As of a week ago there were these melee abilities: alternate attack - A toggle that switches you from overhead chop to side slash (or vice versa, I forget which was the default). Overhead chop is used vs mobs or stupid players that don't move in combat. Side swing is used vs players in most cases, and for also causing collateral damage vs your friends. power attack - slightly more damage, uses a ton of stamina (stamina management is the key to success in DF) knockback - sends opponent flying away from you, about 15-20 feet. Hard to use vs moving opponent, and only real use is when you're trying to defend higher ground or avoid melee. sieze - pulls an opponent closer to you. Not sure what the fucking point of this is, or what they were thinking. If someone is in melee range already, why do I need to pull them to me? whirlwind - 360 degree area attack, like the name implies. You pretty much avoid this unless you are only surrounded by enemies, due to friendly fire. If you're surrounded by enemies, you want to just sprint away, because using a whirlwind isn't going to save you.
They may have added something new, been awhile since I looked at the Melee trainer's list. I personally made several attempts to get them to add a snare attack. The idea usually got shot down by the stupid fuck fanboys who are too busy blindly defending the game, or by CS fags who want no cc of any kind. Do I seem pissed? I wasted 6 years waiting for this piece of shit.
PS - I uninstalled it and gave my beta info to my guild leader. Only reason i'm here is to hopefully spread the word so fewer innocent people get conned by Aventurine. The game sucks.
if you want snare go play WOW, you have plenty snare there
besides no one really gives a damn about your gamebreaking ideeas

You either haven't played the beta, you enjoyed the 5 minute chase after every single fucking fight, or you're a CS fag. Which is it?

Ahhh the vocal minority. Maybe if you knew how to aim you wouldnt have to chase someone for 5 minutes! The devs have always said that DF will not be for everyone.......sorry it is not for you. You seem quite angry though!
trying to get people to not play the game is kind of harsh isnt it? i mean that simply an opinion based on what you happen to like in a game i meen you see alot of people praising this game after playing it and posting videos on youtube to show off how good they think the game happens to be.
My aim was fine. I had archery at 38, and I didn't craft arrows.
Doesn't change the fact that having to chase people EVERY FUCKING TIME got a little old.
Personally i like a "sandbox" game to give some real options in character development. If melee can't stand on its own, then you will always have nearly identical hybrid templates in darkfall. Have fun, you seem dim enough to enjoy that kind of thing.

If you had to chase people forever then your aim was obviously NOT fine. Maybe you are reffering to before they fixed pot chugging? Oh and melee can stand on its own champ. Personal attacks dont help your argument!

Can you succeed in Darkfall by training only melee (leaving archery and magic at 1, and never equipping a bow or staff)? No.
Five minutes was an exaggeration. My point is, just about everyone I fought would run when they get below 40-50% hp or low stamina. Some people are damn good at dodging arrows and moron missile, some aren't. The only time I didn't finish someone off was if they ran to a huge group of friends, or to the racial cities. After about the 20th time, I had to ask myself - "is this fun?" While I tolerated it for awhile, I can't see myself enjoying chasing people down every fucking time in the long term.

Sure you can. Is melee only viable solo? No it is not. But in a group it most certaintly is. As for your other complaints they have multiple reasons/solutions.
1.) You are not hitting your target. I am sorry but when someone turns their back on me I jump for joy. Free extra damage shots into the back = a quick death.

Minority? How many people out there are willing to pay $52 + $18/month to chase people?
Darkfall combat is pethetic, the concept is a great idea, but the game currently is nothing more than gang warfare with baseball bats and throwing stones at people. It's not hardcore, it's not remotely dynamic and there is absolutly no group strategy or interplay among the different ROLES.
Cookie-cutter combat is not fun after 2 weeks!
Matter-of-fact, Darkfall is so pethetic that the only people who do enjoy it are large clans that just want to KILL sh!t anyways. Darkfall is a failed MMORPG because it does not provide anything found in traditional MMORPG, namely crafting, harvesting, quests, raid mobs, PvE, etc. So, many will buy this game and realize it is NOT an MMORPG and simply an Online FPS and realized they were lied too.
The half-wits who remain who simple enjoy mindless slaughter won't be enough to sustain the game and Aventurien wil close it's doors.

