Dandelions and other weeds sneak into our yards and "ruin" our perfect lawns and gardens. Why? What possible purpose would weeds have? Many weeds are edible, not just by other animals, but by humans too. Dandelions, for example were once commonly used in soups and salads, long before they were considered as weeds. Deer, rabbits, and horses will often prefer dandelions over grass.
Fail. If Darkfall had no weeds, then your horses wouldn't be happy and they'd kick you off.
About 5 guildies gets in every day, so i would think about 500-1000 released every day... but dunno really
Is there more than 1 server yet? Otherwise I find that highly unlikely.
Only one server, Tasos confirmed it that 4 digit number gets in everyday.
I do think it is correct in that Aventurine is selling 1,000 copies a day... the part about them getting in and playing... not so much.
There are still complaints on the Official Boards of people that were charged from the beginning... but have yet to be able to login and play the game. The same holds true for each new "wave" of subscribers.
It is unknown if the percentage of those who have paid, yet not able to login and play is growing or staying about the same. I suppose that if the number is growing we will hear about it soon.
For some reason people seem to take issue with paying for a service that they are not able to use. If their complaints are not answered or taken care of on the official boards... they will spill out onto the rest of the internet with their angst.
Well, disregarding a bit of the communication issues (among other things) I think players want this to be everything that a large or well funded company can offer. They want great graphics, great customer support, great everything.
They are not going into this with the right mind set. Small Indy developer. This is how they want/need/have to/decided to, do it.
And since there are so many people still willing to be a part of this, it just is going to be a wait.
Is this a good thing? Well no, but players need to understand what they are getting into, regardless of the price that is being placed on the service.
It's almost like going to a small indy play production. You aren't going to get to notch sets or the ability to buy tickets online or maybe even a great venue. What you will get when all is said and done is a performance of a piece that you wouldn't find on a professional stage.
There might be rough performances here and there but it will be unique. And it could even be sold out. However, the performance might only be able to run for a limited amount of time so it's first come first served.
actually, the players ARE going about it the right way.
you're paying a triple A mmo price for this game, you should expect a triple A mmo product.
if they want to claim indy... that's fine. being indy does NOT excuse a website that is completely outdated and still states they're in beta and you can sign up for beta! that is called incompetence.
blaming the customers for their incredibly shyte billing/account system? are the customers also responsible for that supposed denial of service (dos) attack not so long ago? again, that is not indy, that is incompetence.
ignore ALL that ... you're paying the same price it would cost you to purchase wow, aoc, lotro, coh, ddo, et cetera... eve online is run by an indy company (ccp). and their game presently costs $20, that's right TWENTY dollars.... you get either a 14 or 21 day trial and then for the price of TWENTY dollars, you get the full game +30 days game time, and that's with a digital download.
what do you get from av, another "indy" company? oh you get to pay what? is it 50 or 60 dollars for the game, and have to put up with the horrid billing and account systems, hoping you don't get fraudulent charges, hoping that it goes thru, playing some sort of lottery to get INTO the game.
oh but they only have one server, you can't expect tons of people in at once, after all they have to keep stress/beta testing and quashing bugs as they arise from the new people joining; because they're an indie company.
you're right again! eve online only has had about 51,000 users on concurrently (at the same time), and is just slowly expanding to take more and more concurrent users. darkfall was predicted to hold at least 10,000 users concurrently initially, and then planned on expanding in the fashion eve does.
HOWEVER, it seems darkfall could only accomodate about 5,000-5,500 initially, deal with all the bugs that came from this incredibly high amount of users (as compared to how many users played before this pay to play beta), and as they stabilize the server, the slowly allow a trickle of players in, so that any bugs will be minor and can be taken care of in the daily maintenance without anyone really noticing.
so, when they charge an indie company's price for the game (eve online $20 for game, 30 days play and either 14 or 21 day trial, so your $20 actually gets you 44-51 days of playtime), they can claim "oh we're just an indie company, we can't handle stuff", just like ccp does... oh wait, ccp doesn't.
must suck to not be a hardcore indie company in this ffa pvp w/full loot world that ccp plays in.
edit: my bad, you can get coh for $20 with the GvE edition, which comes with some extra goodies.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Unfortunately, your are absolutely incorrect..! This company has spent $12 million on this game and is charging $50 to download it and $15/month...
Why? Using the excuse they are small or independent doesn't mean sh!t and is just an excuss...!
Adventurine's lead developer is incompetent. Which is not only clearly illustrated in the game they just released but also in his inability to secure a Publisher, distributer and the mockery of an official release. This product all the way around is just horrible and the only thing keeping this whole thing together is the actual landmass within the game. Argon itself, is the only thing attached to this sinking ship that has any sort of redeeming value.
Who ever designed and built Argon will have a job for life in the MMORPG industry!
Sovrath.. have you played any of the some 20 FREE mmorpg's out there..? All of them are better animations, spell effects, quests, sound, music, user interface, etc... and all of them are from no-name companies...! (IE: independent companies).
Why is everyone lower the bar for Aventurine? Why isn't Tasos being held to the standards of a $12 million production..?
Stop defending piss-poor game developers, let them die and serve as an example to the rest of the industry that people will not put up with this type of scams!

