It really borders on abject stupidity. No game genre is as unforgiving on the dev team as the MMO. It is just an incredibly hard thing end to end. Can an indy director make a great movie? Yes. But can they make The Watchmen? No. Same concept. A lone schmuck with a dream isnt going to give you your Startrek Holodeck (that so many seem to desperately want).
The reason Dark and Light, Horizons, Vanguard, Shadowbane and on and on and on and on all have the EXACT same story as Darkfall is because there are people who DESPERATELY are seeking some kind of alternate existance in a game and are drawn LIKE FLIES to the MMO genre (obviously) They just cant accept that the technology isnt there and that even if it were, the economics arent there because MOST PEOPLE are just not that hung up on so badly NEEDING that level of escapism. But what IS out there are enterprising producers (scamsters in some ways) who KNOW that by putting up a promise laden website, a bunch of hyperbole, a pile of Photochops and a forum, they WILL attract a fanbase. Enough fans and they make actually get some VC from some idiot who hasnt learned yet. Then they can get on the road to FAIL.
This isnt about "lazy devs" at all. Its about unrealistic expectations from a tiny market segment that is almost BEGGING to be taken advantage of.
If any of the features on the list were IN DEMAND and were REALLY doable WoW would have them. Love that game or hate it, only a real moron would deny that Blizzard has the wealth and power (AND control over their destiny) to do ANYTHING currently technologically possible IF there were enough demand for it.
The fact is, most games like Darkfall promise "The Matrix" and end up being virtual serial killer simulators for the handful of bottom feeders that get off on that due to various psychological problems that they have and have yet to confront in RL. What else COULD they be??? Like "Tasos" is going to be the guy that builds Skynet level AI on 6 figure VC funding. LOL, yeah ok.
Epic reality right there. QTF.
I agree. EA, SoE, Square/Enix, and Turbine are all slumming it. Blizzard should rule the world.

Ah ah... not so fast.
There are conditions to that.
- You must love DF and believe it's the best thing to ever hit the MMO market, ever.
- You must express no criticism of it and/or must fiercely spin, make excuses for or outright deny any legit issues that are brought up.
- You must speak in broad generalizations about how amazing the game is, but never - ever - give specifics when asked. If you are, you must ignore the post, or move to a different thread.
If you don't abide by those guidelines, then you're nothing but a "trolling, WoW playing hater who can't handle a game like DF". Even people playing it aren't excused from it.

Whats with the defense about no "lore" in the game? Because its a pvp game, it shouldnt have lore or deep quests? Also, if you believe that EVE has no lore, you may need to look at their website closer. EVE is a free for all pvp game but it has numerous stories and explanations for lots of happenings in the game. It also has quests and the like, while not as good as the pvp, but at least are there. It would appear that Darkfall is pvp with no lore or deep quests.
I understand what you're saying, I do, but I still don't think the gamer delivered as promised. To me it's just a clunky, watered down test version of a game that could have been a lot better. I guess it's really the only thing like it to recently be released and be on the market right now though so the standards just aren't there and there's not much basis for comparison. And the macroing is a huge issue which I see you don't seem to care about but it is like it or not and that is a very gamebreaking issue for me personally. So, thank you for the posts, I understand where you're coming from, but I still don't think the it's not my cup of tea argument is the real issue at work here as the game has serious flaws which may or may not be able to be corrected via patching. However, if you like it, good for you. pvp combat, sieging, etc. is only a part of a whole that a game should be and is definitely not enough to keep me playing, especially considering the state it's in in Darkfall. To say that it's great because of that only is disregarding a large percentage of the game which frankly just didn't make it into the final product, either because it was cut or is too unimportant and/or flawed to matter.
Macro'ing may be easy to set up, but it's not easy to maintain. If you AFK macro, you pretty much are asking to get killed and have all your resources taken.
The only thing you can really safely macro, is Mana Missle and Heal Self. That's it.

Well that's another strange thing about DF that I've yet to really see a clear stance on - the presence of Lore in the game (I know there's lore on the site; I've read it). It's something I'm particularly interested in when playing a game... it helps establish my character's place in the world and gives meaning to what they're doing beyond "just doing it".
However, with the subject of lore, the response you get seems to depend on how it's brought up.
For example: (these aren't direct quotes, but pretty a pretty good paraphrase of such arguments)
Example A: Someone criticizes the lack of lore in the game:
- Critic Argument: "There is no lore in this game. It's nothing but a pointless gankfest. A FPS with levels"
- Fan Response: "It's a hardcore PvP game, not a PvE themepark. If you want a storyline, go play your kiddie WoW. DF isn't for you"
Example B: Someone acknowledges lore being in the game, but criticizes its quality and/or overall lack of relevance to the gameplay:
- Critic Argument: The lore in this game is just weak. It serves no purpose what-so-ever.
- Fan Response: "Obviously you aren't playing DF and are just trolling. DF has better lore than your kiddie WoW does."
(Also note: A frequent element of a DF fan's rebuttals to any criticism is to label the critic as a WoW player - even lacking any indication they actually play. I'd argue they've overused the statement so much, it's worth less than the US Dollar at this point).
You can see the basic contradiction between the two fan responses. Interestingly, both sides of that argument have been voiced by some of the same people.
So basically - like with everything else to do with DF - the fans would contradict themselves or flip-flop a hundred times a minute if possible, so long as their response is always in favor of DF.

The only truly amazing thing to me is how often this pathetic trend repeats. Its just mind boggling that people like Tasos can continue to win such large numbers of naive people who actually believe that one lone dreamer can produce "the MMO the world has NEVER SEEN"
