Well, personally I'm expecting WoW to be better. But having low expectations of EQ 2 might prove useful. If i'm not expecting to enjoy something, any fun at all is a pleasant suprise.

WoW is very good but has one downside...its popularity. 40 servers are now up and most are under heavy load. 200K stress tester keys+ approx 300K+ OB keys were issued, maybe more. But it got so popular that they had to shut down the beta because it looks like they may have run out of 100% tested and operational servers to handle the overall load. I would say about 1/4 of the keys issued for OB went to the same person. WoW is a wonderful game but I really hope Blizzard has the infrastructure setup to handle the rush. Everything was peachy until OB started and you could see from the web site going down, fileplanet going down, and now many of their servers are under heavy stress (PS the increased lag is from them running diagonistics while server is up, so yes it makes it a lot worse while they try to find a "fix"). Hopefully Blizz can finalize server population amounts and balance it vs the amount of boxes they are going to ship...and I BET there will be shortages for this game come release for non preorders.

Just another reason why I dont listen to a damn thing people say about EQ, most of them are a bunch of Bumbling brainwashed numnuts who dont make any freaking sense....
Why in the hell if EQ2 is your "Precious" would you continue to play WOW To see if it holds your interest (as YOU put it).. This makes absolutly no sense since your "Precious" as you call it has been out since Monday and you posted this today. Maybe your "Precious" as you cal it is a boring grind of a chat line or maybe your here to just flame WOW.. Either way you the typical EQ2 fanboi, spouting nonsense at one end and crap at the other.
holy crap...
what a load of BS this is...
i like the part when you call him a "typical fanboi" when you yourself are obviously a fanboi too (and a bigger one at that)...
i thought his post made perfect sense... he sounded honest and made perfectly respectable points... you however go on a lame ass rant just because he doesnt love the game as much as you...
jeez... open your freakin mind and realise that not everybody thinks the exact same way and loves the exact same things you do...
people should be able to make honest oppinions without having raving immature WoW fanboi's jumping down their throats...
-------------------------------- Games Played - Too many to list~ Games Currently Playing - City of Heroes, and WoW Open Beta. Favorite Game So Far - Lineage 1 ^^
Firstly, it is NOT an open beta. Blizzard is doing a terrible, terrible, terrible job at showing off their baby. . .their product is leaving even me with a sense of disgust.
If only they manage server loads and performance better, this feeling can go away.
But anyone giving an opinion about a game after a couple days of playing is a clown playing to an audience of morons for those that listen.
WoW is my choice if they manage their server loads and performance better.
As a comparison with EQ2, I have been following both and have been fortunate enough to be in the beta of both.
WoW is a very nice improvement over it's predecessors and seems to do everything a little bit bit better. . .so even a little bit better is a better investment for my dollar.
=Graphics – WoW because the graphics are clean, simple, not overly complex, they render wonderfully and don’t require a huge investment in processing or memory which allows for smoother game-play. Anyone choosing very high-end graphics is making the wrong decisions about why one game should be preferred over another. I think that 70% of the EQII community will not be able to take advantage of anything more than the lowest graphics setting, and at that level the graphics detail are not pleasant at all…very grainy and unpolished – not to mention that the claymation style graphics don’t appeal to me.
=Immersion – WoW because the storyline and quests lead to rewarding outcomes and can be intertwined with other stories and quests. In addition, PvP has purpose and the game-play is designed with PvE and PvP in mind, though it should carry more weight in terms of forcing people into player interactivity, but the direction is great. EQ have never been design with breadth and depth of balanced PvE and anything relating to meaningful role or game-play immersive PvP. EQ1 and 2 are just not, absolutely not PvP friendly games. . .it is an abysmal afterthought with EQ1 and EQ2. The WoW PvP incorporation enhances the short-term and long-term game experience. . .it adds a great sense of suspense and unexpectedness that is dynamic, rather than linear as you’ll find with the EQ PvE model of game-play. I don’t think there is an end-game with WoW, it is “open-ended” which means there is more to do and accomplish as you progress through the story, quests, etc.
=Quests – WoW allows for quest accomplishment with a nice blend of difficulty, ease of use, types, reward, adventuring, exploration and game-play immersion and story telling. Both games will have many npc’s that when engaged provide different quests, but seems like WoW makes the process less labor and downtime intensive minimizing the amount of time spent in-game searching over a very long period of time for a particular npc, site, location, etc. WoW is more questing friendly, not too simple by any means, just less labor intensive and a better use of my game-play with less aimlessly running around time. EQII gives the impression and I’d be concerned that it would be a much more laborious and confusing questing system with little to no descriptiveness of how you should accomplish your task, where the task needs to be accomplished, leading to too much wasted in-game time yelling for help and traveling in a completely different direction than that which should be taken. Though If your interested in quantity over quality, then EQII may be the choice. But WoW seems to have the better balance of quantity and quality.
=Environment – WoW seems to be a much less crowded and adventuring friendly environment that invites players to explore without feeling like a rat caught in a maze. EQII seems to be very claustrophobic. . .the cities, and wilderness environments seem very confining and because of that, not very fun to get around in or explore.
=General game-play: WoW has great game-play range for both harder-core and casual players. WoW seems like down-time between encounters is minimized by not having to spend a quarter of your game-play time resting to regenerate stamina or mana or fear of getting continuously pinned in by non-escapable gauntlet of mobs. The WoW adventuring fear factor is there, but it is manageable. With EQII, I have gotten the impression that you’d need an army of players to help keep you safe from the mobs in order to make it to the simplest destination safely.
With WoW, seems like though all mmorpgs have a healthy degree of mob bashing in order to advance, the WoW game-play environment and style of game-play will probably take much more of the sting out of the tread-millish feeling with their perceived more friendly questing system and less down-time game-play style. If you want to stick with the tedious game-play that EQ is known for, then WoW is not for you.
Recovering after getting killed by a mob or another player is very friendly. .you port to a grave-yard and have the option of ressing on the spot for a minor experience hit (which can be gotten back) or running for your corpse without a minor experience hit. . .in both situations, gear is not lost. That fact contributes greatly to the replayability of WoW.
I got to be honest.. it took me longer to download it than to erase it from my computer. I was REALLY hoping for a chance to play this game since I am trying to decide between GW, EQ2 and WOW. The cinematic was AMAZING everything looked so good and then... boom the game.
The graphics are pretty and clean, but they just dont appeal to me. I can live with that but what I couldnt live with was the "go there and kill this many creatures quests" and specially not the messenger ones.. I just dont consider them fun at all.. After playing Guild Wars the combat just seemed too slow and gear dependant for me.
I got my hunter char to level 12.. and after noticing it was just more and more of the same, logged out and uninstalled everything. PLUS the lagg is f*king crazy !!!!!! Come on Blizzard u got money to give more bandwith... my char would be picking loot for 2 mins..
I guess this one is ruled out from my list.. andI am almost sure that EQ2 will be too.. I think GW got me used to something the other MMO's wont offer. FUN and SKILL based combat.
I'm pretty much disappointed. I was very much looking forward to playing this game and have been trying to get into every beta/stress test/whatever there was to get that chance. But so far I am very bored with this game. It kinda kills me that Blizzard's whole advertising campaign was all about being anti-EQ. "Remember fun?" and all that stuff about "We won't have you killing rats" or something similar to that.
...yet the first 4 quests I was given was go kill ten boars, go kill ten boars, go kill ten scorpions, go kill 12 defiled humans or something.
So yes, I do remember fun, and it's not this. Killing boars instead of rats is not a change. I need to put more time into the game before I can make any serious judgements, but my first impressions are not very good at all. As of right now I don't see what the big deal is/was.

