WoW, I congratz Tasos for doing something no other company would dare to do. I mean I was sick and tired of seeing retarded names like LIELIIEKLE or IIIIJLLLIFH. They exist in every MMORPG, and normally are not penalized.
Did you stop to consider, that Lieliiekle might sound like a good name to someone who doesn't speak English as his native tongue and is trying to make up a name wich wouldn't already be in use?
While I agree that MMOs should have rules against completely unpronouncable names like IIIIJLLLIFH, I'm glad that you aren't the one making up those rules because you'd ban also players who have had good intentions and created a name wich sounds good in their native tongue.
I'm not very suprised that regardless what kind of shit Tasos says, there are always people who are defending it.
As people were complaining about hackers in the game, the fanbois stated there were no hackers or max 1 guy in the game who cheated and he was already banned. Now that Tasos found out he does not like some names because they confuse his GM's (lol), everyone with a confusing name is put under general suspicion for being a cheater and forced to delete his character. Who will know which name is confusing and which isn't, this will depend on the arbitrariness of Aventurine or single GM's. Really, this is incompetent as much as I can imagine for a service that you have to pay for.
And no its not only IIIlliill that should delete his character its even MitcheII .
Strange thing is that if there are so few cheaters it wouldn't have been a problem to find these hackers with strange names but as this seems to be worth a forum post for the otherwise silent guy, it looks like that hacking is a major problem in the game.
All arguing aside, this will probably affect maybe 2% or less of the total population of the game. Then you have to ask yourself out of that 2%, how many of those are legit players? I can't think of anyone I know or in any guild I have allied with (been through (2-3 alliances) who had a name that would even be remotely close to being hit by this policy.
paragus1, you have a number in your name. That is unacceptable for MMORPG forums. Please stop using this account and make a new one, with an acceptable name.
That is all.

This is one of the best points in this discussion. Has anyone even considered that those names may mean something in other languages?
How about these names:
PRST,SLNKO,SLILI,SPLILI - they all look weird in lower case prst, slnko, slili, splili
But they ALL mean something in a foreign tongue. Would AV ban those legit names too?

In 48 hours characters with names made in an effort to confuse GMs and other players, for example adding a string of lower cap L’s and upper case I’s (IlIlIIIl) in their names will start getting their host accounts permanently banned. If you have a character like that, delete him and make a new one with a proper name.
Here is a picture for future references if they erase this thread:
Don't permanently ban someone because you have no clue how to code a way into your system to be able to rename their character's names... DON'T PERMANENTLY BAN SOMEONE FOR YOUR INCOMPETIENCE!
It is lame why just not warn someone and ask him to change it.

Apparently, there is a native of the Amazonian jungle someplace who just happened to stumble across a computer, the internet, and Darkfall and found all the other names taken in his native language, so he made up this name.

Most likely, he means "legit" as in "possible to exist within the game", not legit as in acceptable. That's why it's flawed, just because no one has ever made a name like that doesn't mean someone never will.

But what I'm really asking is have you seen it in a MMO? If not, then your point is moot, since you cant get banned out of real life. IF you have seen a name like that in-game, then I am disproven and there is no further argument.

Well isnt the whole point of banning names because they are "bad" ? That means you have to see the name to ban it. So if you see that name, it is automatically legit, according to your logic that is. Or am I missing something? Cuase this is circular logic.
