Albeit in a test form, but it will hit. Check this out...

The update will make a test version of DX10 available to the live servers. This version is not final, but we wanted to release it to more players outside of the public test servers so that we can get data from a wider range of software and hardware configurations. This release will run smoothly on most, if not all, top-end video cards and we will be continuing to tune it through this last testing phase to allow more DX10 capable cards to experience the new effects and settings.

So it is coming to live, but will be clearly labeled as a test version, there is some additional work required but we wanted to get some more test data before considering it done. While a little unorthodox I know, we felt it was the best way forward to get better testing but at the same time start to let people enjoy it.

I am sure it wil be ugly, but at least they can get full testing on it. Great news.

Cheers

I will just need to be prepared for the "OMG it doesnt run on my 2 gigs and Vista 32 system with an 8600gt" posts that will pop up..

But, yes, Craig needs to be commended. He is really working his butt off to get this stuff in.

    Cheers

Cool can't wait to see how great it is in about 2-3 months.    That's how long it should take Funcom to have it runs smoothly.  In the meantime prepare for massive downtime, patches and fps issues.

Are you kidding me? This STILL isn't in? Let me go check.... Yep my box from LAST SUMMER says DX 10 on it... And they are only now putting it on test center? That is sad.

Once it goes live, we can wait for clearSam to come in and tell us how DX10 is running awesome on his commadore 64 and that the population is growing exponentially because of it.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
    Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

I dunno but it seems like the graphics are the least of AoCs problems.........Even with DX9 most people think it has the best graphics......Fix the rest of the game.

You know it will be like it was a launch for people.  I think what they are doing is a good compromise, SSAO is a pain in the butt giving a 10 FPS just for that one thing. Everything else is pretty configurable to get some benefits at not much of a hit.

If you can get everything on it is a beast !

Testlive has not needed to go down for DX10, so I do not forsee that. Patches? That is a given, as it states it is in a test form. FPS Issues? See my comments about 8600GT's and people complaining,

So, yea, I also expect that amount of time for it to work well. Took time to get the bugs out before. At least it is ready to go to a live environment and people can start reporting the problems to get resolved.

    Cheers

Well, it's not like they take out DX9. AoC will still run like a mthrfckr on DX9 so... It's less critical. AND it will speed up testing/implementation of all DX10 features. Ohhh my I am looking forward to this.

i'm just curious - not a flame or anything - i know how sensitive you AOC boys are

but - hasn't LOTRO had dx10 for quite some time?

what is the issue with AOC - why has it taken so long to get it to work

    thanks

probably the fact that it is a different engine.

No it has been on Test Server 3 months, they are putting the same test client as an option on the live servers as an update so people can check it out on their hardware as every one is different.

DX10 if happened at launch is not the same DX10 the game is getting now. Not in a millions years let alone some things technically not possible at that time.

There is no denying you need to have a mainstream decent rig to have it enabled. When FC said on the box "Enhanced For" well wait and see what you get. As I said it is more that a regular DX10.

Example I just brought Tom Clancys HAWX, I have 3 options for DX10 in that game as a brand new one. If AoC had launched with it, that would be the same. There are optional extra's for all to pick if they want to enable them now, and each in it's own right adds to the immersion in my opinion.

Also consider all the GPU's that have come out since then that can do DX10 there are many more to test with the client that there would of been available from the handful at release.

It has been a steady procress and well worth the wait. It will also bring people to come and have a look. Whether you think that is good or bad or long/ short term effects... well. Gameplay counts at the end of the day. Having the DX10 adds a little ingrediant into that mixing bowl of gameplay.

LOTRO only uses a few Dx10 features. If I'm correct AoC will use all of Dx10

LOTRO took over 6 months to implement DX10, so it was NOT in at launch. As well, it has been stated by Turbine that LOTRO is NOT 100% DX10 compliant. It only has bits and pieces.

Basically AoC will be the first MMO with 100% DX10 compliance in the engine.

(PS: And by the way, we are not sensitive at all, just more informed....cheers)

Wow I am pretty excited. Hoping to see some screenshots tomorrow from people running it.

Anyone know since this is going partly live tomorrow if this is gonna be a huge patch?

    Your correct.

The lotro environment looks pretty good with the high res client/dx10 on max but lotro character renders still look out of place. I have seen screens and short videos from the aoc dx10 version on testlive and it looks great. Some people of coarse are having some issues with it. The DX9 version of aoc has the best and most realistic graphics out of the genre imho and what i've seen so far with the dx10 blows me away. I really need to get a new rig.

It will be an option to enable and test, I like how they are taking an extra step to get the final release right.

Ignore the haters, for a game they hate so much they spend alot of time here.

    Hey Seven!

It depends on the level of implementation. For example my "test" server client folder is 1.4GB larger than my "live" one. I would expect it to quite big regardless.

When you get to try it, turn on the High Quality grass effect and take a stroll in Poitain. It's very cool.

    Marketing Pure & Simple

"I am in San Francisco for GDC" ~ Morrison

I am sure this is exactly why they are trying to throw up some version of DX10 on live.

Don't really see the reason for all the patting on the back, they still don't have a completed Client for 10. Any subscriber had access to this on test live for months. This is more non-news.

I think a bunch of you folks deserve free t-shirts from FunCom that say "Will Hype for Crumbs"

Will be interesting to see how the dx10 client work on live servers, I predict lots of issues for some whilst other will have an awesome experience. Then again funcom have in this case siad it is for testing purpose and I do understand why they want to put it live as it would generate a huge amount of feedback they won't get from test servers.

Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC)
    On my radar: TSW, MO
MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside
MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom

Amazing I can agree on the SSAO is intensive on a system. I know first hand as I tested it on a indie project me and some friends were doing on a Java based 3d MMO last year, granted my system was pretty beefy, but it did take a hit til our programmer optimized it alot, and difference is night and day, so for me if they got it, can get it done in such a way where although there will be an obvious hit, its minimal due to optimizations. one can only hope.

im definitely happy about this given that im guilty of being a graphics whore, but i figure if im going to enjoy conan, i might as well enjoy it in its wonderous visual orgasmic pleasure lol. despite the hardships and foulups, craig has truly turned this game for the better, lets hope the rest of the game continues to improve as it has.

Another thing. The Testlive folks have in general quite Uber rigs. Updating live servers will give more feedback from the guys with medium hardware.

similar to what others and openedge stated, LOTRO uses and implements bits and pieces of DX 10 specific features, where as AOC is built from the ground up to take advantage of both DX9+ and DX10 and fully complaint on both.
