WoW or EQ2 can't decide

ok, i am having a problem in choosing which one would be best for me. I have played EQ in the past thought it was pretty good, I have played the warcraft series and it's an ok rts. Both WoW and EQ2 look really good, but i haven't had a chance to try any cause i wasn;t lucky enough to get any beta spots, and i guess it's up to u on what I play

Here are some pros and cons: EQ- experienced mmorpg maker, more classes, and other stuff not so sure about.

Wow: new to mmorpg, ehh u really can't call diablo an mmorpg if anyone is thinking of that, less classes (but i always wanted to be a troll head hunter cause they are pimp image)

in the end they both have great graphics and high subscriptions which sucks. I know there is a great controversy, but please tell me your honest opinion about the games

thx in advance image

Whatever happened to "The Official WoW vs. EQ2 Thread"?

OP - honestly, to save you the time of thinking it over yourself, if you want an in-depth character customization and build-up, go with EQ2.  If you don't mind being similar to everyone else BUT enjoy anything PvP related (EQ2 has none) go with WoW.

i have been playing EQ2 since this past wed. and i think its a great game. the graphics are phenomenal, the dynamics are really nie, the game play is solid and bug free, all in all its a good game. I dislike having to roam around all over the place to find someone to give me a quest and money is GOD AWEFUL SLOW to come by which can lead to using lv. 2 equipment at lv. 13 (which most people are doing)

WoW is a very fun game, and ive noticed its quite a bit easier, honestly speaking. but the real problem is, can WoW get their shiat together by launch time? EQ2 has had 1 crash thats lasted for about 35 minutes in about 6 days of launch, WoW cant keep any of their beta servers up for longer than 12 hours, and often then its either mega laggy, or some bug has screwed over the entire server. To boot every time they post any new information on their site it crashes, and their boards crash ritually once per day. So all in all SOE has had a fantastic launch while WoW isnt instilling me with any hope as to a solid first week of game play. ill still buy it, but i think ill wait out the first few days...

Sigh... This is off topic ( Dont I start all my posts like this? ) But... high subscriptions? They both charge 14.99 a month if you choose to do it monthly as far as Im aware. But too High? No, 19.99 is too High... 14.99 is a blessing in disquise.

    Peanut butter or Nutella ?

    same kind of question...

Those are both games but both very different games.

Find some information about them you'll see wich one is the best for you.

    Some hints :

    PvP ?

    PvE ?

Graphics (if they are important for you)?

    Gameplay ?

You can find all of that on www.worldofwarcraft.com or on www.everquest2.com

Am playing WoW open beta and it does seem to be an easier game than I prefer. I like to be challenged and play in a game world that instills a healthy respect for the environment, but both WoW and EQ2 have insignificant battle loss penalties(death penalties) so neither one will be as challenging as EQdead was. A game without experience or item loss will never be challenging enough.

WoW does have few server instability issues, but that is to be expected because the open beta is a stress test, however the game is definitely ready for retail and all aspects of the game are fully functional down to the last detail including quests and tradeskills.

From what I have read on the EQ2 forums, there is a lot of complaining about an unfinished game because of broken tradeskills etc.

WoW has good graphics, huge gameworld, is fun, and I give Blizzard a lot of credit for some depth in their game design. I have noticed things that  took some insight to  create and proves that they have  the  instincts and knowledge for releasing a MMO game.

I can't say the same for SOE who have the worst reputation in the gaming industry when it comes to customer service and support and seem to make the same mistakes with every game they release, especially releasing unfinished product.

Wow offered an open beta with confidence, EQ2 did not, that tells me something.

Man am I ever sick of hearing about how bad SOE's customers service is. For every whiney little suck thet didnt get exactly what they wanted, there are 10 players who have never had a problem and are therefore not vocal about it.

Also, EQ2 didnt have an open beta because they didnt need to. It has been an incredibly smooth release and they have already had 2 waves of new servers opened due to demand.

Blizzards "open" beta wasnt quite as open as everyone though now was it ?

I'm sick of these threads too, but I'd recommend EQ2.

I recommand : none of the above...

Seriously they are both very over hyped first generation mmorpg's. But you can have fun playing them...

