Wow ... that must be the worst reply I ever read on mmorpg.com. He wasn't even addressing the game on it's merits, dude. He merely, but rightfully puts AV on trial for the total lack of information and transparency which we, the potential customers, have to put up with. I was a fence sitter myself and spent quite some hours browsing these boards and watching youtube vids but exactly this issue which the OP phrased so clearly, left me without confidence in AV.
The only reason I can think off is that they are mortally afraid of attention since having the game up and running on multiple servers and open to all newcomers is not something they expect to happen anytime shortly, that and; "Every postponement or setback we communicate about will be more fuel on the fire for all the cynics out there".
A vallid reason, considering they were already leading the 'fuck ups' chart in the developement cycle and they already had so much crap coming their way. But they fail to realize that NOT being open, honest and clear about the issues they are facing and the current state of things, is making things worse for those who are able to forgive shortcomings at launch and are interested in the game nonetheless. Their non-com pollicy adds insult to injury to the fencesitters like the OP and me, rather than the trolls who would flame the game anyway.
Your personal feelings have little bearing on my enjoyment of the game. As I am, in reality, enjoying the game and since I am not really interested in the demands of individuals regarding what they believe the game should be, or what the developers should do, my answer was actually just about right.
I have to agree. I don't understand who these people believe they are...demanding a company give them full transparency. This isn't the United States Government and they don't pay taxes to Darkfall Online. I'm beginning to question the intelligence of people who play MMOs.
Perhaps someone will explain it to me. How do you have the right to demand AV do anything? Because you pay $15 dollars a month?

the game clearly hasnt been "released"... its a closed paid beta...
if it was released and they accepted payment, they would be in contravention of around a dozen EU laws related to the sales of goods act...
a) product is not fit for purpose.
b) deliberate misleading advertising
c) no provision for customer support
etc etc...
if they were "open for business", the DTI in the UK at least would have them shut down within 24 hours... if the game really did have the potential they claim, no bank would deny them the credit necessary to put in place a business capable of servicing the game and its subscribers. As it is, Darkfall amounts to little more than an experiment where 10k suckers pay for the priviledge to enter the world created by a couple of gaming enthusiasts... It will never be anything more than that... and its time to put darkfall to one side and move on to something else, more serious, with ambitions.

Don't know the details of EU retail laws but given Av have still not updated there website... well just seems amatuer.
... this sir is no laughing matter. Seriously can you not use your DF fandom and subscription to get them to UPDATE the website. Least then the misunderstanding stop. Go find Lord Tasos and ask nicely. Oh thats right AV don't have any customer service. Damn !
/sigh... AV deserve to be mocked until this one simple thing is done. Why is it always so utterly mad with the company ?

Demand? How much money have you invested in this game?
Why on earth would I invest money in this game? It reeks of fraud at this point. I've lived long enough on this earth to have learned better than to throw money at hucksters.

Yea, the website needs some love.
Yes, AV is a bit of a basket case when it comes to "expected" marketing practices.
On the bright side, they sure know how to make a fun game.

No, they don't have a "right" to demand this, but they do have the right to not pay if they don't get it. It isn't a matter of making an unreasonable demand, but rather wanting to know where they will be spending their money. It is in Adventurine's best interest to be more open, but since they are not, then it is the consumer's best interest to walk away and spen money elsewhere. So robertb's answer, while satisfying to him, is not "right". Adventurine keeps up this attitude, and they will not have enough players to keep the game running, and where will that leave you fanboys?

You are confusing your personal views with the actual reality of the situation. You are also prognosticating and even if your fortune telling ends up to be the case, at this point it is simply your guess, based on your opinion.
So, based on the actual current state of affairs and your stated opinions, I must once again simply say that my, referred to, response was correct.
It's actually simple: Adventurine should not be treated as 'professional developers' but as 'artists'. 'Artists' are givem much more leeway when it comes to producing stuff. They can be eccentric, stubborn, make extravagant claims or treat their customers with disrespect and still be idolized because what they produce 'speaks' to their fans.

I dont really like the insults and silliness in this forum, I prefer to debate real in game issues.
But the excuses are getting so outlandish now I have to say this.
If they are somehow 'artists' , I wouldnt trust the animation guy to paint a portrait of a red blob. he would use blue paint.
To be honest, it would be easy to hit them with false advertising. It is a small project, however, and it wouldn't be worth the hassle.
My assumption is that they needed a small stream of income while working on the game, and plan to release officially later on. A game release is essentially when the game is advertised and box sales start. No one knows if this game will reach that stage, but it would make sense if they are planning that for the future.
For those who tried to give the OP a hard time, you have clearly showed your ignorance of ethics in the business world.
While I agree with the OP as far as AV's business sense (or lack there of) is concerned, the fact is I have had a lot of fun in Darkfall. I am taking the gamble in hopes that promised features are implemented and AV improves their customer service model.
Trouble is a lot of the features that are still advertised have been completely axed, it's not just that they are currently missing. It is fradulent however you cut it. I just wonder why they havent spent the 10 minutes it would take to tidy up? Hell the original poster over at the DF forum had done all the work. The fact they locked his thread would suggest they would like to perpetuate the fraud.
They are banning cheaters but it's not wide spread. (No real clarity on whether macroing is OK half do half don't it seems). Oh and there is support thats good to know, I guess Tasos' mum has moved from accounts to support.

Then AV shall continue to be mocked. The company and website *is* a reflection of the game. AV fail the game will fail. the websiter makes large false claims and the game will be trolled. Like here at MMORPG.com where we have the right to mouth off .
These are not two exclusive variables. I again urge all fanbots to appeal to Lord Tasos to CHANGE the website. No really it is not that difficult infact some fan already did an edit and posted it on there forums. Oh wait that thread was locked (and later deleted?) Any fanbot care to discuss this ?
Now shall we talk about the quality of a game which appears to have no patch notes by it developers or roadmap ? Tee hee hee. DF isn't a good game it is average at best with PVP starved fanbots (five of them) loving it up and accepting any level of integrity (aka none) from AV. There website is just there to pull any other suckers in for a month because AV are needing of the monsies.
Sorry but AV and Tasos lie by omission. Hence the lack of transparency and disrespect to MMO fans and even DF fans.
There is no excuse for not updating it. Deleting the post that pointed out the corrections required (by a fan) suggested that they are purposeful in there deception.
Even if there was a modicum of desire to change it they would. Ergo they have no desire to change it to be factual. Mind you most of what they have to say seems to be wishful thinking. In Taco's latest announcement he makes all the right noises...but he has been doing that for years.
