Rifts Out of all these posts no one mentioned Rifts??? Seen a few Shadowrun posts but Rifts has it all. Everything a gamer ever wanted in an MMO. Power Armors, Magic Users, Scouts, Evil Corperation Government, Rebels, Vampires, Juicers, Demi-Gods....PvE...PvP.....Massive Battles, Solo Friendly as well as Group Play. An Insane amount of explorability of land.
There's been talk between Palladium and Development companies, the deals have been falling apart though. Agreed though, Rifts would be an awesome mmorpg.
My List:
Macross, Shadowrun, Chrono Trigger/Cross universe, Secret of Mana universe, Rifts, Mechwarrior, Temeraire Series.
Also, I'd love to see a mmorpg based in colonial times. No magic added to the world. Healing would have to be dealt with another way.

I agree, Rifts would be amazing. I played "MUDs" back in the day of Rifts. Had a bunch of the books and spent tons of time researching and developing my characters. Would love to see this turned into a 3d virtual world

There's one, and only one, IP that I would love to see that hasn't been done, BATTLETECH!!!!! This game would be so awesome. Not only could you upgrade your mech, you could upgrade your pilot too! PvP in this game would be awesome. If not Battletech, then I guess I could settle for a Gundam or Esca Flowne IP. I want something with Mechs!
That would be awsome! And think, maybe you could join factions like jade falcon. Or even make your own merc factions. Would be AWSOME for RP also. Like take for instance, you are an enemy of the Federated Suns, or Federated Commonwealth, "whichever point in time". Then you could actually "Gain faction rep" By fighting against them with chivarly and not being a cheap ass.
But if say you used cheap tactics in battle against them, you would lose faction, and in turn, they throw away all their chivarly and go all out against you, basically making them twice as powerful. This could go to the extent that if you battle against and kill enough of their men in a "honorable way", they would actually invite you to join them while still staying alligned with your merc faction. I see alot of awsome "FactionalRP/Battle mechanics" Possible in this idea. It's the first time I've see possible "Battle mechanics" Being influence by both decision making/gameplay style, "And what side you're on.
Too add to it all, put yourself inside the cockpit mode just like back in the good-ol Mech-warrior game series, and make awsome terrain for essential strategy and planning. + the need for a good ammount of skill and good hit boxes so parts you shoot at actually have a risk of getting blown off individual and having certain effects. Man I can really see past the horizon with battle-tech universe becoming a MMO. But I would be extremely upset if the IP was picked up by someone who would ruin it. Their are so many ways to go wrong approaching a MMO, it's not even funny. Worst scenario being some super fast paced action game with little skill and not a single bit of love for the actuall die-hard battle-tech/mech-warrior fans.

RIFTS!!! I TOTALLY forgot Rifts.
Forgot Bladerunner too.
Terminator...
Guyver...
Something Horror with werewolves or anything BUT vampires. ( I have a Tween daughter and Im sick of Twilight, please forgive my vampire hate)

I mentioned Rifts in a similar thread about 9 months ago. They could release it with 3-5 worlds...like fantasy...wild west..high tech...whatever. Then major expansions each year would fix stuff and add at least one new dimensional world from some genre. Sounds great...but probably a nightmare to create and manage...considering all the different models..animations..factions per dimensions as well as classes per dimensions based on the genre...then imagine loot/gear/clothing ...and what the characters would look like based on what gear was obtain through various realities.
5. Julian May'a Many Colored land (Would make an awesome pvp game)
I had forgotten about that series... that's a REALLY good idea for a MMO ! I don't know if I'd be as into it if it was purely a PVP-targeted game (just not my thing), but the concept (people time travelled to a prehistoric past lorded over by psychic powers-possessing Elf-like aliens is full of possibilities. A great blend of sci-fi and fantasy-ish adventure.
I'm seeing a lot of people mentioning Dune by the way. Obviously Frank Herberts fantastic universe is perfectly fit for an MMO. A dune MMO would be unlike any other Sci-Fi MMO for the simple reason that the Dune Universe is unlike any other Sci-Fi universe. Developers out there should wake up to the possibilities a game of this story would bring, but I don't want some schrub studio making it, it has to be a big project, created by a talented studio and backed up by a wealthy publisher.
GTA
GTA in many ways seems so perfectly fit for an MMO for several reasons. One is that the single player games already seem very much tailored for an MMO with their careful combination between mission based structure and free roaming. A well made GTA MMO game, in my opinion has the potential to dominate MMO sales (at least in Europe and the US).
Caligula
Now who wouldn't want to play in the decadent world and time of Caligula, an empire rotten to the core and on the brink of collapse, barbarians knocking at the gates and a mad and perverse empiror who made Nero look like Mother Theresa. The MMO should be based on Tinto Brass' 1979 film "Galigula" and should naturally be at least mature rated, but preferably Adult Only.
A few have mentioned it, but the one traditional fantasy setting that sticks in my mind as perfect for an MMO would be Raymond E. Feist Midkemia World from the Krondor series. It has many well developed factions and it even has starter areas! (Crydee anyone?) The World is huge and the lore is incredibly detailed. The Kingdom vs Kesh? The Riftwar? Awesome!
David Eddings World from the Belgariad would also be a good choice in my opinion.
As far as Sci-Fi, how has anyone NOT thought about Battletech/Mechwarrior as a perfect vehicle for an MMO? I can think of no other IP that could be so easily turned into an MMO. It has all the history and lore already written and the premise of the Mercs and Merc Legions just screams MMO to me.
Farscape would be an interesting idea also. It has so many unique races and planets it could really be a fun world to explore.
Dune (though have serious doubts if this could be converted well into a MMO well while keeping true to the books)
And one not seen mentioned, the Deathstalker universe by Simon Green, Good blend of swords/magic with blasters and space battleships with tons of weird and wonderful npc races you could fight against. Hell way it is written would not even require much adaptation to make it "fit" into a mmo universe
I need a new MMO world to call home as Tom Chilton keeps destroying them
Those are the two IPs I am waiting for someone to pick up. At least a company named Vigil Games are working with THQ on the WH40k but Battletech/Mechwarrior would kick all ass also.
MMOs Played: I can no longer list them all in the 500 character limit.

Wow...12 pages and I don't think anyone mentioned The David Edding's series' The Belgariad and The Malloreon.
It would certainly make for an interesting MMO. It would be interesting to see how they would deal with the whole magic restrictions.

I know it'd be basically just another sword and board fantasy mmo, but I would really like to see Krull made into an mmorpg.