2.) Bring friends
3.) Get a mount, DUH..
4.)Get a higher skill/better weapon.
Your complaints are quite silly.
You fail to understand my complaint: Everyone will be the same or a very similar hybrid template.
All three of the main forms of attack are neccessary, if you want to be a well rounded pvp'er in Darkfall. Sure...gimping archery and magic to just focus on melee is possible, but only in a group setting. I do run in groups, but not always. Do i want to depend on having friends with me to be viable? Hell no, and anyone who did that would be stupid.
And to answer you:
1) My aim was fine. Some people are very good at dodging. Is this the point? No, but you seem to keep wanting to bring it back. If it makes you feel like you're winning the argument by saying I suck at aiming, fine.
2) Bringing friends is good, yes. Did I always have friends with me? No. Do I want to limit my pvp activity to only when friends will go with me? No.
3) I had a mount. Several of them. In fact, I probably broke the record for number of mounts that disappeared when the server crashed.
4) I used .65 and .70 bows almost exclusively. When I stopped playing, archery was at 38, and lesser magic was at 54.
You attempting to point out that the only problem was my lack of skill tells me that either: 1) you're such a huge fan of the game, and think Aventurine can do no wrong that my criticism of the game offends you, 2) you enjoy playing out the same scenario with every single opponent, every single time, and you don't understand how others cannot enjoy it also, or 3) gameplay with a large variety of tactical choices and character templates doesn't interest you - you enjoy simple games.

I've been in beta for quite some time and have to agree with what you said. I kept playing, telling myself 'this game will get better via patches and updates,' but it won't. The core mechanics are boring. That cannot be fixed. Those who don't play fps's will enjoy it as an alternative, possibly.
I also thought eve was incredibly boring but many people are still strong supporters of that game. I'm convinced that as long as there is some sort of game mechanic that allows control and superiority of other players, in some sense, the game will have subscribers. I understand when they say the game is not for everyone. No game is.

It has to officially open them first *snicker*
Yeah, but it is no laughing matter. People have already been billed the full amount today, yet cannot access the game, because it is DELAYED 1 day!
Another interesting note is that they removed Tasos's name from the web site's notices and replced them with "The Dev Team".. We already know that Darkfall has a little over 50k people wanting to buy this game, how can you botch a release and billing of so few people?
Hell, even Dark & Light managed to sell the inital 9k pre-orders in less than 1 minute on Thanksgiving day! And then another 20k people the following week in less than 2 minutes... many of which asked for a refund!
My aim was fine. I had archery at 38, and I didn't craft arrows. Doesn't change the fact that having to chase people EVERY FUCKING TIME got a little old. Some sort of chain styles that gave you at the end of the sequence a very short stun, etc would be fine. I can however understand thier desire to NOT have CC a la DAOC, WOW ... WAR (ugh, mythic didnt learn shit from DAOC). I understand there are additional effects further up in the skill trees but if any constitute a CC effect ive no idea.
BTW my main in WOW was a gnomie rogue and im sure I molded a number of peoples opinions on CC givin I could stun lock and kill just about anyone. Stun lock for the duration did by the way take timing and skill. Actually when I was mace specced it was easy lol.
Oh and my main in DAOC was a assassian, I played a Koboi Shadowblade, so picking up rogue in WOW was natural progression, although I did really really enjoy owning rogues with my Orc shammy as well in WOW.

Personally i like a "sandbox" game to give some real options in character development. If melee can't stand on its own, then you will always have nearly identical hybrid templates in darkfall. Have fun, you seem dim enough to enjoy that kind of thing.
Yeah I played a few different rogues in WoW, loved that stunlock lol. While i didn't like the soft pvp and lack of any real death penalty in WoW, I did love the character diversity and balancing.

You either haven't played the beta, you enjoyed the 5 minute chase after every single fucking fight, or you're a CS fag. Which is it?
Wow three pages before the flamefest began.
Nice!
Anyone from beta know the best race for solo killing?

Ahhh the vocal minority. Maybe if you knew how to aim you wouldnt have to chase someone for 5 minutes! The devs have always said that DF will not be for everyone.......sorry it is not for you. You seem quite angry though!
trying to get people to not play the game is kind of harsh isnt it? i mean that simply an opinion based on what you happen to like in a game i meen you see alot of people praising this game after playing it and posting videos on youtube to show off how good they think the game happens to be.

It's not so much your opinions that make you suck it's your cocky dick in mouth way of saying it.

2.) Bring friends
3.) Get a mount, DUH..
4.)Get a higher skill/better weapon.
Your complaints are quite silly.

No game is.
