PC, because I got one and it's main focus is not gaming but also a lot of other things. You can easily live without a console but living without a computer is close to impossible considering how dominating they've become for, well everything. Sure consoles are becoming more and more developed and advanced, but I feel that all that's happening is that they're really becoming more and more like PCs and then, what's the point of consoles if they are just becoming PCs?

Ah, but what's the point of a PC if a console can do the same things at a fraction of the cost with standardized hardware and no horrible operating system?
I prefer consoles, but with one exception .. I hate the controller. I find the combination of keyboard+mouse to be much more intuitive and responsive.

Well right now PC is preferred only because I can't play my favorite mmos on them but I think eventually I will be investing in a console because I believe sooner or later alot of mmos will be on the console.

Both. Driving games and other "simpler" games for console. Yes, console games are simpler (doesn't necessarily mean "bad") than PC games but thumb sticks are better for driving and sports games than a keyboard. Nothing beats mouse in strategy and FPS tho.

Oblivion was more fun on console, Morrowind was more fun on PC. Mass Effect was more fun (and significantly better looking) on PC. Then again - Halo didn't feel right on PC. -Yes I did test them.

    PC

Everyone pretty much has a PC anyway. For the cost of a lesser PC plus a console, you could just upgrade the PC to play more games. People overestimate the cost of a gaming PC these days. The ultra high end is expensive, but just take a step or two down and things get pretty cheap. The older of my two computers cost me $2000 4 years ago, and is just now getting to where it can't play newer games. (For reference Mass Effect is slow but still playable on it.) With a little forethought you can periodically upgrade your PC for pretty cheap.

Controls: keyboard and mouse beat controllers no problem

games: I prefer the games that only be truly played on PC, mmo's, RTS (and FPS are much better with a mouse).

     PC

PC gamming is evolution.  Console gamming is stuck in  1986,  Quick Time Events,  savepoints,  the use of a optical device for mass storage,  autoaim for fps,   simplistic gameplay, dumbed down RPG's,  ....  Consoles are today a force against good gamming. It destroy the good companys making his games garbage.

Given a choice between a real PC and a console that tries to be basically a gimpy PC, I'll take the real PC.

  • GreyfixGreyfix Member Posts: 6

AH, but they'er not. the price of consoles are steadily creeping up to meet the low end pc tech requirements for most good games.

I'm a PC person myself, based on years of use and versatility, I started using the pc with a tape drive and the Tandy from RadioShack. Back then we coded EVERYTHING. The computer was as stupid as we were, until we told it otherwise.;)

when you get used to doing it one way for so long, it's just hard ta change , I guess....

This is why people make fun of PC elitists, pure ignorance.

Save points? Saving in console games works the same way as the vast majority of PC games. Optical device for mass storage? I'm not sure what you're talking about, but 2 out of 3 modern consoles make use of Hard Drives, the same way your PC does. Auto Aim was invented and often still used and PC games, your simplistic gameplay argument is a joke, lets pop in Street Fighter 4 or Virtua Fighter 5 and we'll see how long you last.

Dumbed down RPG's is also false as most moden RPG's are multiplatform.

Here is a word of advice: If you know nothing about console gaming, don't comment on it, it's that simple. It's obvious you have very little experience with modern console gaming, so why you felt a need to even comment in this thread is beyond me.

Haraback: I think its obvious you only play a handful of genres. Again, Pop in Street Fighter 4 or Devil may Cry 4 in your PC and see how well your Mouse & Keyboard last. Mouse & Keyboard were not made with gaming in mind, and only work well with a handful of genres.

you say you paid 2000$ for your PC 4 years ago and it's already struggling, how is that a good argument? I believe the Xbox360 launched at 400$ in 2005? it can run Mass Effect with no issues.

Ah... I couldn't vote because you didn't put an option for "Both Equally". This topic isn't as black and white as you seem to believe. I play all sorts of games and for some I prefer the console. Some others I prefer the PC. A lot I think play equally well on both. The modern consoles have evolved to the point where this question is getting kinda dumb. If you had of ask me this question 10 years ago I would have said, "PC all the way!" but with today's consoles the fine line between console and PC gaming is becoming nonexistent.

I voted console because there just aren't enough exclusive PC games to warrent being an exclusive PC gamer. There's also a greater variety of games available on consoles whereas the PC is pretty much confined to FPS, RTS and MMORPG. With RTS games it's PC all the way. FPS games are just as good either way so the decision includes other factors like:

    • Will my PC run it?
    • Can I get this game at a cheaper price used for the console?
    • Is there a demo or do I have to rent the console version?
    • Do I want to play this today, or is it cool to wait for the 10 gig download on Steam?

    ... and so on.

There aren't that many MMORPGs for consoles, but the ones I have played, I liked. Phantasy Star Online may not have been an MMO by the standards of most persistent world nazis, but it was hella fun. EQOA was about as much fun as the original EQ, which is to say that it was about as much fun as a repetitive grind could be. I never got to play FFXI on the PS2 or XBox 360 but I'm thinking that it might be time to check it out on those platforms.

At any rate, a good game is a good game and I'll play it even if it's on a cell phone or a cereal box.

Definately PC for me. I have a PS2 and a Wii but both rarely get used. And when they do ...it is the kids using em. I can do alot more with a PC. The web is more PC friendly. I also can get an awful lot of free PC games. I use PC for much more than just gaming.

