You are aware tons of L2 private servers use ACTUAL NCSoft SQL server files correct? They were either stolen or taken from the company some other way. Seriously, you have no clue what you're talking about. Please quit now...while you're ahe....oh **** it, you aren't ahead of anything.
Again, the same argument applies. Since you have no development experience, you have no fucking clue. SQL is super high level coding, you're not hotfixing a game using SQL. You are not pulling thousands of player logs off the server using that, nor are you actually running a real server.
Now let me teach you how a game server works{mod edit}. The server is usually seperated into several blades. What gets all these blades running is SQL yes, but SQL just executes what it needs to to get the actual game running, you would still need to use SQL if you wanted to launch a server from the desktop, so that's moot.
In any case usually servers are seperated into the different game worlds which are different blades, then there's creature code (This is loot tables, and movement caluclations) then there is a server database, an item database, a portal blade that handles in and out traffic, and then the actual users or players and their movement. Some MMOs even have a blade dedicated to their trade/auction systems.
Now you can run all of these on a desktop server and support a few thousand players yes, however the server works differently. Like mob movement calculations aren't updated every loop unless a player is near by. Same thing with items and pricing, things aren't updated or communicated with players at all times, everything is slowed down or instanced off until a player is near by and needs ALL the information.
AV is running a production server that is updating every game loop keeping logs, keeping admins, keeping IT guys, loading everything at once. Loops are around every .2 seconds(some games are faster some are slower).

I will give SQL a little more credit, it's responsible for communication between all the different game databases and information streams, and can be used to transfer log information over to another output server or device, again though, you would sill need that to run a desktop L2 server.

Okay you are still not paying attention to what I've written. You CANT make up server files, it's impossible. You seem to think I'm saying that, after I have said several times, "YOU NEED ACTUAL SERVER FILES TO RUN A SERVER". It doesn't change the fact that you can take those server files and change some CVARS (These are server settings coded into the actual server files.) to make servers work a little differently without affecting functionality.
Again this is how mmo devs work. They bring up a private server with certain CVARs so they can check changes they make on that server, they have to work in the real server files and use all the server files or they destroy the integrity of their implementations. The idea is to get as close to a production server as possible on a desktop, and they do a damn good job since that method has worked for dozens of developers.

Played about 10-15 major games from beta 2... and another 10-15 from beta 3 to open. Release...A pile of them. I know everything there is to know about the different states a game can be in. This one... at release.. is closest to Shadowbane and Dark and Light. It is nowhere near any of the normal Beta 2 experiences I have had in my 15 years with MMOs...
But then... What do I know? I am sure you with your extensive knowledge know a lot more than me. Now tell me, exactly what releases are you talking about that has 50% of the promised features in the game and the existing 50% were so simple most javascript games could do the same? If not, then I dont think they have been around many mainstream titles at launch. I bought a copy of DAoC, CoH, WoW, EQ2, and VG at launch since I began MMos with EQ in 01(it had been out about 2 yrs).
I learned before SWG launched that I better keep my ears open during beta of any title I am interested in. With all the crap going on with SWG during beta, I decided not to buy at launch. In the following months all I heard about was a junk title. Granted it did have something of a "normal" launch ....unlike what appears to be going on here. SWGs problem that it was just a terriblely designed game IMO(whole other topic).
Granted I didnt listen to my own advice wih EQ2 and VG, cause I wanted them to both take EQ into a new era. Otherwise I have done well about staying away from titles that have flags about them...which this one did all these years.
I dont know what is going to happen to this game, I just know reading the threads has been entertaining. It is pretty evident there are some serious issues going on with DF. Listening to folks trying to deny it is quite golden. Witness the OP(if they are indeed serious).
Hopefully this game gets right since folks got money involved.

