That is true, We don't even know what is in or out with the NA/EU release.

I do declare; you're no fun!!

And I agree with Locklain in turn. Why do people play games anyway, to have fun or gain bragging rights? I guess it depends who.

As a Darkfall fanboi, I can state that Aion needs more blood and decapitation.

Let's hope none of those ridiculous masks are affordable and easy to get. Anyone remember the smiley faces in Ragnarok Online? Sheesh, was that a travesty.

don't like the fork or most of the others. as toys, props, sure, leave them in the game. have fun in towns or off with your friends or something. but otherwise it's taking away the "real" of the fantasy and the experience many (most?) still play for if you introduce them as weapons and armor to rival ones that actually fit the story and environment.

ok NCsoft... let's say i'm somehow completely in some tiny minority with this opinion. just think about your own storyline. are these items appropriate? if not, why do you even have a storyline if you're just going to destroy it?

the pink crystal sword... sure i could see it. the big shell... yeah why not? could be from a really tough underwater clam. and the bow made of... vines is it? yeah okay.
and that's about it. not entirely positive what the 4th from the left is, though.

i'm not sure what this quote means that i read on other sites, but hopefully it's the good news i think it is: "But according to the latest info released for the Korean version Aion, after the update on the March 4th, players no longer can gather finished weapons, but instead you will get weapon drawing."

as others have said, NA/EU release could be missing some things present in the KR release.
i'll just be crossing my fingers it's going to deliver as the excellent, untarnished concept i have in my mind.

We need to inject some satire and humor in MMOs. Dungeon Runners comes to mind with its satirical item names.
    Keep it up!

I totally agree with you, bro. And, you can never get tired of funny stuff, I think it as is like holloween, and think about the achievement  when you killed a boss with a eating fork. ^o^

Say what? It's not your intellectual property but NCsoft's and they can do whatever they want with it. You can say you hate it or like it but that's as far as your input (or mine) goes.

@ Solareus, I was always jealous of the cute fun things L2 had but couldn't bring myself to play the game. ;D

Real fantasy? what the heck are you talking about. A fantasy setting never follows any real rules. If these things were included in a sci - fi setting which has to follow rules to be determined sci-fi, it will turn the sci-fi game into fantasy.

Because aion is a fantasy setting things like this do not detract it from being what it is. Once again there is no such thing as Real fantasy.

I certainly don't want to be a stick in the mud, but I'm not a fan of those items either. IMO it gives the world a goofy cheap feel, that I don't think most MMO gamers will go for. It's great for special events, but not so appealing as part of the normal game world.

I know there is no standard for a fantasy game, nor should there be. However I do like an immersive and cohesive world to explore and play in. Adding novelty items somehow takes away from that.

What can I say, maybe you guys are just used to "WOW", in that case, don't bother to play any other games, but for those look forward to this game. There are very much to look forward too. bTW, no one forced anyone to use these kind of weapons, it's just a option for those who like unusual kinds of weapons. If you don't like, you don't want others to use it neither? maybe <<selfish>> is not the word.

I like these weapons, as ridiculous as they are, I like it.

I mean think about it, some guy who decides to be a real a-hole ganks you at 2% health, then you find the very same a-hole later and go 1v1 with him, imagine beating him with your carrot sword? Now THAT is real taunting....

Besides, if you don't like the models, Aion has that system that allows you to switch skins but keep the same stats.

i once beat someone to death with a fishing pole while disguised as a ninja in WOW, i dont think that game (or many of its players) takes itself too seriously as far as weapon models, etc.

the weapons are pretty damn funny, thats true. but some people prize immersion in an mmo, and i could see how these items may detract from that.  although there is also the chance they fit right in with the overall feel of the game. so i guess we'll have to wait and see.

    acceptable or ridiculous?

    Both + brilliant

    my turn for "say what?"
i'm at a total loss as to how you derived whatever you did from my saying i had an ideal concept of the game in my imagination.

i am saying that i would like to imagine that they are going to deliver the game as close to my ideals as possible. that may be a pipe dream or it may happen to a degree that surprises me. i'll find out on day of release.

this is why i put the word "real" in quotes. to avoid the misunderstanding. since it wasn't enough i will explain. it's the feeling of realism while playing in a fantasy world that i am referring to.
what you are saying makes no sense to me. firstly i wasn't speaking of any rules, but that could be part of the misunderstanding i have attempted to explain above.
however i feel like i must say that i disagree with your statement. all games follow real rules (at least for the most part) in order to draw people in and make the environment seem more relatable and immersive. there are always basic rules - movements such as running and walking and swinging a sword. you and everything else living only has so much health before it dies. inventory packs only hold so many items. if there weren't any reality to the games, nobody would play. with that said, i'd like them to be as realistic in following the rules of their storyline as much as possible. you present a scenario with a world and the types of beings which inhabit it and what they're capable of and push out texts and videos with these things in mind, then you turn around and say oh btw we're going to make it all a big, cutesy joke?
of course that's a bit of an exaggeration but it's still annoying to me.
  • personally i like it. for me i think it will make the game more fun to play. i still cant wait for this game!!! AND the silly weapons and armor!!

    Realism != Fantasy.

Aion is a fantasy based game, which is why they have items like this. Fantasy doesn't contain real elements or your taking away from a game that is fantasy.

    fan⋅ta⋅sy

/?fænt?si, -zi/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [fan-tuh-see, -zee] Show IPA noun, plural -sies, verb, -sied, -sy⋅ing.

    –noun

    1. imagination, esp. when extravagant and unrestrained.

    2. the forming of mental images, esp. wondrous or strange fancies; imaginative conceptualizing.

    3. a mental image, esp. when unreal or fantastic; vision: a nightmare fantasy.

    4. Psychology. an imagined or conjured up sequence fulfilling a psychological need; daydream.

    5. a hallucination.

    6. a supposition based on no solid foundation; visionary idea; illusion: dreams of Utopias and similar fantasies.

    7. caprice; whim.

    8. an ingenious or fanciful thought, design, or invention.

    9. Also, fantasia. Literature. an imaginative or fanciful work, esp. one dealing with supernatural or unnatural events or characters: The stories of Poe are fantasies of horror.

    10. Music. fantasia (def. 1).

These weapons are created from imagination, even if the objects they represent are real. FOr instance, you do't see us fighting wars with carrot sticks. If these items take immersion out of your fantasy, then that's fine. But if your looking for a sense of realism, you won't find that in any fantasy.
