Most MMO's die after they release a bad expansion pack.
Moria doesn't seem to have been well thought out. The instances were full of exploits. Book 7 was full of weak content (only took a day to complete all the new quests). The server problems and buggy software has gotten worse with each release. Sadly as much as I love the game, it is looking like it's time to start looking for something new.
Comments
Hmm, I haven't experienced many bugs, the server issues are kind of weird but those didn't begin until weeks after Moria was released. I love the expansion pack and my server has been seeing relatively significant queues over the past 2-3 weeks. So I would say no, it didn't kill LoTRo. I love the game, but I am always interested in new games too.
well i came back to the game after readign about moria. Yes many of the boss fights could be explotied if you wanted to. Thankfully they got rid of the expolites with bk7. ( would have been nice to have doen it sooner I agree). As for bk 7 well it was a free content so hard to compline if it took people a few days to get through it.
Magic is impressive, but now Minsc leads! Swords for everyone!
Well I think the point of book seven is it's free content that shoulda been in the game when moria came out, the nerf bat swings in book seven were terrible. As for the exploits in the game during moria some of those were nessicary just to get hard mode done. The devs really made the instances in a bad way in moria for that, you should make an dungeon crawl to reward skill and ingenuity not zerg rushing through it. I honestly think if anything is hurting lotro it is book 7 and all the things it screwed up.
What did it screw up you ask, well they nerfed dps to weaken the hunters but melee dps was nerfed more than ranged dps so hunters still pretty much more dps than everyone. They added new items for crafting but forgot to add components for criticaling those items. They added a faction that requires daylies like WoW to get kindred faction instead of the old factioning that required drop items. There are still items that have yet to drop in the moria loot table that were supposed to be there day one but never were added and still haven't been. To top it all off book 7 is the shortest book I've ever played since lotro came out, just felt like they rushed it to get lorien in the game to make people stop yelling at them for not having it there to begin with.
I love lotro I've played from day one, and will play until ToR comes out most likely. I have two accounts and ones a lifetime one, but I think they screwed up with moria by waiting to long to put it into the game. Free content is all well and good but when your max level and pvp sucks your kinda just spinning your wheels in new places grinding new faction.
Yeah moria killed lotro, this is why the size of my guild doubled and I see more people on. Moria was in now way a bad expansion pack, sure the instances need rebalancing and tweaking. But the pack didnt only consist of the instances.
Some people should really stop playing mmos if all they do is whine.
I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long.
I do not agree with the notion that book 7 is content that should of been with Moria. None of book 7's content was advertised, or spoken of when Moria was announced, or marketed to the public. It's free content that they've released just as they have with their many major additions prior to the Mines of Moria, and as they will continue to do for book 8, and so forth. Turbine has done an excellent job handling this MMORPG, that's why it is so popular. They are consistant with new additions to the game, and it's not all just fluff. It truely expands the game-world and the story, as well as adding new systems and/or mechanics to the game. I have yet to see a game or company that operates this well, and this effeciently, considering they could very well charge for this content, or wait to bundle it all up into expansion packs we have to purchase, and people probably would still pay for it.
I liked Moria. Eragion and inside the mines was more more fun than than any of the lower level zones.
I was able to complete all my crafting skills, raised all my virtues to the level 10 cap and maxed my faction with the Miners and Guards in Moria.
I have not played since Book 7, so it the experience may have changed.
I skipped the group and raid dungeons. By the time I was level 60 and ready for group dungeons, I had completed all my objectives except for the gear from the group dungeons. Every game has grinding for gear in group and raid dungeons as its end game content, and LoTRO is no different no different in this respect. I did a lot of grinding for gear in Everquest's group and raid content. At least Everquest had other objectives such as an almost impossible to reach cap for alternate experience levels. I just find games that get to a stage where the only way to improve your toon is to grind for gear are very one dimensional for objectives. I like to be achieving more than 1 objective, such as improving crafting, raising faction, gaining levels and skills as well as gaining gear. At the moment I am trying some other games and will play LoTRO again when the level cap is raised.
I had hours of fun in the Mines of Moria expansion and it was worth every cent.
LOL you guys... I'm sure this is an april fools thread..... I dont play LOTRO but from what I hear MoM was a HUGE success and I think book 7 introduced many fixes.. not more bugs.. and the poster is brand new... an alt.
Did you guys think this was serious?

