The only thing I dislike about open PvP is that to many people abuse it. There seems to be a huge amount of a$$holes out there that are determined to make casual players lifes HELL! It seems to me that SWG got it right by making it possible to choose "covert" or "overt". That way if you like PvP you can openly fight others that like PvP and you can't abuse the carebears! Makes everyone happy!

Well its almost the same as WoW PvE environment on 1 or 2 servers.... the players choose whether or not to start pvp by typing /pvp and they are enemies of the horde....... but they still have PvP servers which is "kos" =/
Where r u hard core PvPers? Please tell me where I am missing all the fun. Is it picking on someone smaller than you? Or is it getting PKed down to lvl 1 and having to do everything over again?
I just dont get it.....
Looks like your talking about Lineage2 im guessing..... what a stupid game.

Pvp is the only fun thing in a MMORPG. It's the only real challenge. Fightning unintelligent mobs that are all the same is soooo boooring. Do you like killing the same stupid monsters (just different models) over and over again? I just don't get it......

I'm not saying PvP dosen't have it's place, just when it is available it gets abused. I can see the fun in being challenged or raiding an enemy guild but not chopping up innocent noobs for fun. Also, what did we do before MMO's? We hacked away at NPCs. It was fun then and it's more fun now because you have friends to help you. I strongly belive in limited PvP for main servers and... hey... throw in a couple of ALL PvP servers for you guys to beat each other up!
Sorry, just my 2 cents
People who complain about PVP are the ones that suck at PVP.

That you would even have to say that proves your intelligents right?
Open PVP would be more interesting if the perpetrators had to deal with DIRECT CONSEQUENCES (as in linking guards that would either kill or fine).
Of course, Open-PVP without perma-death is like sushi without fish; in permanent death-pvp games most PKs had to deliberate, since it could very well have meant their own death (meaning hours of hours of wasted time with optimal PVP equipment etc.).
This type of setting isn't for everyone: Just the set of people that play for the moment and not necessarily the end-game.

This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
Open PvP does nothing but invite griefing. Sure there are a lot of people that like the challenge, but for every one of you there is five more that get their kicks griefing those unable to defend themselves. If they made it where the last five levels to the current level cap trigger open pvp or something like that, I think it would work.
I am not a hardcore PvPer, but I enjoy PvP tremedously. Have you ever played EVE and fought in a huge galatic war? Have you ever waited for someone your corporation is at war with and built up a blockade with 50 corporation members at the warp gate? There are plenty of implementations were unprovoked attacks against low level players are being punished. As for EVE, the police (Concord) will nuke you, if you attack a new player. EVE has also regions with different security status. If you're a newbie, you simply don't go there. Plus in EVE you cannot tell who is better or a higher level, because small cruisers can take out a huge battleship if properly equipped. Also, PvP stimulates role-playing.
PvP vs. PvE is like comparing apples with oranges. If we all would be alike, life would be boring.
Hope this helps.
PvP is not for everyone.. I know I don't feel like it at times also. IMOHO The 'fun' of PvP is knowing there is another real person at the other side of that toon... I'm not big on the whole ganking thing (killing people so lower then you as to be basically defensless), but on the other hand I have attacked higher level characters in DAoC (in Darkness Falls) knowing I couldn't win, but trying to slow them down so others from my realm could kill them..
At the moment I'm leaning towards either games with a level playing field (such as most FPSs or GuildWars) or the whole PvP flaggable thing (such as in WoW, with the /pvp switch and PvP zones). Most games make it easy to avoid PvP if you wish....

Sorry you seem to get no enjoyment out of an actual challenge and more out of fighting some mindless AI for hours on end, but I guess each to their own. Part of PvP is your going to get jumped sometimes and beaten sometimes, its inevitable. But just the fact that you always have to watch your back is part of the enjoyment out of those that do actually enjoy PvP. If you dont like PvP dont play PvP games... Nothing else to really say about that matter.

PVP is great. I am one who enjoys the aspect of going against player characters who enjoy the same. However I agree with the post above that states that pvp should be implemented as a "choice" and not forced upon people who dont care for it.
At first, as a pvp'r I just couldnt understand why the hell anyone who wanted to play online with other peeps would not enjoy the pvp aspect. After having many discussions with "carebear" friends of mine and given it some open thought I came to understand one of the biggest, and most simple facts of gaming.
"Just because YOU enjoy it, doesnt mean THEY will enjoy it" and thats a pretty simple strait forward fact.
Now remember, this is comming from a person who enjoyed capturing other peeps ships in KA, Pirateing in Jump Gate with the infamous "Pay or Die" slogan... chose to play on Mordred in DAoC and is currently playing SWG JtL as an overt reb, and Joint Ops... just to break it up a bit.
For me PVP versus peeps who choose to PVP because they too enjoy the challenge is fun. On the op side of things, I firmly believe that the whole aspect of those who feel they must FORCE pvp on people who never asked for it, nor wanted to participate in it... is plain out pussified. Theres plenty of us true PvP'rs out here... so if ya feel the itch, bring it to one of us and let the pacifists alone.
Find me in SWG JtL Corbantis server as HEX... and after I pick up my copy of WoW today.. Ill be on one of their pvp servers... feel free to come on down and stomp on my toons...
There is no forcing PvP on others.
That's like me buying EQ2 and saying they're forcing PvE on me...

It's just like in real life.
Someone may come rob/stab/rape/kill you anytime as long as you live. Guess what?
DEAL WITH IT. You can't do shit.
If you don't like open PVP then don't play the game. Simple.
I was once playing this MMO called Planetside, and I went out to Ceryshen to kill some rats and harvest some grain so I could craft a loaf of bread, but I found nothing. Instead, two dudes shot me right in the face!
Can you believe that? I was only a noob and they shot me down in cold blood! Damn griefers!
Ha i see some active shadowbane names here. Anyhow, Pvping is a prefered flavor. some like it some dont. the difference is that we dont run to a forum and make a carebear convention of sympathy crying poor me i got cought out in the the open with my pants down and i got smoked.
In pvping you have to be intellegent about what you do and how you do it. if your too low to venture out in the world alone. then by all means dont do it. Find a good guild in a FFA pvping game and they will add to protecting you. Pvping is not for the weak type these are human players mind you not mindless beasts. they will hunt you and kill you. If your scared dont play em.
Cause these little carebear conventions make us hardcore peeps laugh every single time you carebears cry.
Tissue?
Pull up your pants wipe your lip dry your tears and get in game and show some heart. or play eq or WOW. Hay WOW has carebear pvping. It could be a start for you carebears.
We in shadowbane will be waiting for the hardcore.
Later
FoE Fist of the Empire
PvPing is only fun when it actually takes skill, ala FPS. PvP in an mmo-rpg takes no skill only a huge amount of time invested to find every possible exploit, farm the best possible gear, etc.
THIS is why PvP sucks.

Well, in some games, the mob AIs vary for different mobs and its fun to kill many of the mobs the first time around, but they do get old. And yes, I agree with you about PvP 100%. It is one of the best features in MMORPGS and it's where it shines in several games. I played AC2 for a while, but the times I will remember most will be from its PvP atmosphere... what a blast.
BTW, I noticed you play planetside, how is it lately? I was thinking about playing it again. Although I see a lot of people fussing about the BFR additions.
