I think they just have nothing good to communicate to the community at the moment.
Communicating, whether good or bad, is good. As long as people feel they are in the "know" about the state of the game, it would go a long way for Adventurine.
If anyone here thinks this launch is abnormal, you haven't played many (if any) MMOs. Anarchy Online: 100% terrible launch. DAoC: No itemized mobs for a few months and many couldn't login. SWG: They had to shut down the first day. I don't think I was able to login until Day 3. WWII Online - Yikes. Dark and Light, Horizons, EQ... All very bad. Obviously, it's difficult to pull off a good launch, because it doesn't happen too often. Darkfall's is bad, but I am not surprised, especially with a rookie team leading it.
But, should we just accept that? Shouldn't we expect a game to live up to its promises at launch? Is it the playerbase of these MMO's who are allowing for these "Failed Launches"? Isn't it time we expect more out of the MMO's we are paying for?
I didn't say anyone should accept it in an ultimate sense. I just said it's not abnormal to see horrible launches. The reason? Well, because it's hard to do consistently. If it was easy, this wouldn't even be a discussion.
As far as billing... Aventurine is a rookie company with rookie people. The current situation is no surprise. Inadequate support structure isn't accetable, but again... No experience? No surprise if things are rocky.

the difference is the time era. for some of those games the bad launch wasnt the death blow to the game since there wasnt to many other games to compete with. so people waited and hadnt gone through it time after time, it wasnt like "not again!"
now a days there are so many damns games that if a new game that has any mild interest in the publics eyes it has to go well or the game is crucified instantly.

Umm Besides DAoc and AO to a degree, none of those you can call a success...the topic anyway was is DARKFALL a Failed launch umm YEA, and also if I may..it's amazing how much in just 4-7 years the times have changed..I remember how exciting SWG launch was heh..now we have 100's of MMO's. I want DarkFall to succeed but my gut tells me it wont and success is not a million subs...success is a strong continued fanbase even if its only 100k. Tonight I played some vanguard on the Newbie island, it was fun sorta..nonthing special...and only about I'd guess 100 or so ppl on it? Maybe? But the overall feeling was been there done that.. I miss what MMO's were supposed to be or were heading towards and that is why I was kinda excitted for Darkfall but so be it, if it fails...just another reason why we will have a million more wow wannabees...
UHG. When SWG launched I really thought hey this game is bugged to hell but here is the future...wow, EPIC FAIL BY ME.
Played: Shadowbane, UO, PlanetSide, SWG, EQ 2, City of Heros, AO, AoC, Daoc, WOW, lotro, Eve, GW, Tabula, Pirates of the burning sea (yup), Vanguard, Warhammer, Lineage 2
Out of all those I loved Shadow Bane, SWG (it had its issues but those first few months were great) and AO after about 5 months I was in love) RIP..not since then have I loved a MMO...

It depends on what your definition of success is. Many MMOs are successful simply by still being around. They're still around because they bring in enough revenue to turn a profit. Having less subs than WoW doesn't mean a game isn't successful.
There were many MMOs before SWG. You can Wiki a whole list of MMOs. People always had a choice, but they just didn't play the genre, so most didn't know choices were out there. It's just starting to get big.
I have no idea if DF will survive or not. Never made a statement either way. Just said this launch isn't a new situation. It's happened in many, many MMOs. Some survived. Some didn't.

Just because a game is around doesn't mean it has made money. For example Vanguard will probably never recoup their losses. Same with AoC. They probably will never be successful (in the black) games.
It just means the company loses less keeping the game live.
If they don't fix this down account server today and a fair number of folks make it in then I don't think any reasonable person can claim that this isn't a failed launch at this point.
We are almost a week into it now.
Worst in history?
We won't know until all these folks get in and stress the server in a real way, but I think it is absolutely possible we are witnessing the most epic fail launch in MMORPG history.
Which is a shame, because what I've seen of the game is positive.

Failed game? Not yet. Failed launch? I'm not sure that Darkfall has actually met any requirements to be called a launch, let alone a failed launch.
I think when they released the game for official download and had people pay to enter their world, its "launched". Just my opinion, though.
Well... when I think of an MMO launch I think of a jet catapulting off a carrier deck. Some fly higher, faster. But they all get off the deck.
Then there are games like Darkfall. Darkfall is more like the helicopter shoved off the carrier's deck to make room for refugees fleeing Saigon. Sure, it got off the deck. But it, uh, wasn't really under its own power.
This made me laugh out loud, best analogy ever!

Let's keep this realistic.
This is all happening with just about 5,000 people. That is NOT a lot of players. Certainly not enough to cause all this commotion. Other games in the past have had hundreds of thousands of people subscribling AND logging in the very first day, so problems should be expected.
But with only the "small" number of people allowed access, this launch is not very good.
What will happen if they get 50,000? We were told by Tasos several months ago in an interview he did that the Darkfall server could handle 50,000 users if need be with little to no lag. We'll see.
I wouldn't say the Darkfall launch has failed! It's very similar to the launch of Horizons which was another groundbreaking hardcore! game that is still around serving hundreds of thousands of players to this day...right?

This thread is not talking about the survivability of the game, just the launch. As of right now, its easy to classify this one as a "Fail".

And btw, you have no clue if the server is going to handle a full load yet. It is only a lucky vanguard in there right now.

But with only the "small" number of people allowed access, this launch is not very good.
What will happen if they get 50,000? We were told by Tasos several months ago in an interview he did that the Darkfall server could handle 50,000 users if need be with little to no lag. We'll see.
he said 10k at same time
This thread is not talking about the survivability of the game, just the launch. As of right now, its easy to classify this one as a "Fail".
i'll consider it a failed launch if after a week they are still having server, client, billing issues.
oh wait......

Quit making me spit soda out of my nose. It isn't nice.
The title is failed launch.
And btw, you have no clue if the server is going to handle a full load yet. It is only a lucky vanguard in there right now.
Wait till 10x that number hits it.
LMAO darkfall server has had at least 3-4k on at once

rofl sorry to burst your bubble but Ive been playing the game for days with no downtime. wake up , it has launched.
only billing issues really server and client is fine
only billing issues really server and client is fine
as much as you guys hate to admit it, billing is a HUGE part of the gameplay, without billing, there is no game.
So the sync issues, and exploits were all "fine".
