I agree, take a look at the Darkfall website if you want to get a good idea of their community, it's pretty frightening stuff in there, threads about why they shouldn't be turning on each other, ppl trying to supress the speedhack threads, even had some guy trying to sell his account and now he has moved onto this website as the thread got locked ofc.
If you thought it was bad here, it's a hundred times worse there.
This is the truth. More detailed then i felt like typing but how I feel. I too in beta thought wow i love this game in the first 2 weeks. It slowly started to fade. After a month the members of a guild I was in, well the ones that got in beta, all decided against the game. 2 reasons why. It became the same thing everyday, and not one of us in our guild has time to watch a city 24/7, when we would have one. A game is meant to be fun not a job. The latter will become one.
Holy hell batman, a negative post that is ACTUALLY CONSTRUCTIVE?
+1 to you man, unfortunately most people won't learn from this.
paid - bought the game and will end up paying a monthly sub (two forms of pay there)
closed - a very few are allowed to pay to play the game, even when sales open again, they're still talking about a very small number (not just mmo sales, but any game sales total)
beta - they're fixing things real fast, lots of patches, issues get reported and are worked on nonstop by devs -- beta
Last time I checked you don't pay for closed beta, seeing as they're still a beta.
Also, last time I checked they're going to be releasing more copies once they get their billing information in check.
And finally, last time I checked Aventurine isn't doing what Blizzard did and let everyone order the game, only for no one to be able to play for over a week.

But I've heard this before, and had to clean up the damned mess when the ragequits began.
I came on the forum to check the game out because I'm looking for something new to try. I've read about it having launch problems and that it hasn’t really lived up to a lot of expectations. Now that in itself has maybe put me off buying (or attempting to buy the game) for the time being but I would have still been interested in playing the game in a month or two. That is until I came across the absolutely fanatical behaviour of several vocal fanbois who seem to have no problem promoting their beloved game using underhand tactics, wether it be making personal vendettas against people who criticise the game or making irrational excuses for problems the game has. Really if you want to help the game take a setup back and think if you trolling is really helping make your game a success. Maybe I will come back in 4 months or so and see if the zealots have gone and try the game then f it is all clear.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out ..................
You cannot critcize fanboys for defending a game which has been attacked from every direction for a couple of years.
Vaporware, scam, bunch of liars, graphics sux, game is not finished, and so on.
Truth is that although DF has few small problems none of the above is actually true, maybe you can say that Aventurine didn't keep all the promises, fair enough, but majority of the bullshit that trolls threw at the game were not justified, and all this stuff has been said to piss off the fanboys (Just check the number of the negative threaeds against the positives, in particular before the NDA was lifted).
So you didn't noticed the hundreds of trolls who make fun and bitch about everything that has to do with the game, even Greece....................those are not annoying?
No the Fanboys are the evil for wanting to defend their game.
Of course there are fanboys who go over the top and troll, but you cannot expect people to take shit and not retaliate.
Don't blame the Fanboys though, for being defensive.
There is only one thing everyone agrees with, the release was complete shit, Fanboys are aware of this as much as the haters, but for the rest DF is what the fanboys wanted and even if they have to wait, it will probably be well worth it.
So even the failed release is not a big issue, after all Aventurine is an indie and it is already an achievment that they made a decent and playable game at release.
Even more established developers failed to do so, therefore I don't believe it is fair to criticise AV more than those devs, because their infrastructure is not able to support many players at the moment.
But you are of course free to do criticize, like the fanboys are free to defend it.
oddly enough... most of the items you're QQing about, are the DIRECT result of incessant trolling postings made by fanbois over the past years, on all forums non-darkfailian.
too bad you don't know the definition of the term vaporware.... one is that the software fails to meet the expectations that have been hyped about it (set by the gaming company, media, or even fanbois), another is that it took a loooong time to hit retail)... so if you have a darkfail that took many years to release, is released in a pay-to-play-limited-access-closed-beta and is far from feature complete -- you have the definition of vaporware filled on several fronts.
an indie company charging mainstream prices for a game = a game that will be held to mainstream standards, NO MATTER how much QQing goes on, BECAUSE they are charging mainstream prices. that's like buying a burger at a steakhouse for $10 and then going to mcdonald's and paying $10 for their normal tiny regular hamburger and then someone griping at you that you can't expect the same quality for a $10 burger at mcdonald's as you can from one at a steakhouse.... so, why isn't mcdonald's only charging $2 for their burger then, if they don't want to be ill-favourably compared to the other burger?
that's the LOGICAL way of thinking. if darkfall only cost say $25 and was only charging $5/month; THEN, you could QQ "they're an indie company"; but they're not, they're charging full price, as compared to other, mainstream games.
it's a hardcore game... so why aren't they hardcore about taking their licks for half-assing things? if you can dish it out, but can't take it... go hide. don't proclaim how hardcore you are and QQ when people go "wtf, what kind of rip off is this". but hey, i guess that's the type of people that are developing this closed beta game, eh?
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Sucks that your "theory" of closed beta, as would figure, has failed.

