Sorry I think that's too young.  Finish school then play.  I'm 40.

When I'm 120 years old, sitting in a wheelchair and crapping in my adult diapers, I plan on doing nothing BUT playing MMOs.

All the MMO playing I do now is just practice for the future.

Christ, you're still a kid!  :D  I'm 55 this year, and been playing online games since the very early days of Battletech.  I'd bought my first home computer in 1978 (maybe 1979) and been gaming ever since. I sent my first emails and started downloading files three years before you were born!

So no, you're not too old. You might have to look for different games though, especially if your free time has reduced considerably compared to your teen years. The casual-friendly mindset is becoming more and more mainstream, so it's not hard to find a game that you can enjoy regardless of how often you play.

Really???  I swear I read an article the other day that said the average age of a gamer is late 30's.  And if that is the average age of a "gamer" then I'm sure that for MMO's it would be even older.

Dangit, I wish I could find that article again.  It was a news website.  But now I can't find it.

    I was 45 when I started playing MMO's so what's your point?

Also keep in mind that age does not equal intelligence, as shown with this post.

    "You're," not "your."

I'd think with the 39 years that you have been alive you'd know the difference. I prefer not to look like a fool before making a post on message boards, myself. :3

    45....but I'm a Toys "R" Us kid.

It's better to lurk in forums and be thought a fool...than to endlessly "Quote" and remove all doubts.

I will be 54 next month. I have been playing video games since well before PC's or Atari's or Nintento's or PSx's. I started playing (alpha and beta testing) MMO's in the late 90's. I am particular as to which one's I play and never play more then 2 at a time  . I also like to work out and read and play with my grand children when I have the chance.

Let's party like it is 1863!

Well, at last I know that I am not ALONE!! i will be 60 in June, & now find out that I am not the only "older" person to play mmo's!!

By the way, we are not all just starting out on games..I started out playing board games, & pinball machines in the  '50's, "graduated" to the Atari when we bought a used one for our 2 kids in the late 80's, then on to the Playstation, Nintendo, etc..now to these mmo's..what's next? I can hardly wait......!!!

Personally, I think they are all a great way  to pass the time, relieve stress, talk to people, all while having fun..if it's your kind of thing to do..I know I really enjoy my time on my game.  My friend list keeps getitng so full, I have to keep updating it..but what fun, talking with people from all parts of the world! Not to mention, getting a kick out of trying to get a character great gear, etc..by having my alts make it all, & getting to that next level..& that next interesting area..wow!!

I think that if we spend time on games, within reason, & don't ignore Real Life, & our important people in our lives, it's not a bad thing.  It's just another form of entertainment, like was mentioned earlier like tv, then what's the big deal? It's all in fun!!

So basically I guess I am saying, no you are not too old to play mmo's, like has been stated lots of times here already, never too old..imo !!! PLAY ON!!

Currently playing Lotro, my one true love(in mmo's..hahaha)!! (Looking forward to Hello Kitty, to see what it's all about..)

There is no such thing as "Too old for MMOs"...

There is only "You are too old for [that] MMO".

By all means there are games more suited to adults, look for a rated M game - though it doesn't help get rid of the kids. The only thing anyone can say is "you are too old for Hello Kitty", which is now a game and a great punchline. WoW is multi-age in my opinion, anyone can play it as a primer to the genre - but HKO is a dedicated kids game, stay away or face ridicule.

If you enjoy doing what you are doing taking care of responsibilites that you have and keep gaming time to reasonable levels have a life outside of playing mmorpgs then na enjoy doing what you are doing. If not enjoying it find something else to do.

    Sorry....Im 61

    63 here

I have been playing computer games since they started.

I don't think I have wasted my life playing games.  I have raised two children, have a degree in chemistry, fought in a war (Vietnam), and have had a job since I was 14.

I have played most western mmo's and have enjoyed the time spent in them.

I will be to old to play games when they close the lid on my coffin.

In my old EQ guild we had Grandfathers & Grandmothers playing alongside us ( & they were damn amazing players in our hardcore top end raid-guild) & we had ages ranging from 18 to 80+ !

Playing is a core of Human behaviour, to stop playing is to stop being Human, & you are never to old to enjoy gaming whether it is Chess, Cards, Golf, LARP, or videogames...the huge explosion of "Social Gaming" via iPods, Wii, & MMO's shows that gaming is already "Mass Market", albeit this huge influx of mainstream games are not what most hardcore videogamers ever expected to become the mass media.

So, in short, if you yourself feel you are too old to play MMO's, you might be, but you're never too old to play, indeed many older players I spoke to felt that videogaming in general helped to keep them mentally stimulated, & there is a growing body of evidence to suggest that keeping mentally active even if not able to be so physically has a lot of health benefits, it may even help is staving off mental dysfunction/decline.

A local old folks home I have visited as a voluntary worker had a playstation donated & the staff were quite surprised how well it was recieved, & the difference it has made to the qualityof life of the residents.

What the heck a bunch of people here are in their 50s and 60s? That's surprising...but cool. I have a friend who plays and he's like 45.  I feel young now and I'm 25 :)

So of course you are not too old.. all though i don't think the OP was being serious either.

You are only too old if you think you are too old. Can go with a lot of things.

I'm going to be 42 in 10 days. And I do play mmo's. I also keep them in perspective as I don't expect any life changing moments nor do I think one should spend all their time playing them.

    You're birthday is on 4/20?

When I saw the title, I thought you might be saying you were 80, not 22!!

But if this is a serious post, then no, there's no such thing as being too old to play mmo's.  I'll be 47 this month.  The majority in our guild are in the 30-60 range.

Basically clicking away text windows ruins every MMO, try to have fun instead of rushing things. Without story and lore all there is left is a bunch of mechanics.

    Obvious Troll is Obvious.

Anyway, your not too old, i would say your too bally young.

    Stop worrying NOW.

Your in your twenties...go have fun with bodyparts and abuse drugs, when you hit 30 and have a real job, then you can play mehmorpigahs, and you wont be a badly socialised ass-hat with no perspective, but will be able to just log on and have fun.

I appreciate the honest replies. For those that call me a troll, thanks as well. I am not trolling at all. I've just noticed that playing games these days the majority of people I encounter are ages 10 to 18. This isn't a trolling thread, as I've gotten some great and honest replies. I was just figuring out - am I too old? The answer is, I am too young based on many rpelies here.

    Thank you again!

I think, that in the case of most of us gamers that always feel a desire to play, it's because we innately love a challenge. That's really what games are, when you boil them down - you spend your time interacting with a virtual world in order to overcome the challenges of levels, figure out the economy and the best way to optimize your character for the amount of time you spend on it, etc. etc. It's like a more advanced version of a Crossword Puzzle or Sudoku.

That being the case, you can never really be 'too old' for gaming, you can only decide to quit. If I were to quit gaming entirely, my over-active brain would have to find another outlet to be satisfied with, because lord knows I wouldn't be happy with just watching T.V. and going to work every day. I need to experience fresh perspectives, unlock new worlds, and meet constant challenges.

Don't quit playing any type of game until you're damn well ready too. No age limit should be pressed on how you occupy your mind - most people sit on their butts and watch television all day when they don't have anything else to do. What's so embarassing about spending our time interacting with a challenge when we have free time?
