Darkfall's massive popularity: the most popular mmorpg on mmorpg.com for last 3 months running

javacjavac Member Posts: 1,175

see mmorpg.com front page.

just this month on mmorpg.com:

Darkfall: 191,906 Unique Hits

WAR: 144,954 Hits

WOW: 73,236 Hits

Darkfall has been the top-viewed MMORPG every month since just before release.

Darkfall is second only to WAR for most page views in the last 6 months. Not bad for an indie mmorpg with $0 spent on marketing hype.

As of right now, there are 1700 users online on the DF forums. that's more than the whole of mmorpg.com.

4800 new users signed up for the DF forums in the past 5 days.

Fact is, Darkfall is already massively popular in its own right, and popularity is continuing to grow rapidly, thanks to rock solid stability, fresh new gameplay, large-scale battles, and stellar graphics.

The only reason why there's so many people is :

    People enjoy drama.

That's why I'm here lol.  I came in the first place cause I had hopes for the game but now I just stay for the entertainement factor and I'll bet 90% of everyone else are here for the same reason cause honestly, there's almost 0 good information on the game here it's trash talking at it's best!

    couldn't resist.

thing is, it's all true. the client *is* rock solid stable, the gameplay *is* new & fresh, there *are* large-scale battles all the time, and the world/enviro graphics *are* surprisingly good in-game. look at the front page of mmorpg.com, under 'most popular', and the front page of the DF forums. the facts are all out there.

it's only in this forum where the reality distortion field makes Darkfall into a bad & poorly performing game. in the real world, it's got a few issues but the core game is in a word, awesome.

That doesn't mean that the game is popular but the counts showing the love/hate are popular.   Hope you are intelligent enough to understand the difference.

not gonna deny it. all the credit has to go to Tasos though, he is the master puppetmaster, he knows just how to word everything so that the fans get the core info, but leaves it ambiguous & thin enough that trolls are baited into slagging the game.

    it's pure marketing genius IMO.

actually most others have the same gripes about the game as people on this forum. To be honest this site is very pro darkfall compared to others. The ingame graphics are pretty bad. The world isn't terrible but the battle are nothing more than zergfest/spam leftclick fps mesh. This is once again just my view on the game and I have nothing against those who play it but the topic behind this thread is completely and udderly useless. It just screams "TROLL ME BABY".

yet people can hardly sign up & buy it fast enough. hmm, interesting...

    mmorpg.com being pro-darkfall? i hope you're joking...

btw, what does "udderly useless" mean?

  • The_KorriganThe_Korrigan Member RarePosts: 3,460

Oh yes, the rating of the game dropped from 9 to 6.8 since release... definitely a success

And I wouldn't be surprised to find out that a vast majority of new joinies on the forums were'nt there trying to figure out how to find the game and download it.  I was really interested in the game but the way that the publisher handled the sales really put me off.  They had the right idea of attempting to balance the load.

But limiting purchase times and all that was really a strange way to go about it.  I gave up on it myself.  Sorry I'm a firm believer in let me have what I want when I want it.  Especially if I'm willing to pay for it.

Not knocking your game, really.  It still looks great.  But being that I had to play mouse-in-the-maze to get hold of it, really turned me off of it.

Controversial does not equal popularity. Its quite human to have a morbid fascination with a train wreak.

Fact is, Darkfall is already massively popular (Controversial) in its own right, and popularity (Controversy) is continuing to grow rapidly, thanks to rock solid stability (Do to lack of features) , fresh new gameplay (Copied from games made 10 years ago that subsequently removed them due to flaws in design), large-scale battles (that are tiny compared to modern games) , and stellar graphics (That only use a handful of game assets, and can be compared to somthing made in 1999).

Uh.... If 200 people want to buy something, yet you only sell 5 of the item at a time, yeah...its going to be sold out.

You REALLY need some perspective in your life.

only cause the game is sold out and you don't need to have played the game to vote. was #1 rated game for months before release.

you can't fake visiting the forums, therefore the popularity is real.

1 single crash out of thousands of players online every hour every day since release? not crashing for me once since beta? yes, that's rock solid.

contrast this with WAR where there were mass CTDs (crash-to-desktop) issues for months after release, or WOW's widely publicised server crashes post-release.

You can't base popularity on forum visits either. More than half the people here don't play it (anymore).

I understand it can make you feel better for your purchase to think that the game you play has success, but don't be fooled too much by assumptions based on meaningless numbers... you'll think about it again when in a month or two, this forum is close to dead.

actually the number of cancellations is tiny. why do you think they are offering hardly any new subscriptions?

i realise you want to feel better about donating your $50 to Darkfall but being too WOW-genised to handle it, but the facts speak for themselves. gg.

Did you read that thread? There were numerous players who told the exact same story from different sieges they had been involved in. There are also several threads daily on the official forums about CTD:s and that you crash after just a few hours of playing.

Maybe you are not experiencing crashes, good for you, but others do. I did not have any problems with Vanguard on launch, but loads of people did! Pretty much the same thing.

prove it. i can prove that DF has offered barely any new subs since initial sellout.... what can you prove?

and don't say forum posts either, cause anyone can claim to have bought & cancelled, and plenty of obvious trolls have done exactly that.

That would because they can’t support any more, unless they remove more NPC's.

I would also not be correcting anyone's grammar or spelling if were you.

Now you're losing control of yourself and start to make assumptions about me and my playstyle. Ran out of arguments, or feel threatened in your rose colored vision of your fetish game?

We'll talk about it again in a few. Don't be sad when you'll see that I was right about this forum though.