My God, whatever that gentleman just sayd AMEN TO THAT
What AV did with limiting the number of games they sale is the single smartest thing ANY company has ever done in the history of MMO releases. I am not a fan of the game, I haven't even considered buying yet, so save the fanboy comments. Just think what killed most AAA $100mil titiles that failed in the last years. What did everyone accuse Vanguard, AoC, WAR for? Releasing a half finished or outright crap game and trying to sell as many boxes before people realise right? AoC (that i very much like, and play, and was in beta for 6months) : 1million copies by month 2 (or there abouts) then droped to 100k subs or so WAR: same more or less Can anyone ever say this for AV and Darkfall? You people are practically bashing them for not selling you the game. The exact opposite of what happened in all of the other recent big games. I say GG Aventurine for releasing the first SOLD OUT mmo
Don't be surprised here. Vaportrolls (the haters of today were the vaportrolls of yesterday) just want to throw shit at the company.
If my idea to IP Ban those vaportrolls year ago and exclude them from the launch all would have been a lot better..like whats beeing done with hooligans on important soccer matches NOT let them participate and hiunder them even with putting them in jail..something like that would have been nice here too.. so people who love the game don't get disturbed by shitheads..
vaportrolls... vaporware.. versus. people who use words that they do not understand the meaning of.....
but but but but you mean that vaporware CAN be software that is released?
yes. any intelligent person can find a plethora of definitions which fit the term "vaporware" and read and comprehend said definitions.
any moron can pick out a few words from a definition, take them out of context and make it mean whatever they desire.
an infamous example of morons doing this is something we've all heard many a time...
'judge not" except that the verse/passage does NOT end with those TWO words.. an intelligent person would read the entire passage...
For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged [if we judge with an evil heart or dark intent, His judgment of us will reflect it; if we judge nobly and honestly, His judgment of us will reflect that, too], and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you [if we use extremes or exaggerations or other unfair means, our judgment will reflect it]. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye [point out his sins, "minor" in Jesus' example here] and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye [our own sins, even and especially those we will not admit, magnified by our selective blindness]? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' [tell him of his "minor" sins] when all the time there is a plank in your own eye [that there are greater or the same sins in our own lives which we do nothing about or think we are above]? You hypocrite* [pointing out the sins of others while by pretense we think of ourselves as above sin], first take the plank out of your own eye [sincerely ask the Lord for forgiveness and learn and live the Truth and Light by His Word], and then you will see clearly [be in a righteous position] to remove the speck from your brother's eye [to judge and to help him out of his bondage to sin]." At Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan, Jesus was talking to the multitudes gathered there after hearing of His message and of His healings to beseech them to not become like the pharisees and hypocrites who think they are above sin.
the same idiots that can only read two words "judge not" are the same type of idiots that will look thru definitions (plural) of a term (vaporware) and pull out a handful of words (taken out of context) to prove their point. wisdom is truly know of her children, and idiots, well, they're every where.
Falls short of expectations
This category refers particularly to products that may not be inherently flawed or defective, but rather fail to fulfill the high expectations of the consumers who have been subjected to aggressive marketing campaigns and constant hype from either the company itself or the media who reported about it in the period leading to release. Delays on such products have been known to inflate to months and even years, creating often unrealistic expectations of the final version once it eventually reaches store shelves.
The biggest example of this is the computer game Daikatana, which was announced in 1997 but did not ship until 2000. Many who had waited felt the gameplay was disappointing. Ultima IX was released to savage reviews in 1999, due to numerous bugs, unbalanced gameplay and high system requirements.
Lack of focus
By trying to do everything within a single product, the end result may be one that fails to do anything properly at all. By forgetting the initial purpose of a new software and trying to add more and more features, each individual feature gets less production resources invested.
An added risk to this approach is increased software instability, as rapidly growing software can generate increased amounts of unforeseen bugs, glitches, security holes and other problems that can sometimes go unnoticed for weeks and months. These bugs may indeed never get fixed at all, the patches required to address the issues themselves becoming new vaporware items.
Anticompetitive practices
The marketing angle to "releasing" vaporware can be two-fold. On one hand the intention is to create the demand for a feature or product which did not previously exist in the market. On the other, the intent is also to judge the public reaction from the "release" and prepare a concrete marketing plan. For example, if a virtualization software's vaporware causes ripples in Digg but not in industry journals, the executives responsible may feel the need to reposition the product, or even to go back to the drawing board and redesign and reach the target audience. In some cases, vaporware may be the result of a trial balloon which "doesn't fly". Subsequently the project is quietly cancelled, sometimes before any actual development work is done.
In other cases, vaporware may be announced by companies in order to damage the development or marketability of more real products by competitors, sometimes in combination with a campaign of fear, uncertainty and doubt; if customers believe the hype, they may put off purchasing the real product to wait for its vaporous rival to mature.
Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product. The term implies unwarranted optimism, an as yet unannounced abandonment of a project, or sometimes even deception; that is, it may imply that the announcer knows that product development is in too early a stage to support responsible statements about its completion date, feature set, or even feasibility. However, most vaporware would not be considered a hoax since the makers have a genuine intention to create their product, even if it ultimately never materializes. Products with unspecified release dates or long development times that outwardly demonstrate regular, verifiable progress in production are not normally labelled vaporware.

