No Sieging, No Crafting, No raiding done.  (if they were they weren't made very clear imo)
We need someone to actually review the whole game and not part of it. EG tortage or 2 weeks worth. To stick it out for a bit and actually see what it is like.

A hostile community spirit FunCom fostered by letting fans brutally flame any critic on the official forums, as well as letting some of the most hate filled Global Chat of any MMO continue for many months unaddressed.

This leaves me to assume you have no game at this time then. So, why come here? Why not come here, the entertainment value is enormous. And I have played the game, and continue to monitor it's current state. I was also a customer of the company for many years, before most of the people here had ever even heard of FunCom and I know quite a bit about their history.

I hang out here during work or downtime (say, like right now waiting for supper to finish so I can eat, then get back to playing) to discuss the game. Others hang out here to find any positive thread to trash the game. The players have nothing to do but defend the game because we cannot have one decent post to actually...you know...talk about the game.

Example: One post discusses the upcoming movie and how it would generate interest. Someone actually stopped in to say the movie would suck, and if Funcom worked on the movie it would suck more. How does this constitute a decent discussion of the movie or the game?  In this post you seem to be talking directly at me , so why site an example that has absolutely nothing to do with me?

Again, I have said...I have no issue if the game is being discussed in a rational manner. But, personal attacks have become the norm here...for everyone. Defending or attacking does not matter. Not for everyone, you only catch me calling out folks who are acting disrespectful to others or breaking RoCs or EULAs. I try to stay away from the mudslinging.

So, as I said. If your comment is fun games have a tendency to take up your free time, can YOU not possibly find one to go play or talk about on your free time? This way, we can, on our free time, discuss this game? No one is stopping you from discussing anything here, if  you want a kinder, gentler place without any criticism, it exists ... it's called the Official Forums. If you want to hang out on a forum i don't post on that should be your first choice.

You know full well what the atmosphere is like on these boards, if you chose to participate here, your silly to complain about it.

    Thanks much!

I see no reason to do a re-review. Current review is just fine.

They should do a re-review after something big happens like an expansion, not do a re-review after Funcom fixes a handful of bugs.

  • BarCrowBarCrow Member UncommonPosts: 2,195

They haven't just fixed bugs..Quite a bit of content was added. Now let me save half of you the trouble..."Content that should have been at launch....since funcom must release  a complete , perfect and immutable game right from the start."...similiar blathering about something no mmo has ever done..".blahhh!blah!blah!"

Nobody was expecting a perfect game at lauch. Everyone knows MMO's have bugs at launch. AoC however was SO bugged and lacking content that it was almost unplayable.

They have fixed most of the bugs but a lot of content is still missing and some of it, like Drunken Brawling, has been removed forever.

You probably weren't playing AoC at launch. Otherwise you wouldn't post stupid things like this. Trust me, it's was REALLY bad.

Funcom made a game from 1-20 and new the rest from 20 to 80 was suspect and decided to go ahead and launch and get as much money as possible then ride the heavy weather out after launch. Not knowing that there player base would just up and leave on them. When this happened they put off as best as they could telling there stock holders how bad things were. They look to be just hanging on and i for one do not think there gonna last for to much longer. If a re-review were done today all that could be said was they are trying to get the game in shape like it should and was promised at release.

"And introduces a handful of bugs" added for correctness.

Maybe they could do a re-review after expansion and DX10 are in.

I think 6/10 is a fair score for AoC.

     - Says one of the biggest AoC forum trolls. What a laugh you are.

Wow, I've been here a week with 44 posts and already I'm the biggest troll? Thanks. What did I win?

Listen.. you might love AoC and give it 10/10 but don't get defensive when other people don't like it. Why do you think 90% of players quit the game? Because a couple of bugs? No, they quit because they DIDN'T LIKE THE GAME. Get over it.

I really believe 6/10 is a fair score. That's the same score Eurogamer gave AoC a while back.

I think it's safe to say you are since you entire post history  consists of bashing aoc. You may not have a large history with only 60ish posts, but that's because your previous account probably got banned for the same thing.

Spouting out made up statistics about how everyone and their mother hates aoc is getting pretty old too.

He's just talking about estimates. Most players estimate 80-90 percent of players quit Age of Conan.

I saw it with my own eyes. My whole 400+ guild died in 3 weeks.

Conan had a rough start no doubt but the game is very much playable in its current state and the populations on the two servers I play on are healthy and thriving. It is not the perfect game but it fits perfectly what I want right now and thats shared by alot of other people.

Too bad they haven't done anything about the number one complaint: lack of endgame.

