I played for a while and it was fun, but I just couldn't keep playing knowing that in the end I would be forced to wear a skirt because of lore. Has this changed or is every male still cross-dressing?
Bad Screeshot but it shows that not all armor is skirts and robes. (Sorry for it being big, I didn't feel like editing.)
We know there are some pants, thing is there are too few.
You pic is a good exemple of how good are the clothes but the pants. You would admit your pants does not fit the rest of your equipment. It shows AoC has a serious issue with character customization.
It isn't even better with NPC. You have some neat npcs wearing pastel clothes and bright blue/red/green hats that doesn't fit the rest of the paleish colors. Look at the priest of mitra in the temples with they fluorescent blue clothes. They look like stroumphs, they are just missing the withe hat and boots.
Top of that all women have EE mamal implants, not only it's not sexy but boring and stupid.
OP you are a tad ignorant, they are not skirts, they are kilts. And would you say that the Highland Scots were/are "cross dressers"? /facepalm
The original Scots were decended from a race of northern crossdressers, I believe they were from the country of Tranvestania. I am decended from the Irish so no kilt/crossdressing for me!!
Actually hang on the Scots and Irish are from the same place originally so kilt/skirt time for me *cough* yay *cough*
Nomadic Eurasian horsemen such as the Iranian Scythians, along with Achaemenid Persians, were among the first to wear trousers.
In ancient China, trousers were only worn by soldiers.
The first european appearance of trousers was in Hungary in the IX century. Men's clothes in Hungary in the 15th century consisted of a shirt and trousers as underwear, and a dolman worn over them, as well as a short fur-lined or sheepskin coat. Their trousers were simple in general, only their colour being unusual, but the dolman covered the greater part of the trousers.[2]
Trousers were introduced into Western European culture at several points in history, but gained their current predominance only in the 16th century, from a Commedia dell'Arte character named Pantalone (Italian word for Trousers).[3] In England in the Twelfth century, the rustic were often seen in long garments to the ankle, rather like trousers, which are really glorified braies. Trouserlike garments, which became rare again in the thirteenth century, vanished during the fourteenth century and scarcely reappeared for six hundred years. [4] The word itself is of Gaelic or Scots Gaelic origin, from the Middle Irish word "triubhas" (close-fitting shorts), however it is important to note that trews of the Early Industrial Period were in not trousers.[5][6]
This is from the keeper of all knowledge: Wikipedia
To say you don't want to wear skirts, I assume because it's not manly enough, shows your absolute ignorance about human history. Since Age of Conan is set in a made up, pre-history, and is generally associated with our own bronze age period, the fact that there is ANY pants in the game is actually inaccurate (but it's fantasy, not history).

Very interesting to read. I knew a bit about this but wow, now I feel knowledgeable!
I played for a while and it was fun, but I just couldn't keep playing knowing that in the end I would be forced to wear a skirt because of lore. Has this changed or is every male still cross-dressing?
Yes, because of the lore and the more realistic tone of the game.
Are you for real? "The skirts diminish the fun factor for me??!" Ignorance or neurosis?
Kilts or robes for that matter; Not only do they look really cool and are in essence more manly than your pants designed by gay men so they can really take in the shape of your youthful buttocks, but they are also extremely comfortable and practical in use and come highly recommended.
You don't know this of course, but they are also quite the chick magnet. Think I'm making this up? Think again.
I wish I was scottish, a punk or a sami or something so I could use them all the time in RL without being deemed criminally insane.
The thing about the Scotts is, they didn't even wear kilts until the 18th century. They wore tunics with a belt. In other words, Braveheart FUBAR'd.
Anyway, I guess you'd call the Spartans and Romans pussies as well? Let's face it: the only reason to feel uncomfortable about feeling the wind in your junk, is because you might not have enough junk to feel it.
here is one for those of you that have some huge issue with wearing a dress in game www.youtube.com/watch enjoy it as its actually well done hehe
Actually, regarding character customization WoW is an epic fail.
Better choice next time...
you totally didn't get it at all through those WoW hate glasses you had on.
I did not post the vid because of Wow's customization or actually anything to do with WoW at all, I posted it because in this thread people are complaining about having to wear a skirt or dress and it isn't befitting their manliness. as the song in the vid was depicting . Had nothing to do with WoW at all other than that game was used to make the vid.

Congrats you winz teh interwebz *eyeroll*
I saw this video as an example of a game in which people don't have the choice of their clothes.
You post was like answering to someone who criticize fool actions saying look this one is doing the same thing (or worse) so why bother?
I'd just like to clear this up a bit. It has nothing to do with "manliness" or historical accuracy because I really don't care, as long as I like the way my character looks, which I don't if he's wearing a skirt. It's personal preference and I'm not alone in it. I don't care if you say "Oh but you shouldn't dislike a game because of the way your character looks" because if I can't do anything to make my character look how I want him to, why the hell should I bother playing?
QFE and well said.
I think it's a matter of choice. Give the player the choice to have their charactesr looks like the way they want it.
If it's killing the game graphical chart, well then guess it's time for them to move to a more suitable game.

I don't find it constructive.
I am not here to be "constructive" for you
and yes in a way it is if you actually listened to the song it was a humorous complaint on having NO choice in the clothing you are made to wear for the stats in that game or any other.
and actually we as gamers always have a choice of what we wear in most games, but unfortunately we get so caught up in the need to be ubar that we don't make our own choices and go with what is given us. Even in that song at the end he forgoes the "dress" for a set of Twill, the character gets past the game telling you what to wear and makes his own choice.
so yes it adds to this thread and is constructive if you have a sense of humor and don't view everything with a bitter outlook.
to the OP I was not saying you were worried about your in game manliness it was more just a lead in to the vid I posted , sorry if it was missconstrued.

Still waving their junk in the breeze, mate.
Yea, but many of the sets still look very good imho. Thats my mains pic from YG below:
In AoC Real men wear short skirts

Mandatory skirts are an unfun factor for me.

I can't help but to think of the word "hypocrite". Let's see, "skirts" bad, "dress" ok.
Not trying to offend your ego here so rebutes of hate is not nessesary.
It is preferable not to travel with a dead man.
