IMO they make more money from banning accounts at this time then allowing players to rename their characters.
A player pays 50 dollars for the game up front. A Perma ban makes it where you can't get your money back. They figure with limited space on the server a couple hundred ban players will open the store to couple hundred new plays that just paid 50 dollars to purchase the game. Money poeple don't read forums and their website well its just outdated lol.
First it's not "Money poeple" but Many People.
Second: Don't try to look for trouble where there isn't. Allowing more players to join is one of the many benifits both Aventurine and the players can receive from banning hackers. Hackers is not something to take so lightly and say they ban them for money. Most companies barely seems to take care of them and that kills the game for many players. I've seen games getting completly ruined by a massive flood of bots. Aventurine, unlike some other company, take this matter seriously (though way too seriously for others it would seem) and if money was their only reason, they would've done this long ago. The amount of hackers is just too important for AV to find them 1 by 1 because the players are unable to report (mostly because you must first get close enough to the bot to interact with him).

"In 48 hours characters with names made in an effort to confuse GMs and other players, for example adding a string of lower cap L’s and upper case I’s (IlIlIIIl) in their names will start getting their host accounts permanently banned. If you have a character like that, delete him and make a new one with a proper name."
Tasos is merciful and forgiving man. He allows you to delete your hacker char and start a new one on the same account. I had a char in WOW with a famous Norwegian lastname and I had to change it. Quisling was to hardcore for that game.
Now I`m wondering if I have to delete my DF char named "IrApEyOU HArdinTHEass" I guess not, because banning chars because of the name would be stupid..right?
So instead of forcing renames, the best solution they can give to people is.... "Delete your character and make a new one?" That's a move I would expect from an incompetent company. For a company that made a sandbox game for people that supposedly want to think "outside" the box. They sure did pick the laziest way possible to solve this.
Above me: butthurt hacker qqing because his "out of the box" exploits are getting proper treatment. Cheaters in mmos are the lowest form of life.

i love it. idiots who make chars with stupid names get pwned. it's exactly how it should be.
another victory for zero idiot tolerance.
in before yet more crying from the carebear crowd.
Carebear? Is that your defense? Are you that ignorant?
So they have no clue how to code their shitty game so they start banning people instead of allowing them to change their names.. wtf are you people smoking?
(Psst... Javac is a rabid DF fan... It's his sworn duty to spin, defend or justify anything they do, no matter how stupid, and make it sound brilliant or "hardcore")
That said.. yeah...
Every other MMO I've played has had name change policies in place... not only because of "idiots who come up with stupid names", but in the event that they want to prevent names of established characters (Drizzt, Superman... Jack Sparrow - some companies do have restrictions on that), or otherwise offensive names.
Not having a way to change characters names is just lazy. Having no other way to address it than to perma-ban offenders only underscores it.
As for complaining about being perma-banned for a name violation being "carebear"...
lol
Why don't we just cut to the chase and establish the rules (according to DF fans) once and for all:
Anything pro-DF is "hardcore", anything anti-DF is "carebear"; even if neither term applies to the situation.
There.