Nomination anyone for worst original post ever?
This was his first post. Anyone smell a shill in the air?
Since MoM well really after book 12 in the original game the quality of the programming and support has gone down hill. There are exploits all over and some yet do exist, the anti-exploit system has fucked up in a big way. Nothing is more annoying then a mob stuck and you can't get the thing to respond and you all have to force log out. This is everywhere in any instance not just Moria, they screwed something up.
They made a new raid had to bring it down shortly after just releasing it because of the amount of problems with it. Now today they opened up an april fools quests had to bring it down cause of server load and now they can't even get the servers back up and functioning correctly.
Turbine used to be quality but now they are taking a shit dive straight to satan's asshole. Each book just brings more and more problems and less and less quality. It is apparent to me that the original team got shipped on a different title or next expansion for lotro within the company and a new team is taking dev on the updates and doesn't know the code all to well and now we get dog shit instead of supreme lobster.
No Lotro is not gonna die...anytime soon. Yes there are many problems (as I posted in the MMORPG LOTRO forums). Some more serious than others. Turbine will either fix the problems or let the game go downhill and there is no reason to go in that direction.
So you've never played the game and yet based on hearsay you think the expansion and book 7 is a huge success?
Are you serious?
No bugs? and all the current players are extremely happy with the content? Try playing the game or reading the lotro forums.
The expansion introduced the following:
1. Exploitable instances that allowed players to obtain raid required gear much faster than should have been possible. Turbine took their sweet time fixing these exploits. Several months after the expansion in book 7 did they finally fix the exploits. Too little too late.
2. The new MoM Raid, A Squid in a single room. This was a step down from previous raid content that involved huge dungeons with multiple bosses. The new Raid is now gated. Previous raid content could be accessed by anyone. Now players must grind instances for radiance gear in order to partake in the new Raid zone - room. This is a departure from Pre-MoM where anyone could basically partake in a Rift or Helegrod Raid.
3. Legendary Item System: this was advertised as unique, powerful weapons that would grow with the player. What the players got was an endless grind of trash legendary weapons that you level up, deconstruct, and grind again.
Book 7
1. They introduced another exciting Raid that involves a big turtle in one room. This was immediately exploited because the content was released without raid locks. No QA?
2. Shadows and Lighting effects were broken for many players with the release of book 7.
3. Increased occurrence of mobs going into Anti-Exploit mode. Hit a mob at ranged and it becomes unattackable all the while you are still in combat and have to dance around the mob to try and get it to attack.
4. The spring festival horse races were shut down because they were bugged. The April Fool's event was shut down because the servers couldn't handle it.
5. Lothlorien: Consists of a huge forest that you grind reputation to enter. Once you gain access you grind repeatable quests for reputation. The quests consist of exciting things like picking flowers, picking grapes, picking up wood, picking up stone, meditating in various spots, taking water to thirsty elves, singing at trees, and spotting the drunk elf.
Well, I'm not surprised it's gone downhill... they did FIRE members of the QA team. I'll let the fanboys say that it's normal though. Tried the free weekend, lasted 40 mins before I quit and uninstalled AGAIN. LoTRO lacks any type of innovation to make it interesting to someone who is looking for innovation.
Mines of Moria itslef was a great expansion but there are alot of issues and I think Turbine really needs to step up and get their act together now. They are getting sloppy and book 7 is in alot of way a dissapointment. Butt still better than anything else out there and I hope they get everything fixed with book 8
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

ROFLOL!
This is rather funny, considering most people playing give it rave reviews. I guess there will always be someone who dislikes something, but it seems the majority enjoy it. Also there has been a population boom since it launched.
The recent issues have been very atypical of turbine...so i have faith everything will be fine shortly.
*shrug*

actually you are wrong...it was shutdown because people would camp the spawn of the chickens and slay them before they even loaded...which in turn crashed the servers

I think Moria has increased server populations rather than "killed" it. HOWEVER quality and stability have really taken a downturn. I don't know if it they just aren't QA testing thoroughly, or if they downsized their dev staff. But to me it seems like the bugs and instability of the game are the worst it's ever been.
I'm not sure where the OP got this information. I wonder is he made this post sincerely.
MoM was a very solid addition to LOTRO. Which remains one of the best underplayed MMOs in the industry
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
I came back because of the Moria expansion. I think Turbine did a pretty good job with it and has expanded the game in a delightful direction.
This is my sig... nice huh? :P
If by "killed" LoTRO you mean "gave us a noticeable population boost," then yes...MoM killed LoTRO.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
There is a rumour floating around that Turbine hired SWG devs although I am unable to find ANY evidence of this.
As much as it probably isnt true, there are some worrying similarities to SWG.
1. The Hunter Nerf.
2. The ridiculous amount of bugs that have suddenly been introduced. This is very atypical of Turbine.
3. The continuous unnanounced downtime,
4. The rumours (that are being semi comfirmed by devs) that LotRo may go console.
5. The hiring of someone who is supposedly an RMT expert AFTER Steefel (I think it was him anyway) said there were no plans to introduce RMT.
1. Meh. Class balance complaints are a staple of MMOs. Everyone I know who *wasn't* a Hunter thought they were OP. Not much of an issue, IMO.
2. Agreed. I think as they release more content, the game gets more problems. And the content quality seems to be dropping too. I suspect they are understaffed, and this is my main concern.
3. (see 2. above)
4. That would be OK by me, if it generates more revenue they could hire more (enough?) developers.
5. They have repeatedly stated that the RMT ideas are for a future product, not LOTRO.

1. It is an issue as the highest class population on every server was/is Hunter. Class changes are fair enough but I'm guessing you dont know much about what they did with the hunter class, because there was nothing minor about it. Such massive changes should not be happening at this stage of LotRo's development. They were definitely a bit overpowered, but the nerf was way too extreme.
2 and 3. Agree to agree.
4. Wouldn't be ok by me because it will likely involve even more dumbing down and it will do an irrecoverable amount of damage to the PC playerbase (But who cares as long as it gets a month's worth of console player's $$ /sarcasm off).
5. Smedley said there would NEVER be RMT in EQ2. I dont think Steefel and company are that reprehensible but never say never.
Likewise, I came back for the same reason and the game is beautiful, both in looks and gameplay atm.
