Usually when a game releases it is shot to at least number 5 or higher on the MMORPG.com top 10 list. Hell usually it is in the number one spot for at least a few days.
So what happened with Darkfall? It has a user rating of 6.8? Seems a little low for all the hollabolu, as usual the fans say it is the best game to ever have been made but somehow I can't believe every thing is as hunky dorey as they think it is.
Just plain old doesn't look like there is much interest in this game. We know all the fans are giving it 10s and the trolls are giving it 1s but usually the fans win out for a few days anyway.
Owell just saying I can't believe it isn't in the list is all.

Because you can't stop people that hate the game (seems quite a lot for one reason or another) voting 0.
Not enough people can experience it to make comment or vote - including me.
Unfortunately that doesn't stop people voting. Game experience or not.
When has that stopped people from voting before?
The limited launch is likely the biggest factor. If only a small percentage of people can currently play, only a small percentage of people will vote for it.
Until more people get in game, the voting is more a reflection on the state of the account management, and not the game itself. I would wait a while till they ramp up more servers and get more in game, that will make a big difference.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.
Just like you can't stop fanbois, even those like the above poster who hasn't been in, voting 10...
And considering how generous to crappy games this, and to be fair MOST, game review websites are, 6.8 is saying a LOT more than "6.8" tells you...
Of all that is written, I love only what a person has written with his own blood. -Nietzsche
When has that stopped people from voting before?
It does explain it.
Normally, only the people who are enjoying the game and are still in the honeymoon period will vote a 10.
Since this number of people is so low for Darkfall, you will now get a lot more hate votes.
Normally in a recently released game, the love votes outnumber the hate votes. For Darkfall this is not the case, only because so few people can enjoy it (yet).
Why would it surprise you? The rankings on the site are trash. Mainly because of people who abuse the voting. I'd much rather them just do away with player ratings what so ever. Not saying that because Darkfall should be in the top 10 , I have no idea ...I'm not playing.
That being said however, I do like to read what people say who have played the game. Whether it be good or bad. I just find too many people who havent even played a game use the ratings and skew the ratings on this site. But I think most of us already know that.
Just like you can't stop fanbois, even those like the above poster who hasn't been in, voting 10...
Yep. Although going by the current score you can bet more people have voted 0 rather than 10 huh.
The rating system on this site is a complete joke, and has been this way since long before Darkfall was around. People vote emotionally over game delays and such without ever even playing the game, kind of like these forums.
Despite the rating system, the popularity in traffic is undeniable and unfakable. Darkfall has had considerably more interest lately than any other MMo listed on this site. For a game that supposedly nobody wants to play according to some, it is hard to deny there is a lot of interest in the game.

Its a valid observation about the rankings, I just dont know if it can mean anything yet. Most games release with enough servers to hold everyone interested, darkfall hasn't. That makes things a lot different.
I'm wondering myself what the situation was like with EVE, since that game also had a different kind of release where it ramped up slowly in popularity over time. Can anyone that was watching the rankings during its release comment on that? (I'm curious)
Personally I think the standings and the comparitevely few players in gameonly suggests how many people tend to vote negatively on a game without having played it. Which says a great deal more negatively about the people at mmorpg.com than the game itself. But obviously it will be very interesting to see if the trend continues or changes once people get in game.

Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.
that and the fact the official forums are still going up in members at the rate of 5K per week, and 1500-2500+ viewers on the forum at any one time.
that's more than the number of people online for the WHOLE of mmorpg.com.
there is undeniably a LOT of interest in DF, and it's all grassroots. no marketing campaigns, no ads, no big conference spashes.
This is one thing that annoys me the most.. The support of an incompetent company that obviously does not know what they are doing. Since the start they have been clueless and have been making very childish mistakes and yet we support them. Is this the reason why we have sooo many failed launches and poor games? I think it is... The hype for DF should not exist. The interest for Df should not exist, entirely on the fact that AV is a newb company and has no clue what they are doing.
I am sorry this is blind truth and anyone who denies this is just being silly. You can't honestly sit there and tell me they are running this thing great. That the state of the game is good enough for the average joe to fork over money. The kind of stuff I am seeing and hearing about is that they need to go back to closed beta or start getting some work done.
I am not a DF troll! I am just a gamer who thinks it is stupid that we support companies that launch horrid games in their current state. We deserve better.
Usualy the people having fun dont give a doody and pretty much dont bother to say anything, and anyone who bitches moans and cries about everything that isnt going their way you hear the most of. same in society
Also remember that their own forums were down all through the launch process, and this place took on the mantle of 'official forum' for a few days, which did no harm to those page hit numbers.
Why id interest not translating into good ratings?
Twofold, plenty are probably upset over the whole pre order issues, and rating it low due to that.
The other is Tasos.
This game was always going to be a dissapointment, simply because no game , and no developer, not Blizzrad, nor Bioware with $150million budgets, could launch anything that came even close to matching the hype an promises he has made, and the fans have repeated ad nauseum around the internet for years.
'Its in a better state than most games already on the market' came years ago, 'Feature Complete' was in the same interview. Given that it doesnt match up to the feature list STILL on the website, and the hapennings over the launch days, its not entirely unsurprising some people may feel a little cheated.
2003 he said it was 'ready for release' , It wasnt, because in truth, many elements of the game still are not.
He brought this on himself, because hes a marketer, not a developer. Hyping things that are not, and never will be in game, is the absolute surest way to annoy customers, and right now, with the official sites feature list, Aventurine are still doing it.
you have a completely valid point, but then, blizzard royally screwed up with WOW at launch as well.
the simple truth is: they are not incompetent, they are just inexperienced at releasing MMOs. just like blizzard was back then, and like every other first time MMO company will be (unless they have bugger-all interest in them).
even the most ardent fanbois foresaw the launch being a clusterfuck, every first-time MMO developer is going to struggle.
even mythic, the genre's most experienced MMO developer, struggled with WAR with server crashes (they still are), and heavy client instability from both segfaults (crashes to desktop) and memory leaks.
accept it, or don't play MMOs at release.
he never said that in 2003. get a quote to prove otherwise.
the software may have been ready for release, but the hardware, and account and billing systems clearly weren't.
note also that "ready for release" in the MMO world is a relative term, and this applies to all MMOs, not just DF.
I won't argue the handling of the game can be a lot better. That being said, the game itself is highly enjoyable to a lot of us who are lucky enough to be playing it. There are those of you who are "hearing", and there are those of us who are lucky enough to be "playing". This game is succeeding in satisfying a group of MMO players who have long wanted to a certain kind of experience, despite what a lot of people say. If you are not in that group at which this game is targeting, then please move on and respect the fact that there are many of us who are happy with it. Trying to convince people who are already playing the game and enjoying it that they shouldn't like it is far more childish.