All I got to say is you hit the nail on the head here. The sad part is that if a large scale game like AoC or STO does bad then they get slammed hard by the customers. Yet in the case **because Adven is a indie company** we are spose to cut them some slack? Hell no. They want to charge like the big guys then they better deliever the services of the big guys.

Only when it suits them though.
Once they start to feel slighted by it they start to rally against it.
Darth is the type of person who will beg and plead for IP bans and the such so long as it keeps his game safe and free of any negative opinion that might shatter his perfect little dream world. But if it were to apply to another game that he decided to look at later and while asking questions was labled a troll, IP banned and not able to access the game he would be the one setting up petitions with civil rights groups, crying for a law suit and whining and moaning cause it wasnt fair to 'him'.
As for the topic: Its not that they have sold out of keys, its just AV is actually trying to create artificial demand for the game, the same way other companies list items as "For a limited time only". It makes people think they would be part of a select few who would have the privilage to be apart of something exclusive. Others will see that and want to be a part as well, and having the "Sold Out - more limited copies soon" type sign out creates an artificial hype for the product.
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
You have the choice of playing EVE in its current state or playing Darkfall in its current state.
But of course you do not mention, in what state EVE was released. You found the game, when it was 2-3 years old and now you compare it to newer indie productions. To PotBS (Flying Labs) "FAIL! They choose to band with SOE!" To TCoS (whoever) "FAIL! They made a stupid publishing decision!" To Darkfall... Did anyone of you freaks write "EVE FAILED! It supports multi-accounts!" or something? Fanatics...
I for sure will never play Darkfall, and I am laughing while reading the DF forums since years. But these one-sided opinions... some people live in virtual guilds for too long, on both sides.
For the nice crop plant to grow you have often to clear of the weeds...
There are no words to describe the stupidity of this statement.
Then you just made a stupid thing by using the words you used..

I cannot stop myself... Are you high or just plain retarded? People want to play, everything you said was irrelevant. And guess what? Companies NORMALLY want as many people as possible to play their game so they can do what the point of their company is, to make money. I am not saying it is a scam, but with their business model it sure seems like something isn't adding up.
People want to play- No shit.
Companies normally want as many people as possible to play- No shit.