Well that is a valid concern. and I understand it.
This game is not something you will like.
My guild is the complete opposite. we entered beta with around 20 people. by then end of beta all those 20 people were still playign every day, and we had picked up the remnants of 5 or 6 other guilds and tripled our size by then end of beta.
this game is not for everyone and its not perfect.

this is IMO why they are doing this staged release.
they know its not feasable to open 20 servers when in a month 75% of the people are just going to leave.
IMO its smart how they are doing this, they can gauge interest while filling servers to the point that there are enough people to play with all the time that actualy want to play.

so, it was finally released, a week ago, and everyone that wanted to buy a copy could? closed beta
more copies are available tonight supposedly, and everyone that wants to buy a copy can? closed beta
slowly, more copies are being released? stress testing on the closed beta.
soooo after tonight... how many more copies will be released? will it be enough copies to DISPROVE my closed beta/stress test statements?
cuz... all the people i know that just HAD to buy the game... are in two camps 1 i'll give them my opinion, and because i'm paying, they'll listen to me, and 2 this sucks... and both camps go "don't buy it unless you understand you're paying to play a beta and you're cool with that". and i tend to trust people i've known irl for 15+ years vs random fanbois talking nonsensically.
but infantile arguments and blahblahblahicanthearyou silliness will continue to prevail, right kassy?

Buying DF right now is like taking a holiday in a war zone. Probably not that wise.
I honestly just read and "contribute" to these forums as the whole thing is car crash material. Certainly it a good case study into desperate, double truths and how far people can lie and be pushed.
I fear some big company like SOE is realising the true extent of how passive and uncritical large sections of there market is. We might see some more AV behaviour in the future from others. There is MMO history being made here. Perhaps not the best bit but nether the less... crazy stuff.

unless you take into account they planned on having 10k+ players per server (and supposedly being able to expand server max population in the fashion eve expands), and they're not able to support that many.. therefore as they get X amount of clients stable and working, they expand the sales so they have a larger group to test the new server setup, ensure that it's stable at the number of people, if not, tweak/rework it until it's stable... then release a few more sales and get the server stable with that population, rinse repeat... then try to get more of the features they boasted implemented... then once people reach city sieges, siege engines, war boats, etc, slack off again whilst fixing all these elements.. rinse repeat and slowly your closed beta population grows, hopefully advertised features get implemented, etc etc.
nothing unexpected here.

The fanboys will be the core of the darkfall community and they all seem like nobs. On another note the game obviously wasnt finished and the graphics do suck. I dont care about the fact the graphics suck though that is not what the games focus is. Troll posts are prevalent in all games i dont judge a game by the trolls i judge it by the people who defend it and theyve not painted a nice picture of what to expect in game.

qft.
it's bad enough the mainstream mmos already use free player hours to "beta test" their patches (especially since those beta players are PAYING for the right to beta the new patches, since they're not receiving any free hours/days in return for their time spent working for free for the gaming company), we really don't want to encourage gaming companies to adopt the pay-to-play-beta approach for new releases.
except, that's what people are doing by advocating the support of a full-priced pay-to-play-beta/stress testing of this game.
it's frightening in a pathetic way.

this makes very little sense.
how do you knwo they are not able to support that many?
As far as I know most of the features are implemented.
sieges where fully tested in beta.
and what is wrong with slowly bringin up the population so that they are sure that the servers are stable enough for everyone to have an enjoyable stable experience?
LOL.. fanbois are a very good reason not to buy the game, they are absolutely crazy and they are maybe 85% of the players. Really.. I don't feel like being part of that comunity. And yes I will let the door hit me!
people keep saying this bullshit. yet I have yet to really see these fanatic fanboys you talk about.
All I see are hate filled trolls. everywhere. and one or 2 guys defending the game.
shhhh Common sense doesn't bode well on these forums. If they've ever been in game, they'd realize that the players are quite mature. You don't see "pew pew I pwned you n00b" in any chat, and even racial alliance chat (the most widespread chat channel) is filled with helpful information of people asking questions and getting them answered, of players calling for aid because a non-allianced guild or group is attacking a location, etc.
But again, whatever they tell themselves.
That is a true shame then maybe the fans should conduct themselves in this manner outside the game also. I understand they're passionate about the game but defend and promote in a more respectable manner than lowering to or below the level of trolls. That will make your statement about in game behaviour sound more believable.

you just defined a stress test. which is what games have an open beta for -- to push the limits of server capacity, work out bugs resulting from a lot of people on the server, determine exactly how many people the server can realistically (not theoretically) support.
maybe now you understand what we're saying, since you've just defined that darkfall is being stress tested while a limited number of people are paying to play it.

