not too sure atm.. worried about constant griefing and endless instancing combined with a lack of community (friends, grouping etc)

but its complelling indeed, the combat system is fun to use (melee) which is something I havnt seen in a mmo till now. I mean buttom mashing is gettin a little old by now. Also I like the world, the constant swearing and the rotten bastards in it (NPC's)

graphic wise its a huge dissapointment though, I expected better but its ok I guess (high res/high settings)

    Time will tell

Graphic wise I thik the game is quite good (Dx10test), though there are still some glitches. Also  I am not sure either to sub or not.

I don't think I'll sub. Apart from the comabt, which is still really button mashing, there's very little else to set it apart from other MMO. The graphics are good when I put AA on mine (HD4870 - windowed 1600x1050) I get quit a bit of lag and spluttering so I need turn it off again.

Although there's no elves, it's still just another fantasy MMO.

I havent had any problems with performance and used the same settings as you did, but with a 8800 Gt.

i think it goes on the test server in the next few days but dont quote me on that but its a huge patch dealing with a lot of itemization along with other things but honestly i am not super knowledgeable on it. some people here probably know more details on it than me. i am just playing the trial for the first time right now so dont know too much about the game.

  • bartillobartillo Member UncommonPosts: 190

I do believe this patch is the one where they will be redoing all the stats on all the items as well as making Gems useful again.

  • AmazingAveryAmazingAvery Age of Conan AdvocateMember UncommonPosts: 7,188

Yep the patch (some of it is already on the test server) it will go through lots of testing and there are lots of little issues with it already and some things that make sense and are excellent - such is the nature of the test sever. It could be anywhere from 5-10 weeks on there before being deployed live into the game (my personal rough estimate of timeline)

I'm really enjoying it atm. I'd say that more than likely I will sub.

Why speculate when you admittedly don't know? You have a long history of complaining about people proffering inaccurate information, why perpetuate more of it?

Hope the trial will up the subscription base for the game since it is going in the right direction. Even dogh I would like funcom to have pushed trials after patch 1.05:)

There are a whole slew of nasty words I'd like to say to you...

but anyway...to those concerned about instancing...it gets a lot better when you enter the real world. The zones are much bigger than Tortage. Granted, I haven't gotten very far out of Tortage yet, but Khopshef is a pretty big zone.

I don't know how you can really be disappointed in the graphics. They are up there as some of the best, if not THE best. I think LotRO is it's only real competition.

If you are looking for something drastically different, AoC will not be for you.

I don't know.  I REALLY want to like this game.  I love Conan and Robert E. Howard.  I'm looking for a new Mmorpg, as I"m tired fo WAR.

But.....so far it hasn't hooked me to pay money. It doesn't feel very MMORPG'ie.  It feels like a solo questiong game.  Throw in the fact that I understand the end-game is totally non-existing, so I'm still on the fence.

I really do like the graphics.  I like the non-cartoony feel.  I like that I feel I've stepped into a Robert E. Howard story.  I like the combo-system.  What little grouping I've done so far, has me encouraged, as I feel the game change with a good group....even a small group.

I'm waiting to see what happens outside of Tortage.

Really enjoying the game so far, might sub; have to see things outside of Tortage for myself, though.

grouping makes this game SOOOOOOO much more fun.

If you can find a good leveling partner...you will be set.

Endgame: PvP in Kesh, Dungeons, Raids, PvP XP, Sieges, Crafting/Gather mats for your guilds city, RP, mini-games

    Upcoming: Tarantia Commons (PvP zone)

Make of that what you will. I haven't reached Endgame yet either, but my suggestion is this: Find a partner and pick a zone that fits your style. Read the quest text/listen to the voice overs.

It goes a long way towards making your experience better.

    Rushing = BAD!

EDIT: forgot to mention mini-games. Probably more that I'm forgetting too...

you sound like me with WAR. i am currently playing WAR and have had a lot of fun playing it but man i dont know how many BOs and Keeps i can keep taking lol. i am playing the trial and i am actually loving AOC right now and will definitely subscribe even if i do get bored at end game it will be worth it to me. i agree with you on the graphics and combat system too. i dont play as much as some people do on here because of other things i do, so getting to level 80 will keep me occupied for a while.

