I like it all. I probably would have had a harder time getting started if I hadn't been such a Warcraft Lore fanatic. The thing I found more enjoyable in my week of play was definitly instances. The concept of them sounds alright, but once you get a group that is not only good, but fun to be with, nothing out there in the gaming industry even compares. Plus, all I did was the Westfall instance and it took like 3 hours...and that's a SHORT instance.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Short, to the point, and so true.
I'm still trying EQ2 for a few days during the WoW downtime and the more I play it, the more I hate it. Dull, boring, and zero fun. Don't know how else to explain it. Trying to find the original people who gave you the quests is sometimes like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Everything seems to have a "choppy" effect to it.
WoW on the other hand seems to have taken all the frivilous, tedious, and boring elements out of MMORPGs and just kept in the fun. They did it so well.
Not only that, but the amount of detail they put into this game is incredible. It's the little things that I see that have me truly impressed.
Cat paw prints in the snow, dust particles filtering through beams of light in a cave, a stone crafter crafting a statue, ground shaking as the huge Ancient Guardians walk by you, the steam coming out of certain gnome creations. I could go on and on...
Female gnomes dancing and doing the /train had me rolling on the floor the first time I saw it done. I was cracking up laughing at the sounds and animations.
The music is captivating. Very well done. Every score seems to fit the theme of the zone. I think this is one of the few games I've played where I actually DON'T turn off the music. I really like how the music in the various taverns seems to grow louder as you approach and diminish as you walk away.
A beautiful, fun world has been created. Bravo Blizzard.
I think blizz have done with MMORPGs what they did with RTS and RPGs. They've made it fun and accessible to everyone. In WoW there's a place for RPers, PvPers, n00bs, kiddies, casual gamers, hardcore gamers, grinders, questers and crafters. If I left something out, WoW is accessible to that as well.
The game has a VERY consistant feel and look. I found myself gawking at the screen when I saw how well gnomes actually DID fit into the game. Before playing I had thought gnomes were the thing that could spoil WoW for me. They didn't - In fact I liked whacking every last one of those buggers with my orc. I found nothing that looked out of place in the whole 46 levels I ground through the stress test and the OB. There was a huge amount of diversity in monsters, architecture and NPCs to be found, but nothing looked out of place. Everything looked just fantastic, sometimes even breathtaking. The storyline is quite something as well: It's a rugged and ruthless world where nobody's perfect and things almost always go from bad to worse. The alliance: The night elves are run by a rather heartless priestess, the humans by an inexperienced and nowhere near perfect king, the dwarves by someone who took part in a genocide against his own kind, the gnomes by a leader who allowed them to blow their own city up with an experimental weapon of mass destruction. The horde: The orcs and tauren are run by William Wallace type leaders who both have their weak points. The trolls dont seem to be that organised(thrall's footpads you could call them) and the forsaken are run by a vengeful undead elf and a dreadlord (ex demon lieutenant). You never know who's the good guy and who's evil.
The immersive game world is what, from my experience with playing it, EQ2 lacks. The design on some of the monsters and the architecture just takes my breath away... but... Frogloks, micemen, trolls that look like utter rubbish, humans and elves with faces that look like they've been left in the oven to bloat... I just can't forgive that to a game that rides highly on a "great/unique graphical look". I must admit those who play eq2 have a great devotion to the lore and background behind it to play a game with such a flawed polish to it's look. If you just keep telling yourself "now that pastry and shiny faced human is what I call good graphics" eventually it will become your definition of good graphics. I don't exactly understand the devotion to the storyline and game world either. The storyline in EQ2 just sounds a bit naive to me: Fight for an overpoweringly good and beautiful 20something princess or for an evil dictator who's lived forever and has a cliched "imthebadguy" look and name.
For WoW the consistency of graphical and storyline developement as you go along immerses you to the world and makes you want to play it. This is exactly what set Warcraft III apart from the rest of the RTS crowd. It had an excellent and immersive plot. As for EQ2 it's the devotion and commitment to the EQ franchise that immerses people into it (or the fact that they haven't tried WoW yet). I'm not saying the gameplay is better or worse, I'm saying the feel is.
Nicely spoken everyone and I hope you keep those thoughts coming!! I especially like Centhan's last post. I agree with you 100% bro. The details make the game so much more..... Impressive? Appealing? Addictive?? Thats it, addictive! I cant wait to see what changes Blizzard will have waiting for us on Tuesday!!

Im not basing blizzards CS on the beta. Im basing it on Blizzards record. They still update and fix issues with Wc3 a game that is 2+ years old. I dont know if you ever played diablo but thats annother great reference on their Customer service record. They fix game problems immediately. If you have a problem in game they help you as best they can. SOE on the other hand still hasnt fixed issues from Launch on SWG. If you try to talk to a CS representative you get a pre-written responce that 9/10 times has nothing to do with your problem. I dont know anyone that was bragging about L2 CS. Cause from my memmory it was pretty piss poor during beta. Bottom line Blizzard has the best Customer service. Always has. Always will. Companies like SOE dont care about their players. As CSR-Brian from SWG told me "We just want you to buy the game subscribe for 2 months and then we could care less." They got what they wanted from me. But never again.
I pre-ordered 2 copies of WoW; one for me and one for my wife.
I have friends that are die-hard EQ fans that were looking forward to EQ2. A few of them got into the beta and ended up quitting playing. All of them are going into WoW.
I've hard derrogatory comments on the quests. That is stupd. It's like complaining that McDonalds doesn't seel hotdogs. Well, if you want a hotdog don't go there. If you don't like quests then don't do them; nothing says you *have* to.
So far the only requirement I've seen that force you to do a quest is to get your pet or get your shapeshift power as a druid.
Some have called the crafting system "brain dead". I played HZ in open beta and for about 4 months post release. Comparing the 2 crafting systems is easy; HZ was work, WoW isn't. It's more fun. It's not as micro-managed as HZ. I never did crafting in EQ2 so can't comment. Though, my wife did and all I heard her do was grumble, get frustrated and get ticked off. In Wow she never did.
My take on WoW is that it's currently the best game out there that I want to play.
I was wondering if your wife has a sister or friend equally involved with MMORPG's?
I am 25 and in FL.
Hey it couldnt hurt right? lol
Well I am going to have to say this about WoW. It does bring family and friends together. HAH!
I only ordered 1 copy though but it is the collector edition. So I am looking forward to the exclusive pet (probably the panda) that I will get. I just cant stop talking about this game...... (does that make me a loser?)

It's hard to compare the online part of a company, with the offline part, too. IMO:
Sony = Greatest non-MMO gaming company ever(Playstation). Sony Online Entertainment = Worst MMO gaming company ever.
And hell, if WoW's management/CS will be just like Diablo's, then we should expect tons of exploits?

Gnomes are sssssooooooooooooo Cute.
I just love it how they can kill massives groups of orks and still keep a smile on there cute little (sometimes fuzzy unshaven) faces