Seriously, the only defense is calling everyone a carebear... who started that? where did carebear come from?? Even though it doesn't make sense that they would not be called carebears for defending their game sooo much...
If they can't make a way to change names in thier own game that THEY programmed then they are idiots plain and simple.
I just don't know why they can't do that... doesn't make sense that they can't force people to change names OR change the names for them! That is a $16 a month income loss... do they not understand that? :-|
WoW, I congratz Tasos for doing something no other company would dare to do. I mean I was sick and tired of seeing retarded names like LIELIIEKLE or IIIIJLLLIFH. They exist in every MMORPG, and normally are not penalized. Who cares about the feelings of these players. They KNEW full well what they were doing. They wanted to be confusing, ban them suckers. It's ironic how people call Aventurine a scam, yet they pull this off, which would likely not be popular to the community and a detriment to their bottom line. Haha, but damn, Tasos is damn arrogant. Political Correct much?
But they didnt say that they are banning players with stupid names, they told people with names that could not be reported easily to erase the character that they have been raising (skill lvl, items, gold) for the last 1-5 weeks.
So people with names like Lilly, Lirilith, Lillit, Illiana, Illidan, Isildur, or any name with non-english characters (in an EU server) like Ä Å Æ Ç Ê Ë Ñ Ò Õ Ö Û Ü æ å ë ? ? ? ? ? ? that are normal in some languages, but will be imposible to write for players without the localized keyboard or know their ASCII code now they have to ponder if they delete their character or risk to be banned, althought their names a legitimates
Lets take the case of the guy with the I and l on his name. If they have the power they claim against the hackers, after the post in the forum, they simple need to PM the poster, ask his ingame character, place ant time. go look through the logs, find who killed them, take prooff of the hack of the killer guy and ban him, 5-10 minutes max if they inept. Or they could make a list of all the names, sot alphabetically and go to the l or i, find name and examine the logs, find the proof of hacking and ban (2 minutes max)
Instead of that, they are asking anyone with an unreportable name to delete their character. So, why?
Perhaps because they didnt have the power they claim to have ( talking about they know all and that they are going to ban hackers dont scare hackers, only prevent some poor normal guy that its tired of been killed by cheater and thinking to try that himself to do it). Perhaps they need players to report hackers they see so they could watch people cheat live to have proof, so they need to have all players to have reportable names
P.S. They also could be short of money, so banning some hundred of players and open the shop to sell that many accounts its the real reason. If someone protest, hey, we tell you to rename, you didnt, you banned (hacker or innocent)
So people with names like Lilly, Lirilith, Lillit, Illiana, Illidan, Isildur, or any name with non-english characters (in an EU server) like Ä Å Æ Ç Ê Ë Ñ Ò Õ Ö Û Ü æ å ë ? ? ? ? ? ? that are normal in some languages, but will be imposible to write for players without the localized keyboard or know their ASCII code now they have to ponder if they delete their character or risk to be banned, althought their names a legitimates blah blah...
This is my first thought when i read the statement, there are plenty of legit names with a smaller string of I and L that could get banned if they (aventurine) chose to. That is where this policy goes completely off the wall in my mind.
I'm not a fan of names with the non-english characters because it is difficult to type, but just banning because someone used one of those would be way too harsh.
Just add a right click - report feature and you won't have to worry about any names or anything.

Yep, I honestly dont care what the people's names are, if they are unable to put a right-click report feature that is their fault. Also, since they wont change names and only BAN people... thats insane...
I always knew that the MMORPG genre was full of morons and this thread is really bubbling them up to the top. Banning for a name is totally ignorant and lazy on the part of the devs.
This is starting to sound so DnL like it is scary. DnL couldn't change a bunch of their core code since they stole it from another company and didn't know how it worked. Sounds sort of familiar here doesn't it? AV apparently can't change code to either allow players to click on a hacker and report them or find a way to auto change names themselves with their "own" code.
I really wonder about a company that can't maintain the code that they supposedly wrote from scratch. All the patches seem to have been on overlay code not the fundamental code and here comes a fundamental design problem and they fail.
I could really care if someone names their character numbnuts or 1lil1il1il1il1il1i1li1li1li1l1i since the games I play have a mechanism to report hackers, too bad your "greatest MMORPG ever written" can't handle simple fundamental code changes to allow this function.

They do this because like this they can free up another slot to sell. Makes 50 dollars more for them. Adventurine is realy smart.
Plus if the banned guy ever want's to play again he will have to purchase again...
This Tacos is a genious.
LOL!!

Guys, guys, the answer here is simple:
-AV cant change the name of chars, thats why they're perma-banning. No warning, no foul, its that simple.
-If they can indeed change the names, then they're just idiots.
The end.
The rules of Debate are really simple; once you have to stoop to insults instead of facts, logic, or reason to try and win your argument, you've lost.

This.
It has nothing to do with someones choice of name. It's people making names in a blatant effort to prevent others from reporting them.
They're taking furthere steps to get rid of the people that cheat.

-No, I would never group/interact with them.
-No, They should not ban them simply for chosing a dumb name, if there were no warnings before they created their characters.

It's an obvious attempt to get away with something so screw them for trying it. Ban 'em all, let Tasos sort them out.
