I don't understand CCP's policy personally. I know Ill get attacked for posting this, but how can you possibly ban players for selling ISK when the company itself basically advocates this?
We don't know the full story behind the OP, but CCP will not let you purchase ISK for cash from a 3rd party ISK seller, you have to get it by trading GTC's for ISK with players. Its their game, they make money when people buy GTC's, so of course they're going to support that channel vs the other one.
Its just impossibly ridiculous to me, and from that point of view it seems CCP is very one sided on the issue, especially with the players being banned for not going through their outlet to get timecards.
True, its their game, and you must buy timecards from an approved reseller. Reason for this is many ISK selling vendors sell GTC's that are fraudulent or ill gotten. If the GTC is being sold below standard cost, you can be sure its a fraud.
Really, if anyone has any qualms about this issue it should be fairly obvious this company knows what they are doing by going after the people who are buying tons of timecards (even legally) to try and siphon more money from them because they are addicted to the game and after a GM puts your account into massive negative amounts and the only way to get back into the game is by buying crap from them.
I actually don't believe that they ban people who legally buy and trade GTC's for ISK. I know people claim it, I still don't believe them.
Seriously, none of you see anything wrong with this? I've never seen anyone banned from this game for ISK buying, selling, cheating, exploiting yes.
ER, actually I had a corp mate with 17 accounts who was macro farming and selling some ISK on the side. (no, he wasn't even Asian, worked right here in the US). Once they tracked him down, they definitely perma-banned him.) But you are correct, for normal ISK buying outside of approved channels they'll just take the ISK back.
One thing I don't like is if a friend gives you some ISK, and later CCP decides your friend got it illegally, they'll take it away from you too. I understand why they do it, but I don't like it. Makes you afraid to take gifts of ISK, I've actually turned it down just to be safe.
If you buy ISK though, you are a potential card buyer to them, so they won't ban you (you guys are using the term ban wrong here too, its called a suspension), no matter how many times the infractions.
True enough, the ban hammer is actually seldom used for ISK buying, they'd be crazy to do so.
This guy here should be a perfect example, not only did he likely buy ISK, but he contacts their reps and acts like a fool (cause they simply won't add 25 days to your ban just for laughs) He likely cussed or was acting like an ass to them and yet they didn't BAN him, simply suspended him for more days. Either way, its proof positive they aren't gonna ban you, but simply stick that hook out there for you to bite on again, except the hook is their company/game and you are the target addicted to the thing like crack.
I agree, the OP was probably abusive to the CSR's so they started adding up the suspensions.
CCP is right to protect their game and make sure they maximize their revenue streams. I'll even concede that sometime an innocent person gets swept up in the dragnet (more than one convicted murder has later been found innocent) but since we're talking about video games you have to chalk it up to "that sucks" and move on.

