I think an MMO that is full 1st person might actually be a great, new feature. Maybe have it so you can see your character in the character page, but i think first person for the entire game might be a good thing.
I agree, some people are complaining about the pure 1st person view though. I want to play a game and maybe for just one second I actually feel like I'm apart of it.
I'm personally glad that someone is finally locking an MMO into first-person. It's nice to not have to choose between tactical superiority and immersion.
Favorites: EQ, EVE | Playing: None. Mostly VR and strategy | Anticipating: CU, Pantheon
I just really hope its well done first person view.. So that when you look down you see your feet and legs just you would in real life. Unlike some games out there all you see is your hands in front of you if even that. I mean even WoW if you zoom in all the way its just like a camera thats right in front of your body looks dumb, but I guess they didn't intend for people to play like that.
Has there been a game made yet that really has a great first person view in a MMORPG..I cant think of any but a game that does come to mind is Metroid Prime, it looks like your actually in the suit..if I remember correctly haven't played that game in a long time.
Melee fighters with the very limited view are at huge disadvantage against rangers/casters.
That`s why you can`t mix MMORPGs with FPS.
I`m not buying the "immersion" excuse the devs gave for not putting a TPV option.
Nobody is that clueless as to alienate a big group of players from their game especially when less restrictions = more popular game in this day and age.
So it`s probably a technical issue.
Kickazz graphics alla AoC and seamless world don`t mix well, it`s too demanding on your PC so that`s probably why this game is FPV only, to make it playable.
Considering this is supposed to be a ffa-pvp type of game, if it's NOT first person it will really hinder player skill and tactics. The whole idea of first person view IS the limited view that is being complained about. In these mock-pvp style games with third person views, you can just spin the camera around constantly and see someone before the make the ambush. Realistically (and this is the key here, realism), someone cannot and should not be able to be aware of everything around them 100% of the time and this is why first person view is so critical. That and the skill vs autolock third person easy mode type of PvP if you can even call the latter PvP. More like an e-sport if you ask me.
Edit: The ones seriously campaigning for some sort of third person view are more than likely idiots who are used to staring at their over the top, ridiculously styled character constantly. (hint hint)

I agree with you 100% and I think players who give it a chance will learn to love it as long as they do it well. How much more satisfying will it be when your always unaware of every surrounding, (adds suspense) and some dude jumps out of nowhere and scares the shit out of you while your just running to town. Also for all you who like to play rouges can actually play like one by sneaking behind players.
This game looks like a better version of DF not that DF looks bad but I am more excited by this game.
I agree, some people are complaining about the pure 1st person view though. I want to play a game and maybe for just one second I actually feel like I'm apart of it.
That exactly why I like racing games like PGR3, GT4, and flight games like ace combat. 1st in alot of game isn't there, so the more options, the better. Anyone who absolutely hates 1st person has a very large selection of current mmo's which use 3rd person, and many future ones to come.

People who prefer 3rd person view are idiots. What does that make you in proposing this idea?
Although this might be different in an MMO, I am fully open to it. I was discouraged about Fallout 3 being FPS but after I started playing it I loved the game I know I could go into 3rd person view, but I didn't the game was much better in first person. I think MO coming out with a FPS MMO is a great idea it is different and I think that is what we need, something different. I have read about the game and it sounds like it is going to be great, I cant wait!

Unfortunately you seems to be hinting that players who prefer 3rd person views should skip MO. This is not good for MO, as it might start with a much smaller client base, which might not be healthy for an already "niche" product. I wish no ill for MO, but this seems to be an unnecessary restriction to the market potential of MO.
I like both views. But preffer 3rd, i played eq1 for 4 years in fpv and to date its my best experience in a mmo. But as a melee class i would want to be able to see all the jumping laggers running around me when pvp'in. You couldnt fight rogues in wow in fpv, it would be to fncking stupid. not that mo is wow by any stretch. fpv doed make the world aliitle more scary though, not being able to see whats around you. Without spinning to check things out..
FPV is one of the main things that makes MO stand out from the masses. It's a core gameplay feature and it should never ever be changed.
The people who complain about FPV are people who are simply not familiar with it. I strongly suggest that everyone who has issues with FPV should try out Dark Messiah. It's a game which clearly demonstrates that FPV can work great in a fantasy game.
Furthermore, I find it funny that people claim FPV is bad, yet they have not tried how it works in MO. Just because it's done terribly in most other MMO's doesn't mean it will be so in MO. MO has been designed for FPV combat from the start, which is a clear indication that it will work much better from such a view point.
3rd or 1st, I dont care, so long as combat is done well. Given its 1st person, this game will be ruined for me if combat degenerates into a CS circle strafing knife-fight
I've seen circle strafing knife fights in 3rd person view games. The devs can't code gamers to not do that.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."

Good thing MO is going to have this one little thing that WoW doesn't.. which would make fighting rogues rediculously hard..
I hate 1st person views. I can accept it for aimed shots only, as in ranged shooting at targets, but that's the only time and when not aiming would want to go back to 3rd person.
You can't see what's right next to you in 1st person. That's not realistic, not is it practical for close combat. I also hate the feeling of not knowing, all the time, what I'm standing on.
It's like wearing a diving mask all the time. The feeling of immersion is completely lost, and you feel detached from the game world.
The best thing in my mind, is to have an option for either. Depending on the way the camera works, there are times I want to go to 1st person, but almost always I like to be in 3rd person. For example, in WoW, sometimes when you look up the camera gets caught on the ground and goes into a tail spin. That's where I'd like to switch to 1st.
I played in the Darkfall beta, and I did like the archer and mage targetting, but only when I am actually firing at someone/thing. I hated putting my hand weapon away because it forced you into 1st person.
Not being able to see behind you at all times sounds OK to me. It can leave several opportunities to ambush another player who has failed to see you hiding in those bushes over there. And it works well with the real time combat system, hopefully being something similar to Oblivion and other great first person RPGs.
Not to sound like a broken record, but I agree totally with what Amaranthar said. I can't stand first person views for anything other than aimed/targeting shots. I feel suffocated/constricted when forced into 1st person. I can't see half the things in 1st person in a game that I can IRL. It makes my crappy eyesight seem like a blessing... when looking straight through my lenses I see fine, but out the sides, over the top, etc.. and all I see are colorful blurs. I don't even get that in 1st person.
Oblivion may be one of the best rpgs ever... but I tried several times to play it and couldn't. I can't stand the view and the way it controls. *shrugs* To each their own, I say. I think we should be able to choose which view we prefer, because one person feels that first person view improves their immersion, doesn't mean that everyone else feels that way. =/
Edit: Also my vain side comes out in games. I love to be able to see my character at all times. Kickin' ass and lookin' good.
But I am paranoid by nature, and am often looking around in 3rd person view to see if something/someone is after me. I'm going to need therapy if I'm in 1st person view for very long... the constant inability to see what's right next to me, much less what's around me.. that'll drive me batty!
Has there been a game made yet that really has a great first person view in a MMORPG..
Vanguard's first-person view is well done. You look down and see all your limbs where they should be, as well as mounts underneath you, weapons being swung, running/walking/sitting animations, etc.
Its utility is limited to roleplay, but its a very nice feature and I'm constantly disappointed by other games that lack it.

I have no complaints. Played EQ like that for years just because I couldn't stand the 3rd person.

FPV is a range fight affair, like a FPS game.

/shrug Doesn't matter to me as long as the game is good and it delivers. I liked Oblivion, so no beef here.

PHYSICS!
FPV for MO is good or not, I don't know. But I'm sure, MO will make less money if no TPV.
