Darkstar, learn to actually READ. I said IF. I do think Darkfall WILL launch.
But I will give you this...
Darkfall will NOT "succeed", and I'd be shocked if it was still up and running six months after it does launch.

wow....i would lay you any odds for any amount of money that DF will be up and running 6 months after release
guys like you btw will claim darkfall is a failure no matter what the results are...many think 150k active subs would be a huge success for a such a niche game.......others are going to rip the game up if it doesnt hit a mil....
sorry if your games suck and you spend your time trolling here (not aimed directly at zaxtor) but a lot of us are hyped about getting a really fun game that makes us happy...and yes some of us know its fun as hell.

I have some new *cough* info on it, and I'm very negative on the game releasing soon, it needs ATLEAST 1 month of polish b/c right now its an imbalanced mess. But the foundation is there and its great, now the game has to actually been made, there is huge potential for this game, and there are many things the devs did right (releasing in feb will be the biggest mistakes of their careers though), but you guys are just frothing negatively for no reason, with no new info, with nothing but a negative feeling you get when you think of the word "darkfall"... but I'll tell you this... I won't be buying at release, it needs more time to become the game promised back in 01, but by that time MO will have already launched so I might stay there. But the point is, Darkfall is real and has the POTENTIAL to be what they promised in 01.

Not trolling here, but I don't think the game will have 150k subs for a long time, since they're limiting the number of games sold and can't support more than 10k people online at once.

I honestly think 1 or 2 servers with the same subs as EVE is what DF needs to be a huge success given its target market.
However unless i have missed a dev comment, i see nothing that says they will only have 1 server on launch. Please link me if i have missed it...also 1 server = about 30k active subs, even if it can only handle 10k at a time.

I honestly don't know how many subs they'll have, because although they said launch would be limited, they didn't say what the limit would be. They might start of cautious with 15-20k subs. I just don't know yet and will have to wait to see.
With the amount of people wanting in the game, it will most likely be a success, but I think they'll have to be able to react quickly or they'll loose the momentum.

Despite the general ignorant belief that their decision to delay their game over and over means they will patch slow....The devs seem to be on their game with responding to player feedback and patching ridiculously fast. According to the mmorpg.com interview of course

All one needs to do is actually take the 10 minutes it requires to read my OP in this thread, and see that Tasos Flambouras is about as trustworthy as your standard politician.
How people actually have no doubts at all about Darkfall is what amazes me. How could you look over such statements by Tasos and just the history in and of itself and not have serious doubts about this game? Wow, just wow.

Ah but the fans will still talk about others having "Ignorant beliefs" while at the same time quoting a interview with Tasos as being full of cold hard facts.
THIS. Thread is the thread that should and will come back into play when Tasos announces yet another delay in the launch date after just saying that was total rumor just last Friday. - Or this is the thread providing the statements of Tasos telling us all how damn great this game already was last year with several of those statements with links provided in the OP if this game launches and is not even close to being as good as Tasos has said so many times now.

Wanna explain to me how the hell "everyone" is going to be playing Darkfall on the 25th when Tasos himself only said ONE server would initially be open.
And tell me how people are going to play this game when they still don't even have any structure or important information needed listed with less then a week until their proposed launch date.
No price info yet.
No download link, information is available.
No system specs. No minimum required specs. No recommended specs.
No clue given yet as to how they will choose the first settlers of this live launch server, as it's obvious that more people will want to play then there will be room for on one server.
No NDA dropped yet.
- For a game that is supposed to launch in less then a week, there sure the hell is a lot of unknowns. And this, my good rosey glasses wearing friend is not "good news" in any way, shape, or form. This is absurd and totally the opposite of what makes for good business practices.
But there is a reason for all of this, and that will soon be revealed, and I guarantee you that revelation will NOT be everyone happily playing Darkfall on the 25th of this month. It's seriously time you wake up and smell the coffee, or atleast take a good wiff of reality.

First I doubt if the game is available for playing. No proof just gut feelings. You can have your views and I have no way of arguing against any other views, for the simple fact that there is simply no reliable information about this game at all. Fling bullets in the message board are not solid evidence.
Second, if they do not start registration now, they will have a hard time opening the game servers for people to download, setup, install, fix installation issues and start playing in a few days time. They have no printed CDs, 10k users will have to download the game (it won't be a 500KB file), install and so on. Its too late to start registration now, and there is still no news about registration, payment and downloading.
Third, given the history of this developer, my gut faith is that they will not make the deadline. Is this a bad thing? or a good thing? I do not know. It's fast becoming a soap opera. What excuse will the developer come up with, if they need to delay it again. Their creativity in explaining away their situation is sometimes hilarious.

Ehm ok, they open one server, then use the money from the units sold to open another, and another and another.
Since they have a server provider is really just about the money.

is there something contradictory there?
We will get the information before we play the game, if they do indeed launch the 25th they will already have provided the spec info we need, OBVIOUSLY

Yes u already said that, keep punching the same point over and over, it doesnt make u look like a troll at all. Once again, all this needs to happen before launch obviously.

Round 3 of the same. Ok im sure Aventurine apreciates ur attempts at helping them become a better business company. But the fact remains, they dont HAVE to do jacksh***, they dont owe us anything, they are not beholden to any criteria, none of us have given them any money and they are under no obligation to keep any promises.
They are all adults, trying to release a game, and once the game is out we get to choose whether we want to buy it, thats the ONLY power we have.
Is Aventurines attitude detrimental to their own bottom line??
Thats NOT YOUR PROBLEM.