The basic problem you enter into on this is the problem with the ToS in general, the mmo game community have debated this abiguity for years. The question comes down to who really owns your account and has rights to do things to it, on the one hand the box says that it is your character to do with as you please. While in direct contrast the Terms of service agreement says the opposit. That all characters and everything else you make remains the intelectual property of the parant game company, to do with as they see fit in instances where they think the ToS has been violated. This is why some of your newer games don't have things like your character anymore anywhere in the language on the box, because companys don't want to deal with the nightmare of informed arguments.
For the most part your pretty much screwed if a game says you did it, cause well sadly even in america these days your guilty until you prove yourself innocent. Don't believe that go to court over something minor and plead not guilty when your not and watch the judge decide you are. So you would basically be required in any case like this to prove to the game politely that ya didn't do it. Which is something that borders on the impossible. As for the reast the OP has a valid frustration, he would like to know what he did wrong and see the proof of it, and I think he has the rights of it there. Also I think CCP should rethink their policy, if you have people who can sell these things, and people buy from them ones their not athorized to sell it shouldn't fall on the player. It's like buying a game before it's street date in the store, the store is a legitimate retailer, it is not up to the customer to know the street dates of items. You don't expect walmart to sell you a stolen radio, so you really got to think about it from another point of veiw. Lastly this forum post was pretty much open, people jumping on here and shooting down others valid points because their feelings are hurt simply by saying you shouldn't have posted here is a bit crass. An intelectual debate comes from makeing valid arguments for and against anything.
With that being said as a company I like CCP they do good work, and I am looking forward to their upcoming whitewolf mmo. I just think a person has a right to vent how they feel on any subject this is why this is called a forum, it's what their for.
2. You should never need to buy ISK (or gold, or whatever) to play. You already pay your monthly sub to play.
3. If you have to spend real money beyond the basic sub to have fun, then stop. You already pay a monthly sub to play, if the game's not fun at that point then unplug and spend your sub on icecream, or find a new game for your $14 per month and spend the extra real money on something better, like shoes.
4. Don't buy or sell ISK. Play the game, and if making ISK (or gold, or whatever) in the game is necessary but also no fun then go play something else. It's a game, not a job.
5. If the game is more a job than fun and you sell ISK, then you should contemplate what a gold seller is, because there is every chance CCP will see you as one and ban you, whether you like it or not.
I've played EVE for over three years:
I don't buy or sell ISK, never have, never will, don't need to.
Do I have the biggest most expensive ship? No.
Does that stop me having fun? No, besides bigger just means more expensive to replace.
Do I make ISK in EVE? Yes, more than I need. It's not hard, there are so many ways to play EVE you can make money in many, many ways. The problem for new players in EVE is that you have to actually think about things, making money is not just "macro farm whelplings".
Do I have fun in EVE? Yes, it's one of the few games left where you never know what will happen next.
Do I think CCP are liars, cheats, etc etc? No, they deliver on what I pay my monthly fee for. Indeed they don't make us pay for upgrades, so I like them much more than most of the game companies.
Do I think CCP can do no wrong when I think of other companies, such as Sony Online Entertainment and whoever it was who made Dark and Light? If you think CCP are bad for taking a hard line on enforcing their EULA well you might want to review your MMORPG history to see just how bad it can get ... :P
The reason they have a system for isk selling is not to make money, it is to discourage isk buying from 3rd parties. The reason that they want to discourage buying from 3rd parties has to do with how these 3rd parties acquire their isk.
If you think they are just macro farmers using normal payed or trail accounts then think again. Account hacking is the norm and when they do pay for accounts they are payed for with stolen credit cards, or with real cards where they after having received and used the game time they go to the bank and says they didn't receive the service. The bank issues a charge back and CCP won't get any money and get higher CC transaction fees and penalties from the bank in the future due to the large number of charge backs.
So please think again before using a 3rd party isk/gold seller service in any game in the future. These people won't think a second about hacking your account to steal the money back or use your credit card to pay for more farming accounts.
"Memories are meant to fade. They're designed that way for a reason."
There are too many grey areas with CCP's policieis which is why I will just stick with paying for EvE with real money whether via GTC or my credit card. There are too many headaches otherwise. I applaud CCP for putting in some legit system of buying and selling ISK, but it seems to be not entirely failproof. With as many players doing as many transactions as they do everyday, I wouldn't be surprised if a few end up on the wrong side of CCP in error. The problem is how the CSRs resolve the issue. They shouldn't automatically take the stance that the player is in the wrong if he appeals it as long as the player is not being rude. I can't comment on the OP's situation though because he didn't provide enough details.

