FIrst I head dual core is better then quad, then i hear the GhZ is what matters not the cores, so I wanted to see what an expert gamer would recommend!
Games I play: AoC, WOW, COD4, CS:Source, looking to play high end graphics ones though like crysis and fallout 3, etc.
I have a 9600 GT Alpha Dog XXX Edition graphics card i'd probly take out of my old rig to use on my new one, so should I do SLI and get another or no?
Currently have 3 gb of ram and 3800+ amd athlon single core processor with 160gb hard drive space, want around 500gb though,, and XP SP3, want vista
Looking to spend 500-700$, 64 bit vista ( upgradable to 8gb of ram would be cool, but would i even need 8gb? if not 4gb is fine), and whatever I need to play any games at a great framerate.
Thanks to anyone that's willing to help me out! ^^

Please do NOT buy a PC right now.We are about to unleash Windows 11 and everything high tech and new will need to be utilized with W11.Sure it is based on the same end as DX10,but it will have some differences. One of their main goals was to make the new video cards actually WORK in gaming with W11,so i expect a huge step up in GPU's and there usefulness.

Anything you buy now will need bios updates ,and that is if they can deliver, i would just wait until about a good 6 months after Windows 11 comes out,so you get the true compatible hardware for W11.I would say around Christmas time this year, would be a great time to treat yourself with a new rig.So you know i could easily buy top of the line right now if i wanted, but i made that mistake when VISTA came out,now i am willing to wait.

ALSO do NOT believe anything you see posted on websites, often they are given higher tech with much faster components than we the user get from the store,it is all part of their marketing.I have seen VERY little improvements in tech when compared to what they claim.I would say every upgrade i see about a 20% increase, while they claim things like 300% increase,it just isn't so.

First of all  Its Windows 7... and it allready done and the Beta has been out for a while....as well , i have 2 friends with the full retail already.  (corp Verison) they get it before everyone else. And if you did any reading its more stable that Vista now.. and more stable than XP and Vista at there release.     The only Problems,  it has Early Driver support for low level Input Devices ( so meaning if your a walmart PC guy. your going to run into Driver problems, on low end Parts)

But W7 has a min sys Req of 1g of ram. So if your running a vista PC you are going to love the freed up 3gigs of memory

Second DX11  hahahaha   Waiting for that is like waiting for Jesus to come back.... Dont listen to this shit.  Game's now  can't support DX10 well, let alone a new  version.  "how many GPU's support DX11.?"    Once again  Misinformation

RIGHT NOW IS THE TIME TO BUY A PC!!!!  parts are coming down on price all over cuase the country is fucked. Not to mention the Price war  ATI vs Nvidia  has put GPU's so cheap it unheard of.    Memory is at a all time low.  are you kidding? dont buy now?

right now the top of the food chain GPUS are under 400 (GTX285)

    top CPUs under 300 ( i7 920)

even memory ...i got mine 3 months ago and the price drop was from 400 to 200.

read the thread before you post your crap.

Dread is TOTALLY right right about the market! With the current conditions I made a totally new computer with basically top of the line parts and current tech for 640 bucks. Try doing that a year ago hehe. Personally I think this pricewar will be all but over by middle of next year. You mite see the last gasps around christmas though since people mite be buying less. Which will start a stupid feeding frenzy of people saying the economy is collapsing*Waffles face* I seriously am getting tired of the reactive market.

    Hey Dread,

Thanks for the informed posts. I'm also looking to build a PC and I value your feedback.  My budget is $1500 plus $500 for a nice monitor.  Out of curiosity, what did your personal rig cost to build?  I want to be prepared for next gen mmo's, FPS, etc.  Basically, anything out in the market :). Thanks in advance!

if you want that kind of help...no problem i can price out a computer  for any price.   just go to 55six.com  Register and post  "need help with a PC from LD"   i will respond to you. Also it would be better if you had TeamSpeak  so we can talk it out.

This goes for everyone. i dont mind helping you all.  just  go to my Clans site for info.
