I posted ages ago slating Darkfall and calling vaporware... Well I'll admit I was wrong.
After playing War, Aoc, Wow again all in the same month looking for some form of mmorpg entertainment I decided I might as well try darkfall.
It is without doubt on par with my love for DAoC now and I played DAoC from launch. The 'graphics' while playing are nice... not great like instancefallaoc but its 1000s of people killing each other leveling skills and being ganked in just 'one' instance.
Try DF if you want to play a new MMORPG with PVP. You will love it.
AOC each army is shoved in to an instance and they battle it out. DF a whole huge army can march across ta seamless world all line up on a hill to an enemy city and charge it on mass, or two large armies can march across the map and meet in a valley and charge each other on mass. AOC doesn't have scale or a world that feels connected. It's Age of instances.
It's a bit of a trade-off really... the better the graphics, the more it seems to rely on zones. AoC's graphics are the best i've seen in the games i've played, but the amount of zoning drove me nuts. I've not played Darkfall so can't really comment on what it's like to be in that zone-less world. But the screenshots and videos didn't exactly impress me graphics-wise.
Granted, i had the best gaming experiences back in UO and those graphics are... ehh... "cute"
Well aoc does look better graphically than Darkfall, but Darkfall does still look very nice apart from the running animations and yeah the blood, thats the major graphical flaw.
The real problem with both games is combat is far to simplistic, both compaines should have looked at Severance Blade of Darkness for real insperation on how to do fast action fps style combat, lets hope Mortal Online can achieve this.
This is how the combat in these games should be, an this was made over 10 years ago, yeah ok its not an mmo, but still..
If you absolutly gotta throw your money away go with AOC, Darkfall should not have been released in its present condition and will take alot of love to get even close to playable and support.

That was horrible.
Didn't like AoC. Was the only time I ever regretted buying a game.
Still waiting to play DF. Keep getting pwned by thier stupid release method.
Is the basis of this debate solely revolving around PvP or are we going to include the PvE element of both games?
With regards to the zoning I find that the developers are able to give each zone a more unique feel when you enter and that each map is fairly large, admittedly I would have prefered a seamless world but I don't get hung up on such things as my load times between zones was about 2 secs on my rig.
PvP plain sucked for me in AoC but the PvE aspect more than compensated for that and I have found that the quests have been well made and the storylines have drawn me into the AoC world.
I've not played DF but how does the PvE and quest system compare to AoC?

That is true but your not exactly fighting all over the place, the battles are usually concentrated in particular areas, such as the cities, so even if you do have the whole world to march your army across your usually only going to congregate in small areas to do battle, not the entire world.
I'm not going to say I wouldn't have liked AoC to have a seamless world but I also like to have specific targets to PvP against rather than having to search for my fights and if specific zones are setup to give instant PvP gratification then all the better for me.

Yeah it was horrible, a 10year old game showed how to do things correctly, real time dodging, rolling, combo's, weapon and shield damage, this kind of combat really made you think as a player, when i got AoC i expected this kind of gameplay and from just looking at the youtubes footage of darkfall i can see that all they have is simple button mashing, its a real shame that both games look great but are made for people with the mentality of 10 year olds.
About combat: DFO developers make statment they do like combat in M&B and they will have combat system good as m&b they just simply fail to deliver. Instead of having something like this you posted, or something like in morrowind we have very shitty combat and all of this is multiple times far from what m&b offert and its 1man job + his wife doing graphics.

Lawl. I see what you did there.
DF is twitch, FPS combat.
What you posted is an action game. It had lock on targetting and looked like it might play more like a 3D fighter. Like dynasty warriors meets soulcalibre. Only badly done.
I made this video. I'm glad you guys got to see it. I was just about to post it here today :P
I posted on the DFO forums but it got locked fast. the AoC forum thread is still open tho :P
One reply from official AoC forums was.
Does not bode well for a game when a dev produced fluff fight gets completely blown away by player shot footage of a siege
honestly a 2009 game looking like it could play on my PS1 isn't a good thing. But maby they have more to the game.
The video was not fair as for Darkfall you took devs made video and we all knows those look far better ( always the right zoom and angle, scenario is writen in advance etc.. ) then reality.

It looks like you have over 9000 ways to attack...........
I still dont understand how players cannot like a game just cause you have a 6sec pause for instanceing? lol come on, AoC rocks in everyway, there is soo much to do now its not even funny, heck WoW seemed very very boring and repetitive in its first few years, look how long it took them to come out with an expansion...

I think ppl are just comparing the aspect of PvP, something that Darkfall is solely about, where as AoC has more than 1 element of gameplay, if anything ppl tend to forget that when comparing the 2, if AoC was just a PvP game then perhaps a fair comparison could be made, I would have to say the game closest would have to be EVE.

Is there really only 1 attack animation with a sword?? any combo's? any other skills that add a bit of flavour to the look of combat at all rather than the rather monotonous side slash?
For a next gen MMO I would have expected to see a little more flair when it comes to combat, afterall isn't this game meant to be all about PvP combat.

This has caused me to make a second DFO vs AoC video. Publishing now. will upload and give link when it's done!
This is a biased video made by a Funcom employee. See how he uses the worst Darkfall material (old) and the best Age of Conan he can find? That video is a joke. Also I love the review where he says Age of Conan gets 9/10 for PvP, HAHAHAHAHA..
i can say i 100% do not work for Funcom in any way. I'm just bias :P
Edit: i made that video for Cimmeria server to see some PvP siege action and i just added FC intro and end.

i'm not saying DF is anywhere close to a MEDIOCRE game at the current state, but WORSE THAN AOC, LOL! How could that be POSSIBLE!? think people!

AoC looks good, no question about it.
Darkfall is a completely different game tho, and specific features that I like so I will play that. Graphics and animations Aoc all the way.

I played AOC at launch and liked the game alot, but the massive amount of zoning did sort of turn it off for me.
Darkfall has one seemless world and this makes it so that u never know who is gonna run into ur massvie battle to stir up the odds.
Cant beat that feeling of uncertanty imo.

AoC with no zones or instancing would beat DF