Tortage is very small compared to the rest of the game.  Khopshef is not really that big IMO.  Now Convalls valley on the other hand just keeps on going and going.  The ymirsh mobs will make you party up so the solo part will stop with those quests.  Lots and Lots of pvp there.  Sneaky peeps everywhere there.  I have played a lot of mmos and teh graphics on AOC are prob the best for a land based game.  I played the game at release joined a big guild but there where so many bugs I stopped playing.  I have been playing again for about a month and have been having a blast at it.

I really dont understand why people think there is no endgame, most of the server is made up of lvl 80s and they are always online raiding, sieging, dueling/group pvping, rping... and they have had thess characters for months and months

I have been playing the trial for four days now and just got off the rock. I have found AoC to be impressive with little problems. It has given me that same immersion that guild wars did with the first 20 levels and as I enter the new world I am unsure about subscribing. I will have to see how the pvp turns out before I make my decision however, I am leaning towards giving it a month. As has been mentioned I also grow tired of the cartoony thing from other mmorpg’s.

I'm feeling the same way. I was disappointed  when I didn't get in on the beta. Then I was gun shy about purchasing due to all the negative release comments. Now that I've been in the trial, I just don't know. I just don't know, lol.

    I'm the same way....not sure....or prolly not.

I find it interesting the MMOs today still think that all the mobs have to be randomly walking about here and there in any/every setting. Instead of having them blend in nicely to their proper surroundings. Scorpians wandiring with snakes and crocs all in one small path. Tigers and Panthers wandering with pirates (or picts?) in the same area yet only attacking PCs.....just seems so out of place.

Some MMO has to get the geology/goegraphy/wildlife right sometime....

End game content consist of 6 raid instances, 3 group instances so for PvE the end game is far from non existing. Compare to WoW when they were 1 year AoC have more raid instances then WoW had back then if I recall correct. ;) Tortage does feel a bit like solo player, and originally it was meant to be a solo player part as an introduction to the game. The game will change once you leave tortage and start to venture out in the other zones.

Grouping is a thing that makes the game fun, if you find some people to group up with and do the instances in epic mode that can be quite challenging, you will also be able to get better reards from boss mobs etc. Tortage doesn't really make the use of groups that useful, sure it makes things easier, but grouping outside tortage can be good fun. AoC isn't a game that fits everyone like any other MMO some people will love it some will hate it, best thing you can do is play the game you prefer and try out things. As you say grouping does make the game more fun. :)

Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC)
    On my radar: TSW, MO
MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside
MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom

  • This game is unfinished and very crash prone. Just read some of the Age of Conan forum messages left by players and now mostly former players on the state and quality of this game. It would be nice to see some basic editorial investigation by this online game review instead of blindly posting game company news advertisements.

Thanks for the nice replies.   I've found on Amazon the game for about $10, which would include that first month. For that price I might give the game a longer look.

One of the things I like about MMORG's is exploring the world.  Sometimes, just walking around is fun, and the reason this works for me in a MMORG and not in a solo-rpg is when I see other players or play with them.  It's that small factor that makes the world go from static with all the NPC's standing in one spot, to alive.  I might give the game a month...just to explore. And AoC is pretty enough to just look around at.

I'm encouraged to see there is end-game content, and that they are trying to make at least some of it player generated, and player affected content.  Building a keep, suppliing a keep, defending a keep.  I understand this is all pretty raw, but it's there, and with potential to be added to.

Another reason I'm leaning towards subing, is I have a feeling this game is pointed in the right direction.  Patches seem to add and to fix things.  And I don't want to bash a game, but the one I'm coming from WAR which is in better shape then AoC in many ways atm, seems to be breaking things.  Each "fix" leaves the game more broken and the changes seem forced.

I think that AoC's set up of design, seems to be a good base to grow from, and add to.  There is also a key design difference that I think is huge: In AoC the end game PvP (I'm on pve server, no way do I find ganking or being ganked entertaining), is not based on a realm, but rather around guilds/player groupings.  While players may say their class isn't as good as other classes, there are the same class on the other side of that fight with the same problems.  In WAR, even the slightes variance in "mirrors" throws the entire game to one side.  (or you can have EXACT mirros like WoW).

The Feat trees look complex.  I'm hoping this leads to many different flavors of characters in the same class.

I could be wrong...I'm still on the island.  If my conceptions are wrong...let me know.  (posters on the internet can be so shy)