Okay you are still not paying attention to what I've written. You CANT make up server files, it's impossible. You seem to think I'm saying that, after I have said several times, "YOU NEED ACTUAL SERVER FILES TO RUN A SERVER". It doesn't change the fact that you can take those server files and change some CVARS (These are server settings coded into the actual server files.) to make servers work a little differently without affecting functionality.
Again this is how mmo devs work. They bring up a private server with certain CVARs so they can check changes they make on that server, they have to work in the real server files and use all the server files or they destroy the integrity of their implementations. The idea is to get as close to a production server as possible on a desktop, and they do a damn good job since that method has worked for dozens of developers.
That is EXACTLY the standard fanboi crap excuse we've seen with bad launches recently. "Every MMO has problems at launch, so they are all the same."
Unfortunately, they aren't. While all MMOs have some issues and problems at launch, they vary by quantity and severity. It's disingenuous to imply that they all launch the same, because they all have problems.

BUT 50EUROS for a DIGITAL COPY , for hours of queuing , with no box, no manual, only 1 server and only 1 char, for an empty world, for a stress test: This game is the most expensive of the market. Laughable.

Played about 10-15 major games from beta 2... and another 10-15 from beta 3 to open. Release...A pile of them. I know everything there is to know about the different states a game can be in. This one... at release.. is closest to Shadowbane and Dark and Light. It is nowhere near any of the normal Beta 2 experiences I have had in my 15 years with MMOs...
But then... What do I know? I am sure you with your extensive knowledge know a lot more than me. Now tell me, exactly what releases are you talking about that has 50% of the promised features in the game and the existing 50% were so simple most javascript games could do the same? SWG, EQII, EVE, DaoC, LoTRo, CoH, AO, Planetside, WWIIO or WoW or any of the other? Pretty much any on the released list? I have first hand experience of most of them in beta or at release, so please.... tell me exactly how bad they were? Or are you talking about that game your nephew made in the cellar that was really really good, but his parents grounded him that month so he could not release it?

First off i only support games i play (except tor) and i havnt played this one because im smart enough to not play certain games until a few months after release. Are you implying that by "every other", he meant something like "one of every two, or alternating releases"? Because he didn't. He meant "every MMO other than DF, meaning all of them minus DF". Wow, guess you'll go to any lengths to defend The Precious, including a puerile attempt at word gymnastics.
I'll say that DF is still new, and has time to correct all the problems, but as of now this launch ranks up there with the worst of all time. They appear to be pioneering entirely new ways to suck.

I take it you havent ever visited the SWG vet forums the past 3 + yrs.
I am of the mind set that the OP is sarcastic.
If not, then I dont think they have been around many mainstream titles at launch. I bought a copy of DAoC, CoH, WoW, EQ2, and VG at launch since I began MMos with EQ in 01(it had been out about 2 yrs).
I learned before SWG launched that I better keep my ears open during beta of any title I am interested in. With all the crap going on with SWG during beta, I decided not to buy at launch. In the following months all I heard about was a junk title. Granted it did have something of a "normal" launch ....unlike what appears to be going on here. SWGs problem that it was just a terriblely designed game IMO(whole other topic).
Granted I didnt listen to my own advice wih EQ2 and VG, cause I wanted them to both take EQ into a new era. Otherwise I have done well about staying away from titles that have flags about them...which this one did all these years.
I dont know what is going to happen to this game, I just know reading the threads has been entertaining. It is pretty evident there are some serious issues going on with DF. Listening to folks trying to deny it is quite golden. Witness the OP(if they are indeed serious).
Hopefully this game gets right since folks got money involved.
But I hope not for a while at least...best material to read on MMORPG in a while

Right! There is a big difference in running a simple server to run one, and running a server that a developer can actually use to hotfix / change / support / protect / develop on / log / database.
I think that you have no idea what actually goes into a production server, this isn't a little CS blade that you rent from some local company or a 16 gig desktop L2 server.
They have had 7-8 years to figure it all out for christ sake!
They have been bragging for years on how they have stresstested their game with so called stresstest bots (wich were in their opinion SUPERIOR to real player tests) and how it was peanuts to allow 10k simultanious users on a single server! And how this game was going to WTFPAWN all the other MMO's.
And now the real launch has come and the server cannot even handle a handful of players before going down again and again.
But hey, they did use AI bots and professional testers, right? They didn't need us. Welcome to P2P Beta, Tasos style.

Obviously at launch being able to buy the game is important.
Everytime (which is 99% of the time on this forum) I read someone bashing Darkfall like Darkfall raped their wife, I can't help but think about how sad their life must be to spend hours on this forum telling others about how bad Darkfall is.