It did not have NEAR the problems that Darkfall is having so I don't really get your point. Or are you trying to say that since EvE came out years ago and had a pretty stable release that Darkfall should have done at least as good? Also CCP never said their game was better than every game on the market and was ready for release months before it was actually available. Also. Where is it stated that MMO games are exempt from the same scrutiny we put on other games? If a console game had the release that Darkfall has had it would be considered a huge failure. Not to mention all of the missing/broken features, lag, downtime, etc.
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."

missing / broken features ? all the features are in game that should be in game except 4 legged mahirim run.
downtime ? after the first day the game is up and running stable and receive the usual maintenance.
Lag doesn't seem to be a big problem too.

As for the topic: Its not that they have sold out of keys, its just AV is actually trying to create artificial demand for the game...
Read that statement and be enlightened.
No, its called they are probably still using their home based server. Read that statement and be enlightened.
The Reason he was using the EvE comparison is because EvE released in a similar fashion as DFO is. Very limited number of copies being sold, some missing features, and some bugs (not many good job CCP, but same with DFO). If you are going to tear apart one company for their fallings you should tear apart another company. Now, with that said I believe EvE was, and I could be wrong, $40 at launch but they dropped the price once they were able to recoup some of their investment. Now, they are able to support the game with profit by just chargin the monthly.
I have a feeling despite AV's controversial style of account administration, I will still be competing with several thousand would-be players tomorrow in an attempt to buy the game. Good luck to you all. And when the store closes in 10 minutes, we'll meet again in queue the next day, and the next day...
Heck, I have only been following the game for about a year so I'm sure that a few more days or even weeks wont hurt too bad.
You have the choice of playing EVE in its current state or playing Darkfall in its current state. But of course you do not mention, in what state EVE was released. You found the game, when it was 2-3 years old and now you compare it to newer indie productions.
To PotBS (Flying Labs) "FAIL! They choose to band with SOE!"
To TCoS (whoever) "FAIL! They made a stupid publishing decision!"
To Darkfall...
Did anyone of you freaks write "EVE FAILED! It supports multi-accounts!" or something?
Fanatics... I for sure will never play Darkfall, and I am laughing while reading the DF forums since years. But these one-sided opinions... some people live in virtual guilds for too long, on both sides.
i'm sorry, i guess i missed the part where if i buy a new game, that i actually have to travel back in time and play other games in the same condition they were released 4-10 years ago.
*news flash* any game released on today, has to compete with all the other games AS THEY EXIST TODAY, not 5 or 10 years ago.
what does that mean?
the bar has been raised.
if you want to be trashed, release trash.
if you want to compete, release a game that can compete in TODAY's market.
otherwise, why isn't everyone comparing new console games to pong? i mean, come on now, that's what you're advocating.

Yea.... because physically hurting people, causing unrest at a public event, and possibly killing each other is exactly like being justifiably critical of a video game (or more specifically, Tasos).
DarthRaiden, are you insane?
If I'm not mistaken, and I don't think I am, Darth was one of a few people a little while back supporting the idea of censoring anyone who has a negative opinion about anything to do with DF.
I suppose a perfect world for him would be one where only pro-DF posts are ever allowed.
So... that's really not at all out of character for him.
You are correct... he was stumping for complete censorship of anything negative.

Ah... the thought process from hence all great -isms spring from. Who else would you like to segregate in your little perfect world?

Yet in the case **because Adven is a indie company** we are spose to cut them some slack? Hell no. They want to charge like the big guys then they better deliever the services of the big guys.

1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

"There was suppression of speech and all kinds of things between disturbing and fascistic." Raph Koster (parted $OE)

Stay cool guys and gals
i'm sorry, i guess i missed the part where if i buy a new game, that i actually have to travel back in time and play other games in the same condition they were released 4-10 years ago.
*news flash* any game released on today, has to compete with all the other games AS THEY EXIST TODAY, not 5 or 10 years ago.
what does that mean?
the bar has been raised.
if you want to be trashed, release trash.
if you want to compete, release a game that can compete in TODAY's market.
otherwise, why isn't everyone comparing new console games to pong? i mean, come on now, that's what you're advocating.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