Absolutely LOVED closed beta. Was more fun than EQ ever was (and I started back in May 99)...
But the open beta is sadly much less of a game than closed was. Mainly due to the lag... hopefully they figure out how to make their servers perform much better in the next two weeks -- while they still have the 'it's beta' excuse... if those goes retail like this, EQ2 is gonna outshine WoW (and that's really really sad)
xept the server lag and problems i think the game rules
some bugs but its the beta still
althou i need to compare it to daoc in the first 1.5 years so nothing seems that good
but still GOOD JOB BLIZZARD
grate graphics, the game is very user friendly, well made combat system that laks in all the mmos xept daoc, nice balance. i just think this might work for me and i have tried about 5-6 mmo's after i quit daoc and non of them were good or even interesting

I keep hearing people talk about lag problems. I've played this game 1 1/2 weeks and the rare times it lags is barely noticeable. It is OB, and there may be some problems with specific servers. I bet almost all servers are close to maxed out. Something that probably won't happen when the game goes retail. It is still in beta folks.
Thus far, I'm really enjoying Open Beta! I've never seen an MMO with such depth and attention to detail as this one. The quests are a bit childish, but I still enjoy them as almost all of the mobs fight in a different manner and you can apply a bit of tactics to how you're going to take them down based upon your knowledge of how they fight and your surroundings- not as much as I'd like, but enough to keep it interesting.
The game itself is GORGEOUS, OMG. Enough said.
As for all this lag that everyone keeps talking about, I'm really not sure what's up with that. I've only been playing for 3 days, but I've yet to experience any insane lag aside for the rare spike. I have CTD'd a few times, which sucks, but overall my gameplay experience has been very positive.
I will be playing WoW as my "kick-back and just enjoy the world and interacting with it game". I will be playing GW as my "I had a crappy day day at work, everyone must suffer" game. I really have a big crush on both and can't wait for either of them to release. Good thing that GW is free to play, so I can afford to play both!!!
I'm looking for some friends that I lost contact with over the years...

Twas the lonelist beta i ever partisapated in,
i tried many toon types on multiple servers trying to find one i truely liked. I would pass by folks say hi and be ignored
i saw horrid behavior in the troll cave over and over from folks stealing others chests, to name calling though in coloful expressions
i saw folks running up to your mob and swinging at it and running off and saying hee hee ha ha
and this was at off peek times when i didn't expect areas to be so crowded
i then tried the hordes side, though the toons themselves were awful to look at i noticed not so many players / people there
Folks more apt to say hi how you doing are you having fun?
i saw what higher looking buffs/ spells looked like and generaly saw more chatting in the inn areas, then on the alliance side
the graphics i loved, the quests i loved but i am not looking to play a singal player game in a mmorpg setting
swg was all about solo group play i will not pay for that again at this point .............
was very glad i had a chance to play so much see so much of the game and get to explore so many types of toons
