They are just louder than the old fogies like us... a lot louder.  I'm 27 and I don't consider *anybody* too old to play a game as long as they are serious about it, are giving it a fair shot, and doing their best to become immersed in the experience/fun (I know it sounds weird, but you can be serious about having fun)...

But, now, is it possible for a gamer to be too young...? Yes.  And age, that is the actual # of years you've been on this rock, has nothing to do with it.  It's all about attitude and maturity.

I've encountered players in their early teens who had the right idea and approach to MMO's... who were just as capable and fun to play with as some of my best guildmates (who are in their late 20's/early 30's).

Then again, I've encountered "older" players who reminded me of crude/stupid frat boys (or junior high jocks/bullies who think something like farting on a friend is the end all in entertainment).

Essentially, it all boils down to how you carry yourself, not your age.  Unless you're using TS or know the players in RL, people rarely care enough to find out how old you are, let alone worry about it if they happen to find out.  Of course, if you're playing with very immature players, age probably pops up as a "pissing contest" type of thing (e.g., "I know better because I'm older/have been gaming longer/etc.").  Still, it's not really a big deal unless you make it one.

All this is said despite the fact that gaming with people of your own generational subset can enchance the experience (sometimes).  What I mean is... gaming with somebody who grew up watching the same TV shows/cartoons... playing the same games at about the same age as you were... those things make it a little easier to bond while chatting during downtime.

If so, he's a failing troll, as this thread is actually quite cool. ;-) (Edit: I saw after posting that he countered that insinuation, which is good.)

33 myself, but more interestingly I saw a thread on the WoW forums a couple of years ago about a 72 year old Italian playing.

Well at 22 you should be focused on your studies and finding a nice girl or boy. You will have plenty of time to play when you are 40+

You're never too old to play.  While playing WoW, I met a 13 year old kid who was lvling to reach the lvl 25 requirements for his grandfather's guild, and was excited about it.  I thought that was amazing.  I mean especially since he lives in Alabama and his Grandparents lives in California.  Think about how many conversations or interactions would actually take place between the two of them if it wasn't for these types of games.  Although it's a virtual world, the fact that you can share these type of cool moments with family and friends that transcends age, distance, and physical abilities without leaving your front door is priceless.  Being his parents played too along with other family members it made me look at it a bit different and, I got some of my friends and family members into the playing WoW during the time I did and I can say it made all of us closer.

Anything positiive that bridges the generational gap is a win/win in my opinion.

I think it depends on where you live. In my country it is a criminal offense to play video games after you turn 18, and if you are caught it's a 5 year prison sentence. But it may be different where you live, so you should check with your local authorities just to be sure.

MMMORPGs used to be, I thought, designed for more "sophisticated" gamers, regardless of age.

You might not be too old, or too young, for MMORPGs but you could be too smart.

The industry is creatively lost, and blind, and so dumbed-down that I do not even have a subscription to any one of them; they are all essentially the same; the worlds feel generic; the content is predictable and linear; and innovative elements and features are absent.

Age has nothing to do with it.

Intelligence, creativity, innovation has everything to do with it.

We need to return the MMORPG to its proper place as a form of participative/interactive art.

    Not a game.  A world.

Answering the OP's question with a question: Can you play an MMO now if you want to?

(Answer: Then you're not too old to play MMO's)

Hey it's like this... you play how you want, when you want, where you want. Age ain't got a thing to do with it.

I'm older than Sovrath, not as old as lovely Nadia, and aint no where near Ionselon;)  but it's about the game and your enjoyment of it. You not liking what yer doing today? put it down...pick up a fps... or better yet here's one just for brain teasers...

Ok, lets clear one thing up..... YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO BE PLAYING VIDEO GAMES! If playing MMO's it what you like to do then do it. It doesnt matter about your age its just what you like to do, its a hobby just like watching football or playing golf. Keep playing MMO's all you want but if you feel that you need to "grow up" a little bit then thats all up to you not a MMORPG forum's opinion.

    NOTHINGNESS means everything....

MMORPG is a way of life and age doesn't matter but the fact is that a lot of todays MMO's are so easy that it brings a lower age audiance. I am 28 and will keep on playing until I lose my eye sight and then ill prolly kill myself :P

If anything you can only be too young, given the over flowing amount of immature people ruining the industry these days.

I know a few guys of  60+ years in my online racing league, and racing requires hand eye co-ordination over a period of up to 1 hour.

Whereas MMOs are point and click........................................

btw some consider racing online as the ultimate pvp as every second you are racing you are competing against other players.
