfall is the right game for them.

Also with the development time and the fact that this game is every DF fanboy's silver bullet MMO some publication would have mentioned it by now.

Considering the limited release that seems tied to the server capacity I doubt there will be an Open Beta,  since it would just overload the servers and cause a bad Open Beta play experience for a HUGE number of players.

And on to your claim about 2nd wave of invites,  there has been more than a 2nd ,3rd and even 4th wave.  I am hearing from players in large guilds that invites have been coming in every week or so.

Since there is over a week to go before the limited Download only launch I bet we will hear something about specs and ordering information in the next few days,  but if the current Beta testers are guaranteed a slot in Preorders than there may not be alot left for non beta people to play until they have the Full launch later this year.

It honestly sounds like they are working hard to flush out the game and get it patched for the launch and I doubt the NDA will be lifted until the final big patch before launch just like most other MMOs.  Lifting it early would cause a bunch of complaining that the game is being patched too often or that someones favorite ability go nerfed right before release, or that the devs should drop everything they are doing to add in someone favorite content, etc.

I am admittedly a Fanboi and will happily line up to pay $50.00 to Beta the game in limited release instead of waiting for a more complete game in a few months.

That’s funny, other indi games have other avenues for exposure, and they do quite well and use a moderated tone.

Ive read all the beta leaks and such and I usually discard the ones that are purely one sided. Only good things, or only bad things. There are not many in between, however, the ones that are are very well written. Most of them highlight the points everyone knows is wrong/right but everyone is scared to say. Unfortunatley I cannot say here what they are yet, but i'm sure you have read them too.

However the way that AV is dealing with this is more like a retaliation than anything. The way they are dealing with beta testers who post critisism and the way that people are getting banned not even on their site, is just weird behavior. I think everyone here understands it will not be the most amazing game ever made because they are an indy company. However they go about their business very weird.

I believe DF is looking at a release around Eve like numbers, and it's a big concern for Av.

I think that Av. has been trying to minimize exposer, at least that 's the impression I've gotten over the years.

CCP has done a phenomenal job with they're server infastructer; they've been at it a while now.

Who else uses a one world model?  I honestly don't know of a single other game that's doing this.

Av. isn't a big company with years of live experience under thier belts.

There are a lot more people today that know what an MMO is today, a lot more looking for something dif. to play, then when CCP designed Eve, and lag is a much bigger deal in DF.

Eve is the only game that is setting concurrent user records, and DF is in a position to compete; potentially directly out of the gate.

Eve lags with the new skins and everything set to max on my system, it doesn't bother me in Eve, but I couldn't play DF like that.  I imagine that DF will run on a wide range of systems, at least from the videos I've seen.

Pre-buy info is only relevent to me as far as it being available when they tell me about it.  If the game goes live on the 25th and they announce pre-buy's on the 23 I'll be happy with that.  I'll decide the day they give the information if I should or not, and I'll base that on what kind of feed back I get from NA testers about the same time I would guess.  I won't need 3 days to decide if I want to try the game, only a few hands on comments about connection.  If they lift the NDA a day or two prior to release I would have plenty of time to make an informed decision.  It's not a life choice; it won't requre deep, meditative thought.  I'll have made the decision in about the time it takes me to blink, faster even.  I won't need a months worth of horribly written play reviews.

This site just did an interview with the lead dev other day.  That constitutes media coverage to me.  I even got usefull info about the game out of the article.

I think people are getting used to hands on media coverage.  Like the article about DCU.  People expect companies to provide hands on time or video coverage of a game during development, and up to release.

It seems like a lot of people want to be told if a game is good or not; even before they get released.  I don't know, maybe it's a slow down of the economy, or the depening recession that's causes many people to become more aware of thier spending habbits.  Perhaps it's making people cautious of what they've spent thier money on.  It seems as MMO's are the only games available that the expection for each new release is that it be better then the last.

It's like sequal syndrome.  MMO's have no individuality.  Each one is merely a continuation of the last and is never "as good as the previous MMO."  It's not DF, it's UO in 3d with manual targetting.

I just don't understand why people have developed this perception that DF is going to shine in some sort of greatness.   Good or bad.  At every turn these acusations of deception and lies.  Words like vaporware, and scam.  Peoples foolishness or stupidity of faith.  I just don't get or see it.

All I've seen is a little independant company trying to develop a dif. kind of MMO, and being rather rational as far as what they are capable of.  I see Av as a company a little worried that success could be it's undoing.  If the demand is to great thier server cluster may not be able to handle it, and that could be a lot worse for them then missing content.  They may not have the resources to invest millions of dollars of code and hardware into the infastructure immediately at release, and if the game doesn't run stabely enough no amount of content is going to matter.  Games like an FPS shooter, performance is number 1.

I don't understand why the NDA hasn't been lifted yet. I've watched quite a few lengthy beta leak in game footage describing pretty much all that's in the game already.

Now, it's 8 days until release and preorders haven't been set up, let alone any advertisements, previews, write ups, nothing.. Most MMO's usually lift the NDA within 2 weeks of release, which leads me to believe we could be in for another delay announcement within the next couple days, *sigh*

Now, to comment on the guy who rambled about getting banned for coming out with all this negative info,, YOUR DUMB.  A few guildies of mine are in beta, have been for quite some time and the game could be released today, based on their experiences.  That's all I am willing to say, but I know quite a bit. When the NDA is lifted, I'm sure there are many people who will post reviews for skill leveling, crafting, combat, pvp, bugs, and what's being left out at release, etc. IF the game comes out on the 25th, I imagine the NDA should be lifted by tomorrow or thursday. 1 week is cutting it a bit thin, but still doable.

Just be patient another day or two, we've waited this long. :D

This is a P2P title with ZERO information about pricing, specs, or roll out details with a week before release. While I agree they cannot afford to do sprawling 4 page ads, this information would be gobbled up for free by many sites out there.

Trying to justify this total lack of information is just as bad as the OP's rant.

This all lack of information causes one thing -> that lot's of people talk about it on forums. Even a negative advertisment is an advertisment. And this isn't even that negative. This is actually the best thing they can do given the little budget for marketing they have.

To put some details on their website costs NOTHING and takes maybe 1 H.

Those people are completely unprofessional and going to kill their product before the release

So two people say its ready for release and anyone else is lying?   How long have they played in beta 1 month? 3 months? or just a week. I doubt theyve been playing for months. Most people love a game in the first few months. Its keeping them around for 6 months to a year.

I cant wait till the hype for this glorified Quake mod is over.   They even act like a mod team.   If youve ever followed a mod in development this is exacty how they act.

Theres indie and theres amature.  Indie doesnt mean your buisness is unprofessional. But Amature does mean that.