This....
CCP isn't perfect, but they are definately one of the best MMO companies out there bar none. It's a shame some don't see this or if they do it's ignored in order to just be a douche, which seems to be the 'norm' for the net now a days.
OP, you may have purchased your timecards from ISK sellers instead of legitimate timecard vendors. If so, you probably got a discount price which should have been your first clue. I know people who bought ISK from sellers and only punishment they got was illegitmate ISK was confiscated. No ban, or other penalty. It sounds like you might have rude, hostile or abusive, hence they tacked on extra time on to your initial 7 day ban. Actually, in Iceland they probably don't have to be fair about their accusations, they can outright ban you and who can you really complain to? BBB of Iceland? I suspect there's more to the story.
I actually had a friend suffer the same fate. He bought his time codes from Shattered Crystal, the same place I get mine. They are authorised to sell them. Anyway he was buying them and selling at a lower isk cost to those in his corp as rewards for PVP and mining ops using the website tools. CCP said that because of the rate of his activity he was a ISK seller, stuck all his accounts billions in the negative and refused to discuss the issue with him. The only way he can play now is to buy hundreds of dollars of time codes, sell them online at market rate.
I have no problem banning people for buying ISK outside of the process but I do take issue with CCPs extreme lack of transparency in dealing with the situations. They wont talk to you or allow you to apeal the issue. Your only chance to get your account back to a positive status is to buy MORE timecodes and trade them for ISK on their own website.
If they are going to charge you with a TOS voilation they should be able to provide proof and allow for an apeals process.
In another case, a corp mate was killed by a person using an exploit. When he reported the exploit, CCP actually banned him. He had escalated the issue to a senior representative because he felt that the primary agent didnt help him. This was all before they put in the new player advocates but there has been a long history of stories like this. EVE has cheaters and lying CSRs running rampant. Unfortunately some of the largest perps are actually the Devs. Its quite well known if you follow the game history or forums much.
Being that it is their game and all, dont expect any sympathy from CCP. It is their sandbox and they will do as they like and they do! They have a legacy of not giving a shit about the players, esp since subs jumped.
Pretty much the reason I will never be paying these guys money again.
The game has such potential. But the devs are such douches. They SEEM nice, but this kind of thing continually happens. Over and over again.
Don't get me wrong. The game was fun sometimes. (Gate camping for 5+ hours for zero profit is not, but to each his/her own) I'm not knocking the sandbox idea. I loved the idea and implamentation of a real PvP sandbox.
What I didn't love were the devs taking a direct hand in how the war(s) were going. Not with balance, but with underhanded crap.
That was more than a year ago. I'm glad that all you players still in-game have others to play with, but it blows my mind that you are actually willing to pay money to such an obviously decietful company.
But again, to each his/her own. At least it isn't WoW I guess.

Yeah. Umm... in the 3 years that I have been playing this game, I have never heard of someone being banned for "buying isk." At least not for buying isk once, twice, or even three times and being caught.
Someone actually purchased a Titan with bought isk, and he just had the ship taken away.
So if you were "banned" for this, rather than just having the purchased amount taken from your wallet (this is what usually happens), you probably have been caught doing this numerous times. More than 3 certainly. Either that or you were actually caught *selling* isk.

anyone saying otherwise is an idiot, a liar, a fanboi, or, well, stupid beyond words. and that's based on ONLY the things ccp has admitted to over the years, which has been a lot for anyone in null sec, or following happenings in nullsec.
It doesn't matter so much if you don't play in 0.0. Most of the playerbase doesn't play in 0.0...
I'm being facetious by the way.
Back in EvE. Started with BatMUD. Main MMOs have been EvE and DAoC.
one guy cheated and was fired.
a department was set up to prevent repeats.
people still whine and claim ccp support the alliance that just had all their space taken. god you people are trolls.
Yeah. Umm... in the 3 years that I have been playing this game, I have never heard of someone being banned for "buying isk." At least not for buying isk once, twice, or even three times and being caught.
I guess you could just be a troll too.

Glad to see that something awful has a presence here as well. I read this as a typical goon statement.
"Eve suckz! CCP cheatz!11!!!"
All the while you probably have 5 accounts and have been playing for 3 years.
sooo t20 was fired today? link?
that department isn't doing too great of a job.
sorry that you have no clue whatsoever of what you're talking about. that would be YOU trolling.
grats.

thanks for proving my point.
i find it incredibly sad, that people in today's age, ignore plain ole facts. not only ignore them, but argue like the people supporting the facts - are liars and/or stupid.
says a lot about people.

or, he was pissed off when he spoke with ccp, and being the girly-men that they are, they banned him in a hissy fit "how dare he be angry at our ass-hattery!"

I have yet to see any hard facts.
Oh, and your opinion doesn't count as a fact, nor does hearsay.
But hey, whatever. Who gives a rat's ***. I like the game.