If you haven't seen the Darkfall fanatics ... I don't really know what to say to you. Maybe you are a fanatic of this game, which is ok with me, just not want to be part of it.
I also think fantatism is very bad for a game because there is zero criticism, and developers chose the fanatics to test the game and create huge hype. Then reality kicks in and the backlash is very negative.

Ok.
so what is so wrong about doing it that way?
and how do you know they are not able to support that many?
Also. Maybe the reason they didn't let all the people in was because there billing servers are poorly designed and could not handle the load, and they have been working on fixing that issue before they open them up again only to crash?
Not saying it isn't what they are doing. but there are alot of elements you are not thinking about.
Havn't read the whole thread (the first few replies were just too painful tbh) but may I suggest being careful with regards to zealot like fanboi posts as many 'haters' have decided that they are just really too funny for life in general. Rather than hating on the game, they are instead, wait for it because you may just pass out with the hillarity of it, they are instead pretending they are fans.
OMG it's just too good. Anyway a few of the most fanatical posts are from haters in some attempt at irony, sarcasm, god knows what?
On the other side, in the interests of equality some of the more vocal fanboi's who didn't get to pre-order have done a 180 and posting their extremist tripe about how the game they loved (2 weeks ago was the second coming) is now personally insulting their every waking moment.
OT: until/if they sort out the hacking however I would give it a wide berth either way.

I have seen alot of criticism. ALOT.
There were alot of people in beta who were not fanatics as well. there were people who had been on the forums for 5+ years that did not get in while guys who joined weeks before beta did.
The beta forums were full of criticism.
I voted in a poll not to release the game when they did.
Someone should make a central post where people can give a description of their personal experiences in the game. Both negative and positive experiences would be insightful for those of us looking on in anticipation/curiosity/suspicion

I can't talk about the beta forums because I didn't have access to them, but you should know that slightly negative reviews with a well thought argument, that have been posted here, were deleted from the official forums. Only mindless positive praising opinions are allowed there. And with these policies, nothing good can come out.
@ the above poster, i just went to the main forums to learn more about the game and i was shocked. 100% positive posts, thats why i made the request that players describe their experiences here for others to read. The official darkfall forums came across as a little big brotherish. I am realy interested in the game but what good are posts from people who only point out the good.

Too bad more copies are becoming available tonight, and every day there after.
Wait till everyone is able to get in and it isn't "rare" anymore. Then wait till a third of the main body realize it just isn't their cup of tea and move on.
Then wait till you hit some inconvenience equal to the folks that preordered and still can't get an active account. It will happen, eventually.
2-3 months from now, we'll see. I hope you are right and it is honeyponds and flittertrees.
But I've heard this before, and had to clean up the damned mess when the ragequits began.
this is IMO why they are doing this staged release.
they know its not feasable to open 20 servers when in a month 75% of the people are just going to leave.
IMO its smart how they are doing this, they can gauge interest while filling servers to the point that there are enough people to play with all the time that actualy want to play.
Too bad more copies are becoming available tonight, and every day there after.
Sucks that your "theory" of closed beta, as would figure, has failed.
You know what sucks? That the only 2 words in your vocabulary are "Fail" and "Suck".
Too bad more copies are becoming available tonight, and every day there after.

so, it was finally released, a week ago, and everyone that wanted to buy a copy could? closed beta
more copies are available tonight supposedly, and everyone that wants to buy a copy can? closed beta
slowly, more copies are being released? stress testing on the closed beta.
soooo after tonight... how many more copies will be released? will it be enough copies to DISPROVE my closed beta/stress test statements?
cuz... all the people i know that just HAD to buy the game... are in two camps 1 i'll give them my opinion, and because i'm paying, they'll listen to me, and 2 this sucks... and both camps go "don't buy it unless you understand you're paying to play a beta and you're cool with that". and i tend to trust people i've known irl for 15+ years vs random fanbois talking nonsensically.
logically speaking, intelligently reasoned -- closed beta + stress test.
but infantile arguments and blahblahblahicanthearyou silliness will continue to prevail, right kassy?

As far as I know most of the features are implemented.
sieges where fully tested in beta.
and what is wrong with slowly bringin up the population so that they are sure that the servers are stable enough for everyone to have an enjoyable stable experience?
people keep saying this bullshit. yet I have yet to really see these fanatic fanboys you talk about.

Some of us fan try to be that way but are then ignored.

you just defined a stress test. which is what games have an open beta for -- to push the limits of server capacity, work out bugs resulting from a lot of people on the server, determine exactly how many people the server can realistically (not theoretically) support.
maybe now you understand what we're saying, since you've just defined that darkfall is being stress tested while a limited number of people are paying to play it.
