Revisting EQ2

Steve_LondonSteve_London Member Posts: 23

Ok so after many years of playing eq1 I have messed about with a few mmorpgs but nothing out there will ever fill the old  eq1, I am thinking of tryinf eq2 ( really hated it at release).

I have a couple of questions. I have used my trial already and think I will just buy the game as I do not want to lose my station name( had it like 10years now hehe) just do not know what will be the cheapest way to get my hands on the game, can I just resubcribe to eq2 even tho I have never bought the game or will I have to buy  the new  all in one The Shadow Odessy game from a  shop ?

any  help would be great

Either way be prepared to buy stuff from the item shop especially experience potions in order to compete with other players. It's a microtransaction game now.

item shop ? real cash money to buy in  game  items ?

You can download the game, and activate your account online by subbing to it.  You wont have anything but the original content (at least this worked when converting a trial account).  Then, if you like it, you can get the all in one download that will bring you up to speed with all xpacks and such.

Also, dont mind the previous poster... you wont need the item shop or any of that crap.  People just like to bash the concept of the microtransactions.  I have been playing eq2 since launch and eq1 before that... no one in my guild (that I know of) even cares about the cash shop.

Instead of EQ2, you might want to try Vanguard instead.  I'm a former EQ player, and to me, VG is more the spritual successor to EQ than EQ2 is.

VG has a 14-day trial, so it won't cost you anything to see if you like it.  If you are in the US, I would suggest creating your character on Seradon, which is the highest pop US server.  Halgar has the highest European pop server.

you do not have to buy anything off the cash shop, stop being such a negative nancy. I leveled and played fine even after cash shop was introduced. I made more xp with rest xp than you could with the potions.

you fail so hard its easy to lvl if you know how the exp potions make no diffrence whatsoever if you dont evne know how to use them properly anyways and its not like theyl give you lvl 80 in 1 day since its just double exp per kill or whatever and apart from xp potions theres no real gear you can buy except for fun stuff in item shop so you fail there aswell and its so funny soon as people hear game shop they think amagad zomg 9999 dps weapon amagad oh noes!!11!!1

The current subscription involves all expansions up to Ruins of Kunark, which means you can either buy that package for 15 dollars, or spend the full price of the game (30 odd dollars) to buy TSO and get everything up to TSO . Frankly if you're just starting up there's no need for TSO since it's mostly end-game content designed for level 80s. So you can level through RoK just fine and when you get to 80 buy TSO.

Ignore the previous poster, he's another troll. No one I know has every bought anything from the station store, and the items sold there are for the most part just cosmetic. There are a few potions but really not worth the money considering how quickly one levels in the game.

There is a deal going on right now for friend referrals, if you'd like to get in on that it'll give you a trial copy and you can explore the game and decide if you like it or not. Drop me an email through the site and I'll get you set up and give you a tour of Norrath and help you get up to date with the most recent game changes. It's changed allot since release for the better and in my opinion one of the best deals when it comes to content for cost.

trial acct is for new members unless you want to own several accounts

    BUT

last summer SOE gave many older existing accounts access to Kunark for free

review the expansions credited to your account at SOE Station

-- you may already have Kunark

1 word for you your are retarded play the game and you would know that the item shop does not make any real difference you can lvl just fine without it.  In no way do you need to buy Items from the shop to compete with other players.

And I would think you would have to buy TSO to play it which in your case is a good deal cause it comes with everything.

also recommend using the Station Launcher

-- its much better for patching than the EQ2 installer

    launcher.station.sony.com/

And you'll need to put on yer troll blinders to ignore the SOE haters who try and bash on the game but don't play it themselves. Anyone who actually plays the game knows how much BS they're spouting.

EQ2 bards do not do any twisting - their songs function more like continual buffs

some songs have a short term duration

did not get time to get to the game shop tonight (just got in from work) I am about to DD the game but seems that as I am an existing customer I would have to buy the game AND THEN pay a months sub does that sound right or am I reading wrong ?

  • NadiaNadia Member UncommonPosts: 11,798

you said you recently tried the trial ?

just subscribe -- no need to buy the anything further

Trial comes with complimentary copy of "all-in-one" kunark when you subscribe

even if you recently didnt do the trial,  may already own Kunark anyhow

TSO expansion is really only for grouping at level 75+ anyhow

No EQ2 isn't anything like the good ole days of classic EQ. Bards in classic EQ were really cool and fun to play.

This is grey area truth. There are a few minor micro transactions but you dont really need them. Leveling in EQ2 is silly fast these days anyway. As far as difficulty goes it fits between WoW and Vanguard.

Wrong, Everquest 2 is primary a cooperative game.

Mentoring is much better than any xp potion and most players are up to mentoring, in PVE and in PVP servers.

Both in PvP and PvE server a lot of players just lock the xp gain to enjoying the game with no rush.

What you said is a pure simple lie.

Only an idiot would spend money buying weak xp potions that cost a lot of money and really give you small benefit.  But if you feel that makes the game more fun have at it.  If you are in a race to level up and feel that you must buy potions to max your leveling speed then I'd say you are playing the wrong game.  EQ2 is a role playing adventure game not a race to level 80..  And if you are trying to compete you might as well give it up, there are lots and lots of players that are already 80 so you loose.

Going from eq1 to eq2 is a bad idea.   EQ2 is nowhere near the same.   The nail in the coffin for me was going from eq1's aa system to EQ2's system.   I hated the fact that my necro "aa" tree's were pure crap.  I hated the fact that all class' aa trees were pure crap.   I also couldnt stand the classes.   The necro wasnt a necro in eq2.   I played right up till Kunark came out and to be fair I only played eq2 for 2 months.

Give Vanguard a try.   It is the new EQ1.   Its beautiful and has great classes.  The bard in VG can write his own songs.  This means he can "compose" his own spells.  Its brilliant.   He can even write the descriptions of these songs for his groupmates to read when they check their buff bar.    Out of all these new MMO's, VG is the one I will always go back too.   That being said I have quit it a few times.

The reason why I quit was the pvp server is unbalanced.   My fault as its a perfect PvE game.   I just cant bring myself to do any more quests.  Although, I got my bard to max on VG by doing all the quests I could..... so...

EQ2 AA system is great if you compare to character development with any other MMO, especially the Necro tree, this is one of the reasons Necro in EQ2 is so popular.

This is a huge exageration, you only combine buffs , you dont exacly write your spells from scratch.
Vanguard has some good and unique classes, but class development in Vanguard still is a bit simple, most of characters are the same, Everquest 2 class development is much, much more detailed, even WoW and AoC classes have a more detailed personal development than Vanguard´s classes.
Everquest 2 has more than 20 x times more content (content that work), it is by far a deeper game and it is without a doubt more polished, but Vanguard has some unique features like some classes, the way the weather works and the huge open map, the major issue is the development of Vanguard is slow and sometimes too amateur if you compare to Everquest 2.
Unfortunally even the character expression and animation in Vanguard still very limited and amateur if you compare with Everquest 2´s motion capture animations, complex facial animations, voice overs etc.

dont go to eq2, its sooooo boring. i just left eq2, i was half way to 77 and it was just the most boring process of my gaming life.  i didnt mind the grind in eq1 cause i got to socialize while we camped a spot.

now its just a quest grind, and almost all of them are solo quests. the game looks great, but its really empty and kinda soulless.