Stop comparing them. If your new to mmorpg try ether of them, you will propably love both. If you've been playing mmo's for long, you know what you want and shouldnt need that kind of advice to choose between a PvE and a PvP game.

    Another useless topic...

I just got EQ2 and I have to say it has been one of the funnest mmorpgs I have played since Ultima Online (the origianl UO).  I never liked crafting, but I am having fun doing it in EQ2.  The amount of quests are overwhelming.  Character customization is great.

Sure it is a "cookie cutter" mmorpg, but I hate to say, every mmorpg that comes out has some form of cookie cutter because most follow D&D rules.  The community has been great so far.  Everyone is willing to group.  I can't say anything good or bad about WoW because I have never played it.  But I would recommend EQ2 to play if you're looking for a decent mmorpg.

GRrrrrr If you never played WoW how can you recommand EQ2 over WoW...

Again PvP or PvE is the main question... you should be able to find wich is the right for you by yourself.

And I'm sick of people misunderstanding that open beta does NOT equal INIFINITE beta... open refers to the fact there are no pre-requisites to match as if for a closed beta/alpha. Open does not mean open to the population of the world. WoW is popular. ANY game that is as popular as WoW would have to put a limit because of the sheer number that represents. EQ2 just isn't as wanted enough and the cheap bastards didn't even want an open beta. They skipped it just to beat WoW to the market and that's the whole story, anything else is fanboy bullshit.

I just got sick of all those point and click dice rolling mideval mmos..

but I figure there will be a new generation of mmorpgs that will have more player skill(and not skill points), and more action orientated combat in the future soon.. Doesn't matter if it takes place in mideval or in space.

    Thx for all your replysimage

I want a game that the gameplay, grouping, and leveling is awsome. I recently realized while playing ragnarok online it's not the pvping that i have most fun it's the time i have grouping and playing with friends doing pve, alot better then lvling alone. plus i love variety. also i like lvling that is not too easy like some parts of iro becuase then later it's hard as hell to lvl or where like in daoc where all u want to do is do the sieges but it use take forever to get to lvl 15, not anymore though with the patch.

so does that mean EQ2 for me?

Yes, EQ2 perfectly matches that description.

its simple really... do you want to pvp or not..

if not, play eq2, it has the best pve, anyone who says it doesnt is an idiot..

if so, play wow...cause it umm has pvp... which is good, for the people that like to kill other people

  • WarcriminalWarcriminal Member Posts: 244

I have played both games quite extensively and I am gonna go out on a limb here and say that the PvE of WoW is just as good as the PvE of EQII

Does that make me an Idiot?

Other than that it comes down to your taste in GFX and dont let anybody tell you you cannot play WoW if you dont want to pvp. The comunity excuse is rubbish. Plenty of adults and nice people playing WoW -yes...even the pvpers

First of all, the reason you see so many of these threads, WoW vs EQ2, is because most people will only invest all their gaming time in one MMO, in order to advance quickly in that game. If you are tired of this topic, then don't read or respond. Both games are popular and releasing the same time, so many people have to make a choice.

Having played EQdead since day 1, for over 3 years, and being very familiar with  SOE's game philosophies and customer service, it is an easy choice for me, especially since I am able to try WoW for free during the open beta, something EQ2 did not offer. I am not gonna spend $50 on EQ2 in the hopes it is a good game when WoW gave me a free chance to decide, and from what I have seen so far, WoW is getting my money.

WoW has both PvE and PvP servers, but frankly, since the PvP in WoW does not currently offer material gain, the looting of opponent's items or coin,  it isn't real PvP as far as I am concerned, so I am playing on a PvE server and WoW is just as good as EQ2 for grouping and socializing. It is also a very viable soloer game if one is so inclined as I mainly am.

My experience with the latter EQdead and SOE is that they are very anti-soloing since Verant was sold to SOE and the departure of Brad Mcquaid, the original designer of EQdead.  You cannot even tradeskill in EQdead as a soloer anymore since all the high end recipes are dependent on group oriented mobs, and no one trades or sells those ingredients outside their guild.

Wether you mainly group or mainly solo, PvP or PvE, WoW caters to all.

Ya wanna back that up with some stats ? Or or you just talking outta yer ass. . . I'm pretty sure that EQ2 in the end is going to have more stable paying customers than the little brats playing WoW.
