What is the price of the actual game? I obviously know you have to pay 15 dollars a month, but I'm also assuming you have to buy a copy of the game digitally, and I want to know what that costs.
I've got some bad news for you. Darkfall is 50 bucks (or there abouts, it's like 32 euro which is about 50 american dollars). Although the store says "temporary offline" , in actuality, it's very rarely online. So, don't be surprise if you have trouble buying a copy.

NOt sure where the outrage over price is based. Last several mainstream MMOs were all ~ $50. Unless there is a substantial difference between $49.99 and $50.00 that I am unaware of. Darkfall may not be of the quality of other recent mainstream releases (WAR/AoC) but noone should be surprised at the price. Seems pretty standard

They are charging a premium price for a not so premium service. Typically, indie games are much cheaper than their mainstream counterpart.

Actually, you're right. I lied. I did pay $50 for WAR...that actually is a decent arguement to use against my self for spending the $50 on DFO. =p
Also, I just registered on the account thing so that I can order it when the shop is open, and this is what my confirmation e-mail said.
Eh, $50.00 is kind of steep when you're a college student, hehe. After reading that article regarding politics I actually wanted to give this game a shot. I guess I'll think about it.
If politics is all you're interested in, why not wait for Earthrise, Mortal Online, or play an existing sandbox like EVE? Why would you want to risk money on something with mixed reviews? /shrug, your choice I suppose. That'd be my advice though.

I do play EVE online. Not as much as I did when it launched, but I still play it.
And its obviously not all politics, but they add flavor to PvP.

Yep, another example is their outdated site... pathetic...

Just made me laugh, really. Was not meant to be insulting them.
Yes. Because the game is in beta, as is made clear by their official site.
Ohh really its Beta? and you say "As is made clear by their official site"
I sure dont see any clear notice its in beta.. i do find info like this on the site
The date of the Darkfall European commercial release has been pushed back to February 25th, 2009
And if its in beta as you say.. why do you have to pay for it?
Would this be considered irony?
Lol, priceless!
Too funny, my new sig now, thanks Ropet! Also, thanks for making your 6th post in over 3 years of membership on the forums. I can't wait to hear your next comment in 6 months!
Good grief... I REALLY REALLY have to try hard not to be vengeful here.
Aww shucks... who cares.
Ok, rewinding the time ~10+ years. Back then, many many PC games weren't translated or severly cut so you had to import them and Dollar was STRONG. It always brought tears to my eyes, paying the equal of 70 Dollars and more for a game I wanted. Due to 1 to 1 Dollar to Euro conversion at STEAM and even in many stores, we Europeans still usually pay considerably more for games from US than you do.
So when ONE TIME you have to be in the position we Europeans have been for decades of computer gaming, excuse me for being evil but...
CRY ME A RIVER!
Wow, now I feel better. Evil is really good.

LOL Hey be nice
Even if 6 months didnt pass i will make some comments :P
Honestly.. i didnt follow all the drama that hit Darkfall and im not the kind that needs to comment on all posts.. but i was a tad insterested in Darkfall like many others so i started reading up a bit..
So i read on the Darkfall site that its open for public. But just for a selected audiance.. honestly whats that all about.. either its ready for public or you have a open beta and its free.. until its not beta! Mind you it was not easy to find this info.. you get redirected to the forum for news. Bit odd but hey its there call.
So what really is the reason they dont let more people give them money? Poor staff that cant handle the masses? Poor game design that will get a overhaul down the road? Financial problems? We can speculate as much as we like..
One thing is for sure.. somethings not right here. If you develop something for 8 years and make a commercial release like this it sure smells wrong.
Its like bulding a house that takes years.. and the last thing you put in is the totaly wrong door.. well in this case there aint a door to be found..lol
For all playing and having fun.. keep having fun.. just be honest to yourself.. am i really having fun. Its not like you own them anything.
One final comment.. Full loot aint anything if gear dont matter.
- This are my views and in no way am i trying to apply it as general views -

Just having a little fun, sorry about that. Most people are very aware of what happened with DF on this forum. You ask a lot of good questions and make good points. That is why I watch this forum, to see why they didn't build the door and also to watch the people that were already in the house as they finished the last wall without a door act to the people outside, confused. If that makes sense...

In the background of all those politics you read about in that article that got you wanting to play is a lot of cheating going on. I'd first think about that as non cheaters/exploiters are just pissing against the wind in this game.

STAY AWAY!
thought you said darkfall was your life!! OMG!
The hell? Its $50.00?
I don't think I have EVER payed $50.00 for any MMO I've ever played. Guess I'll wait until the price drops or the game dies.
They don't seem to care what you, me or anyone else thinks. Or whether we ever buy it.
But regardless, 50 bucks or thereabout is small change.