I disagree, if they delay thats fine with me, but it seems now with everything we are hearing that they will actually launch the 25th. Most people in beta seems to agree from what ive seen.

What's amusing to me is that these rabid fanbois of Darkfall are simply disappearing as the days, weeks, and months go by. Last September after they launched those lame videos and said game would definitely launch by the end of 2008.. the fanboys here were so numerous, you couldn't even really count them all. Now, there is really only a small handful left, and all the others have just magically vanished. I'm guessing posters like Darkstar111 and imbant will also disappear as well in the coming days/weeks. Kinda funny, actually.

Yep, I'll bet you are. But I also bet I know where you can be found.
Probably on the Darkfall forums (perhaps with a different user name) screaming for Tasos's head on a platter!
And yep, I will agree that you won't dare show your head around here. lol.

Wont be much off a point thou, If I want to get a hold of any of you trolls by then ill have to post in the Mortal Online forums.
it is obvious that Zaxx guy is a guy that have kept an eye on this game for quite long time...it seems that he really was fond of actually play the game but after so many years of launches that never came he is frustrate and angry... i wish the actuall Game will reward his "lost time" of waiting .
many think 150k active subs would be a huge success for a such a niche game

Standing question for anyone to answer:
Is there anything that has been seen in Beta that would lend support to Aventurine being able to meet their 10k concurrent users goal?
From my sources it would seem that the highest anyone has even suggested currently being in Beta is around 5k. Although a better guess would put it in the 2-3k range.
So what is the largest number of concurrent users they have had online at one time? 1k? Perhaps a bit more? So, even though in Beta they haven't been able to manage getting the servers up to the 10k+ concurrent users... that is just a given for Release?
I for one disagree. I predict we will see drastically reduced maximum concurrent users from the DarkFall Server(s) at launch. My bet would be in the 3k+ range. A very decent amount for a beginning MMO Dev... but a far cry from their goal of 10k+.
If I had to guess that is the number one reason behind the delays going back to December. They have found out the servers can not handle near as many players as they originally intended.
For instance...
Let's say they had 5 server farms lined up and ready to go in Oct./Nov. for Beta testing. They were anticipating that those servers could handle 50k+ concurrent users and 250k+ user accounts.
Sometime during the Beta testing they began to realize that those numbers were just not going to hold up. So, they began down-sizing the numbers the servers could hold and looking for more funding to buy additional servers. Delay number 1 from end of Dec. 2008 to Jan. 22nd, 2009.
Tasos is betting that they will either get funding for more servers or they figure out how to get more users on the existing servers.
Turns out neither one happened...
Delay number 2 from Jan. 22nd to Feb. 25th.
So, now the 25th is fast approaching and they are pretty much in the same boat as they were at the end of December. So now Tasos has to decide if they just want to bite the bullet and Release with what they've got, or try and put it off for another month or two.
Now this is all just my opinion from doing a bit of research and talking to a few people that I trust. I could be way off base and I will be totally amazed at the server tech that Aventurine releases on the 25th.
Just ask yourself a couple questions...
Why haven't they lifted the NDA?
Why haven't they done a server stress test with numbers approaching 10k+?
Anyway... a few more days should be quite revealing one way or the other. Just 6 more days until release.

Darkfall Releases on: February 25th, 2009
Darkfall Recap of everything that has happened the last 3 months: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/213296
"The monsters are tough. I was looking for a challenge, but these things are just too damn smart." -DF Beta Tester
"If people were dismissing it, then they wouldn't be talking about it. The well-meaning gamers root for efforts that try to raise the bar. So who's left? It's so easy being a skeptic." -Tasos
I have a feeling this is vaporware. Do you know how many times it was "supposed" to come out in a month, then they delayed it for another year?
No, please tell us, how many times?
No, please tell us, how many times?

Or the thread that dies out when everyone starts to play the game on the 25th.

Wanna explain to me how the hell "everyone" is going to be playing Darkfall on the 25th when Tasos himself only said ONE server would initially be open.
Ehm ok, they open one server, then use the money from the units sold to open another, and another and another.
Since they have a server provider is really just about the money.
And tell me how people are going to play this game when they still don't even have any structure or important information needed listed with less then a week until their proposed launch date.
is there something contradictory there?

You sound like OSGOOD at the end of "Some like it hot":
OSGOOD: I called Mama -- she was so happy she cried -- she wants you to have her wedding gown -- it's white lace.
JERRY: Osgood -- I can't get married in your mother's dress. She and I -- we' not built the same way.
OSGOOD: We can have it altered.
JERRY: Oh, no you don't! Look, Osgood -- I'm going to level with you. We can't get married at all.
OSGOOD: Why not?
JERRY: Well, to begin with, I'm not a natural blonde.
OSGOOD: It doesn't matter.
JERRY: And I smoke. I smoke all the time.
OSGOOD: I don't care.
JERRY: And I have a terrible past. For three years now, I've been living with a saxophone player.
OSGOOD: I forgive you.
JERRY: And I can never have children.
OSGOOD: We'll adopt some.
JERRY: But you don't understand! (he rips off his wig; in a male voice) I'm a MAN!
OSGOOD: Well -- nobody's perfect.

Chances are very good ill be gone next tuesday.
Dont be sad.

Yep, I'll bet you are. But I also bet I know where you can be found.
Probably on the Darkfall forums (perhaps with a different user name) screaming for Tasos's head on a platter!
And yep, I will agree that you won't dare show your head around here. lol.

Mostly ill be too busy playing Darkfall, but I think ill drop by here and make a few posts.