If all I did was play games then a console might be the way to go...but as it is, untill Consoles can do as much as a PC...I will stick with PC. So untill then, I may as well spend the extra on a decent gaming PC rather than a cheap PC and console.

I agree that mouse and keyboard were not designed for gaming yet there are plenty of PC games where you need a controller, but not because they're bad for it, but controls weren't improved for the PC. Mouse works wonders with 3rd person perspective games for example, GTA/Splinter Cell were always excellent for me in terms of controls, but companies don't waste much of their time improving a PC port, because of the problems with pirating (not to mention many console games have a bigger focus on single player, aggravating the issue) or just lazy, you can't help it.

I think this poll needs the "I enjoy both" option. I enjoy many console exclusive franchises.

How did you come out with such an original idea for a new thread?

  • n0hmaddn0hmadd Member Posts: 29

Started out on my Atari 5200 consol and stoped at The Sega Dreamcast before I enterd the PC world, since I use the Pc for so many things outside of gamming (paying bills and watching porn) since most of the games I play are Mmp's and the ones I like are not on the Consol, personally I can see no reason to go back to the consol.

One day developers may come to realize that Money for most households is Tight and the price of Pc's are pretty High Given the life of a pc is 3-5 years depending on use, the consols may take the bull by the horns and cross the hybrid line by comming out with a game system that uses controllers but also has a built in keyboard, not to different from what Blackberrys and other cell phones use, yet on a larger and more game friendly configuration.

PC.  I have a PS3 and a Wii that sit for months at a time.  I can find flash games that are more fun and playable than most of the crud my PS3.

PC for me! but I do love consoles for sport games with friends.

I thought consoles used batteries in the carteridge to save games. (hehe)

PC for me. I enjoy tinkering with PCs and building them. It's like my hobby, I guess. I also love the fact that I can do other things on a PC like graphic and web design, whereas on a console I'm pretty much limited to playing games and watching movies, which I can also do on a PC by the way.

So it's a no brainer for me. PC's, although generally more expensive, offer much more than a console. Besides, as someone already stated in this post, most people own a PC and a console and if you combine the cost of both, you can build a serious gaming PC. Like the one I'm using now, for example, cost me about $1200 (with a 23" monitor) and shrugs off anything I throw at it.

Besides that, games for consoles are generally more expensive that the same games for the PC.

    Also, user created mods.

PC - it has more utility.

Actually, I don't own a console, I've never seen the need for one.

  • johnnychangsjohnnychangs Member UncommonPosts: 261

Depends on the game I guess.

I prefer Fallout 3 on the Xbox 360.

Still wondering which version of Left4Dead I should grab.  Torn between PC and Xbox360.  In the end, I tell myself I probably wouldn't play it that much anyway, so I just decide not to get either verison.

I prefer the PC. Why you ask? Because if I played console systems Id have to waist money on getting all 3 systems and their games cause the games I like arent on certain consoles.

If i wanted fun and useless games Id have to get the Nintendo Wii

If I wanted Fantasy RPG's like the FF Series Id have to get the PS3

If I wanted challenging games like Halo and Half-Life Id have to get the Xbox 360

Plus to play them hall and have the best look Id have to go out and get a kick ass TV LCD or Plasma

With the PC I am able to play all of these with all the extra expendature

I was able to do a decent upgrade on my desktop and spend under $450 USD if I went with Console just the cost of all 3 consoles not including tax comes to $949.97

And what of those who did the killing? Is happiness to be found in a future that is grasped with blood stained hands? Is that the truth?"

PC for sure, there really isn't a comparison.

PC's have a far better control scheme for almost everything except driving and sports games.

The cost argument isn't even valid anymore. The last generation of consoles were pushing $400-$600. Considering a console is really only good for gaming, and a PC for slightly more can do gaming and much much more, it's really not comparable. I spent $1100 on this PC two years ago, I can still play every new game that comes out at top notch graphics, and I can do so much more with it. Seeing as I'm a 3rd year computer science major, I do much much more with it.

Not to mention I get the fun of building my computer, and upgrading it. Programming, browsing the web, office work, etc etc.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
    Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

I like both but find my self playing consoles more often because they have more exclusive games I like and also because all my friends are console gamers.

  • Master_RazorMaster_Razor Member Posts: 226

For gaming I will always prefer consoles. For me, consoles win in every area:

Games: I don't play any games on my PC currently, not since I quit WoW. I have 4 or 5 RTS games that sit there in my program files never getting played. While my Xbox 360 gets played on a daily basis. I have Halo 3, Guitar Hero and several other great games. I've got my Wii for Smash Bros. and other games.

Interface: A controller makes so much more sense to me for nearly every genre of gaming than a keyboard and mouse. The only games I really need a keyboard to play are RTSs. Although RPGs like WoW where you have dozens of different abilities would be difficult to play with a controller. But for any other genre, I prefer controllers. This includes FPSs. In fact I can't stand playing shooters with a keyboard, I don't get how anybody can enjoy it.

Reliability: You have to replace a computer every 4 or 5 years. I've had my N64 for 8 years and it still plays games just fine.

Price: Good gaming computer-$1000+. Most expensive gaming consoles nowadays $400-$500.

So in my opinion, consoles > PCs.