They should have made Ymir's Pass lvl 75-80+.

    "Update – 18th February 2009

Today's update introduces several brand new high level dungeons to the Hyborian world such as ‘Xibaluku’, ‘The Slaugherhouse Cellar’, ‘Cradle of Decay’ and also opening up an additional part to the level 80 raid dungeon ‚Black Ring Citadel’. And there is a series of other significant updates to various game mechanics like raid loot options and GUI updates, PvP resources for tradeskills, tweaking of several raid boss encounters and quests."

Taken from the AoC website,a new lvl 80 solo dungeon,a new lvl 80 raid dungeon plus lots of other stuff added.

They are working more lvl 75-80 stuff as well as a rework of ingame loot.

You continually post misinformation about the game and yet you say no one will team with you on your server,I think your behaviour on this forum speaks volumes why no one will.

Gaming since 1985 and still going strong.

Your right...didn't play at launch. (drunken brawling would have been interesting) ..Still doesn't diminish the fact that I have played several games at launch and many of those were annoyingly buggy and incomplete..for the most part,  unplayable. It happens with a lot of mmo's...and I found , over time most of them improve considerably. Yet still, many posters...despite the fact that they also play these same games (and more) at launch.. knowing  full and well that  the path taken by most fledgling mmos is intitially a rocky one...continue to expect..or at the least become surprised then embittered , that a particular mmo is not virtually (no pun intended) perfect on launch day. I mean...there is screaming for release on a daily basis...then screaming  that it was released too soon when it is launched. Can't F@cking please everyone or anyone, for that matter. If after 6months to a year...a game is significantly updated with patches and content addition/changes..then it should be re-reviewed..and the staff here has commented on their process...which is fine in my opinion. So why is there a problem with this...it's done across the board. Movie directors do this shite all the time...make a movie..show it to producers...change/edit...show it again to producers..show it to the public...re-edit...release to small markets...re-edit and re-release on larger scale. It goes through a series of review processes. The video game/mmo market is no different in this regard. The difference is that MMo's can do this indefinitely...and continue to improve. Meanwhile, a movie that is still crap at release only has one last shot (director's cut) to DVD.....lol.

A solo dungeon? Are you kidding me? That is your awesome new endgame content? A solo dungeon? Lol

A solo dungeon can be finished in ONE NIGHT. What am I supposed to do the next day? Wait for 2 months for the next awesome solo dungeon to come?

Age of Conan needs endgame content that you can play over and over again, night after night. Something like what they have in other games like Guild Wars and EVE etc. Funcom tried to do that with sieges but they failed big time.

Right now after you reach level 80 the game is basically over and you are left with 2 choices: reroll an alt and do the same quests again or quit.

....um....and a raid dungeon too...you see that too right?...They are adding content for 2 play styles...group and solo. They will likely continue to do so...which is fine IMO. It will be a gradual thing...and I'll apologize for them because they can't deliver everything everyone wants ...in one, unheard of, final patch.  If it's a casual night..I can still run a quick dungeon ...or if I have more time...a raid dungeon.  This is a bad thing?

Lol, definitely not. There hasn't been much change since the last review so why re-review it? It would only get the same rating.

Maybe they could do a re-review after expansion and DX10 are in.

Surely you would want to know the changes since you said you last played start of November?

The review was from data/experience  shown to be collated mid to end August which was posted due to delay in October here. In my eyes 7 months have pasted from those experiences the reviewer had. You see the reviewer talks briefly about the upcoming notoriety system which came out start of September placing experiences mid to end of August.

    No experience in:

    Sieges

    High Level Crafting differences

    Cultural Amor crafting / diversification

    New Content additions

    Keep and City building

    PvP levels + Armor

No personal experience touched upon after Tortage, everything wrote could of been garnered from other peoples posts when it would of been nice to have the author actually do a personal review.

Im not sure how saying lack of end game was the major complaint ( debatable I guess) and that he FELT Ymirs pass should have been 75-80. I think they added Ymirs at the right level but maybe he doesnt and just because he doesnt  shouldnt make him worth 4 paragraphs of rant. Of course it looks like you based on more than what he said in his response.

As most players will state, an MMO usually needs 6 months to get started and become stable, and be totally playable. From WoW to todays present market, all have had issues with launch. But, as we have seen with Vanguard, they do make turn arounds. It is the overall view of this genre that the games are never "ready" when they first start.

This is why like Vanguard, it deserves a new review of the items which were not discussed originally, like sieges, the new content, changes to combat...and in my opinion done after patch 1.05 and the stats changes.

    Thanks
