Hey I'm just wondering on how many people would go back to the game if they put in a few Pre-NGE servers? There is a poll below please if you view this thread vote. Thanks in Advance

I wouldn't kill anyone over it, but I certianly wouldn't give SOE any money.
I wouldn't give SOE the lint in my pockets for opening up Pre-NGE servers. Their chance to do it was in November 2005 to prevent the total collapse of the-then-healthy player population, but instead, they told us to pi** off.
They could completely reintroduce the Pre-NGE servers, however:
* I doubt you'd see the once vibrant, tight knit player community SWG once had.
* You'd still be doing business with SOE and their brand of "ethics" with their customers.
Very, very hard to bring back any community that's been blasted and scattered by the very same people who should have taken good care of them.
"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." (First Lieutenant Clifton B. Cates, US Marine Corps, Soissons, 19 July 1918)
It's really too late. Besides they do not have the skills to support such a system now. TBH it is in the hands of the duck folks now.

Though i was angry when my entire guild quit after SOE blindsided us with the NGE, i never held a grudge.
Im of the mind if a game is fun ill play, if not ill move on. The NGE crap it didn't stop me from playing EQ2 from release until now, i even still play Vanguard off and on over the last couple of years.
SWG drew us from other games...some from Planetside, some from Anarchy Online, and many from DAoC & EQ2....we were 200+ strong .....and the NGE drove us all away.
We have resided in EVE since the NGE, many of us speak fondly of the pre-CU / pre-NGE days of old. Like senile old men we wax poetic of days long past.
So the answer is YES, I would return to try a pre-NCU server ......... The others ....well ..... most probably wont be comming.
STFU about pre nge swg. good lord its been years, move on!

I am sure he did.....and intentionally came into the vet refuge to contribute his feigned outrage and concern over Pre-NGE discussion. Another who needs to follow his own advice and move on.
A lot of time has passed, but I'd probably give it a go.
I feel like I am tiring of mmo's in general though. Too many recent disappointments. It's getting time to move on maybe, which is a good thing.
Ya know, I was thinking I was over it the other day and had moved on... then I decided to log onto the 'duck' and see how they were progressing.
I won't give a progress report other than to say they look like they're in the home stretch.
What I will say is it dawned on me that yes, in no uncertain terms, Pre-CU is FAR better than the NGE. No rose colored nostalgia glasses here. But the one thing I did notice, was a bit of server lag, and of course, lack of customer support. I couldn't help but wonder how good it would be if it was officially supported and running on newer pro hardware. Then I realised this was SOE I was thinking about and my thought bubble popped.
Would I subscribe to an official SOE run Pre-CU server. Yes.
Would I allow myself to get as attached to the game as I did Pre-CU (and now other MMOs)? No.
I had a chat with some of the Dev team last year about the possibility of bringing up a classic/origins server, it's something that they would be interested in doing but the current live game demands all resources right now and for the foreseeable future.
One thing I think might be a contentious point is which patch level to bring them up at, if any of you have a preference I'd be interested to hear what patch in SWG was your favourite, for example, Pre-CU pre Publish 9, the CU or some other specific time?

That ship has sailed.

Ever since the day Smed said in an interview that there were no plans for a classic SWG server I thought to myself that this was a guy definetly keeping his options open. All that was needed was a combination of a somewhat finished NGE game and a bit of desperation to counter another mass exodus. We'll just have to wait and see what transpires in the next year.
Until then maybe someone would let the Oboard mods know that there mantra of "there will be NO classic servers" be changed to reflect this bit of information. Perhaps they can follow Smed's lead and say there are "no plans" instead.
We still aren't allowed to discuss the concept on the official forums, even threads I make on it get closed.
It's such a contentious issue that they don't encourage debate on it.

I understand that and agree. However the mods lock those posts with the message "There will be NO classic servers". This is obviously in direct contrast to what both Smed and yourself have indicated.

if it were allowed to be discussed then it means it's not much of an issue which means lack of interest and therefore no need to consider bringing it back down the road.
so the day they allow the issue to be freely discussed is the day I'd be certain they would never bring it back.
As far as the moderators are concerned, that's the company line right now and for the forseable future.
It's too late and the engine is too dated for a PRE CU server now. I mean yeh a rollback after the CU or NGE would have been great then but too much time ahs passed and lets not forget Pre CU was broken. So all that would happen is SOE would have to spend another 3 years Fixing Pre CU and adding all the kool content that has been added since the CU and NGE.
It would be a waste of money and time.
The best thing to do is create a new Sci-fi IP and make a SWG clone on a new engine.

Well this is very disconcerting then. What other company lines are they claiming now that can be changed in the future? How about TCG items will not unbalance gameplay? Microtransactions are not coming to EQ/EQ2 servers? The CU is here to stay?
Doesn't the "company line" become a licence to mislead?
I would prolly give it a go. Starting fresh on a fresh server and building a new community would be great.

I want pre-CU back
Station.com : We got your game
Yeah?, Well i want it back!!!
I would play simply because there is nothing else for "me". I'm not going to argue about it.. its a personal point of view.
There is no upcoming game that even has a chance and the ones that would be similar to UO and/or Pre-CU are imho by some underfunded company that... well it should be quite obvious.
Also for "me" no emulator will even be considered. I think anyone who has tried the various emulators all the way back to the first UO emu servers.. knows why on that one.
Obviously other people have their own point of view which will most likely be the opposite of mine.
In reality no.. I don't expect SOE to ever do this even if Lucas Arts would allow it. If they wanted the game to keep running (as both SOE and LEC claim) then it would only make sense.
So it to me is more of a pointless question and I think anyone that really loved the game... already knows all this.
To each their own...to a point. But that not withstanding...
...I'd rather sink a jagged, flaming hot, 20" rusty spike that'd been dipped in weaponized Ebola into my eye-socket slowly than ever have another SOE product on any system I have anything to with. That's effective until the heat-death of the universe.
And even then, I'm reserving the right to sign up for a second eternity.
Yes, I have anger issues. They taste like chocolate bunnies.
Pre CU servers is going to be a TCG loot card.
The one card actually worth something...lol
I agree about the lack of quality of past emulators, but why prejudge future emulators? That makes absolutely no sense. Probability might not be in an swg emu's favor but probability is not a reason to at least consider when one is done.
Illogical I say!