I am playing and the launch has been great......for me....ymmv
i haven't had any issues either...
in case you haven't worked it out, almost all the negativity comes from people who have never played DF. the amusing thing is, the trolls are the ones keeping DF in the spotlight.
okay okay lets rephrase this... Yes they are inexperienced.. but don't you think they should have learned by now? I don't care if you are a hardcore player as I am one also and right now I can say I will not play darkfall for the simple fact that the game is horrible. I will not go running around chasing some one for miles! I will not explore a land of empytiness. If you enjoy that than good for you! I am sure you have a lot of time and money to waste.
I am wondering what is your guys definition of a hardcore gamer?
Can you tell me that the game is content complete? Can you tell me that the game is full and that battles are easy to come by? Can you tell me that people are not abusing the game already? Can you tell me that AV is doing anything about it at all?
I will wait for the answers...
Edit: I am not going to waste my money just to run around searching for people than have a long battle or a short one... I want to see fast paced battles that are actually easy to come by. Like every 1-10 mins. I will not run around more than 30 mins just to find one person.
if i remember correctly dark and light didn't even make the top20.
you have a completely valid point, but then, blizzard royally screwed up with WOW at launch as well.
People are blowing WoW's launch way out of proportion. WoW had a relatively stable launch on most servers. Some of the more populated servers had problems though. Besides the server problems, the client was fully playable and stable. However, what separates Blizzard from this company is that Blizzard was on the bounce and fixed most of the issues in short order, something that you can't say for this game.
the simple truth is: they are not incompetent, they are just inexperienced at releasing MMOs. just like blizzard was back then, and like every other first time MMO company will be (unless they have bugger-all interest in them).
Here's a novel idea: If you have a start up and have no idea what you're doing, hire someone who does. That's just common sense.
even the most ardent fanbois foresaw the launch being a clusterfuck, every first-time MMO developer is going to struggle.
The most ardent fanbois changed their tune right before launch. Prior to that, the game was feature complete and stable. Anyone who dared to say that the game was not ready and that Aventurine has no idea what they are doing was shouted down as a hater and a troll. Go ahead, look up some posts made by them a little over a month ago.
even mythic, the genre's most experienced MMO developer, struggled with WAR with server crashes (they still are), and heavy client instability from both segfaults (crashes to desktop) and memory leaks.
You're, again, blowing it was out of proportion. I've played WAR since closed beta. The client and the servers during beta were much more stable than what Darkfall is now. The difference is that Mythic had hundreds of thousands of testers in both EU and US versions, while Aventurine has less than 10,000 on "release".
Did some players have problems? Sure. Did some experience server disconnects? Absolutely. Was it as bad as Darkfall's launch? No.
The only thing that compare to Darkfall launch-wise are Anarchy Online and Age of Conan.
accept it, or don't play MMOs at release.
That, unfortunately is a problem. People are so desperate for a new MMO experience that they will continue to pre-order and get burned because they will continue to hype themselves and others about the product.
i haven't had any issues either...

This is so true!!! Let the idiot no lifers cry and complain about the game endlessly. Who cares about the ratings on this web site. Any real gamer with an ounce of a brain knows that this web site is nothing but a cesspool of spoiled gamers and advertisements. Who actually ever comes to this site for in depth reviews and articles? LOL Yeah, I know.....
People come here to trash talk. That's all this web site is good for.

This is not just about DF this is about every gaming company that gives us this crap. We should have learned that we want content complete games by now. That we want smoothier launches. Did we all forget about AoC? This is pathetic.
