DF, now with starter weapon nerf.

LongsnoutLongsnout Member Posts: 116

 Yesssss,

They did it. They removed the ability to increase weapon skills with starter weapons. Now all we need is a magic nerf and the new players will never ever advance!!!!

As oppose to letting the naked orgy around clanstones continue to raise weapon skill....

And this also allows people to have to go out with at least some kind of minimal risk.

Yes it sucks that some people are ahead of others, but eventually we will all be there, and this is a change that needed to happen.

Definitely much better than allowing it to continue.

Wow are you guys this desperate to find something to grab onto and bash the game?

Weapons drop off of almost every mob in the game, and cost 30 gold or less.  The positives far outweigh the negatives.   Do you even play the game?

  • alf2oooalf2ooo Member UncommonPosts: 139

    Great patch.

  • Vince_GVince_G Member Posts: 85

omg you will actually have to kill a mob and take his weapon , buy one for 20 gold, or make your own.. Darkfall is ruined.

I was wondering in the other thread after the "skilled based game but takes no skill to play it" comment: what will the whiners come up with next?

Alas, I was not dissapointed. A naysayer comes up with a great spin on the events and apparently DF sux even more.

    What faliure

This was a positive post with some sarcasm sugarcoating.

But good to see that the Darkfall Defence Force is up and running.

And btw, no, you will never catch up with me, I haxed way to much and got way to far!!!!

that is actually good news. DF is all about open PvP with full loot. This way you are encouraged to wear your regular weapon and this way people do not feel frustrating for killing u and not finding anything worthy. The naked army with starter weapon was not a good thing.

Just when I thought AV actually fixed something..

The problem people have with starter weapons is that you can pvp fairly effectively with your starter weapon.  Yes, you are at a slight disadvantage, but if you lose, you lose nothing.  Every single red I've ever encountered was naked with a newbie weapon.   You kill them almost every time, but you get nothing.  When they get lucky and kill you, they get everything.

The problem with newbie weapons was that they do to much damage compared to 'real' weapons.

AV fixed something that wasn't the real problem with starter weapons.

The "fanbois" are overprotective, thin skinned and insecure.

DF is so hardcore it brings out the worst in people in the forums AND in game.

If anything, starter weapons should be PvE-only or they should start you in a PvE-only small zone, to be able to kill some mobs, and pick up a non-starter weapon. If the above is true, it sounds like they only "fixed" half the problem.

I think there shoulld be some sort of limit on starter weapons such as if your account is more than 2 weeks old your stater weapons no longer stay with you. It might not be much but at least they would be risking somthing.

Besides gaining skill with your newbie weapon, how does this change the way PKs in DF will operate? Did they change the damage they do or...? What if they are max skill already. It would mean nothing to them. This basically seems like a nerf for newbies but not the PKs.

During my first 2 hours in the game with just my starter polearm and another newbie in my party, I killed a guy in banded armor and looted everything.

Then I proceeded to lure my party member into the sea and killed him also while he was on his last leg .health wise ,and looted him also and his weapons.

So in 2 hours I had a full bag and enough weapons to skill up whatever I wanted and all with just a polearm skill 1.

So yes I doubt that "nerf" will affect the gameplay as negatively as you may think.

Sounds like a smart move to me, don't know why you guys have to whine and complain about everything Darkfall does. Get over it.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
    Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

I think what bryan meant was that starter weapon used to be just slightly worse then real weapons. They fixed it by making starter weapon a lot less useful. This will make "naked with a starter weapon" encounters a lot less common then it used to be. That's a good thing IMO.

Its because people are not robots or slaves. People have opinions, robots dont, slaves do but they arent allowed to expresse them.

Back to the topic, why complain? Because if the starter weapon does the same level of damage as before (you just cant raise skills with it) then it does kinda benefit PKs. When PKs want to PK, they grab the starter weapon, get naked and start PKing. No risk or no loss for them. Since non-PKs want to level up, they are forced to use non-starter weapons, thus giving an opportunity for a PK who loses nothing to PK them without fear.

Now I do not play this game, but if players gain skills even during pvp, that would mean that PKer would never gain skill ups unless he/she risked losing gear while fighting mobs/players. So yes, currently people can just PK with newb weapons/no armor but that person also has to equip at least some type of weapon to gain skill ups, so that means once you gain some skills over that PKer, that PKer should be at a major disadvantage (unless you are fighting mobs with people watching you but that is another case entirely).

Either way, flame away...I wouldnt know anything, I dont play.

MMOs Played: I can no longer list them all in the 500 character limit.

Hey we don't take kindly to your type around here.  How dare you express an opinion without having played the game.  Don't you realize playing darkfall is the only way you can earn the right to express an opinion about it?  Shame on you.

I agree. Maybe raise the defense provided by armor and tweak the damage output of weapons? (Pure speculation, I don't have the game.)

LOL you actually think this will deter people from running naked around with their starter weps.

Seriously how hard is it not to lvl your skill with another wep off clan mates, then run around naked and kill people.

Truth is many of these naked people already have their skill high

this wep nerf means shit , thats right its bullshit. its NOT gonna stop naked gankers because the wep is still the same only you dont get NO skill. This deters only the new people getting into the game and only them. Thos who sport around naked ganking will continue to do so.

So there still is NO risk. none.

Im going to sell you a dream.

Sounds good to me too, ive read other posts where everyone is going around naked so they don't have to give up anything when they get looted.  Which totally boggles my mind, people cry for a game that has risk vs. reward and then when they have one they run around naked so there is no risk. lol go figure.
