Personally, I'm pretty bored about fantasy moo games: mages, clerics, necromancers, warriors, fancy feys and the like.. they are everywhere and all the same things.

I would like to see some more techlike moo. Starcraft would be great. Some doom-like even, too, or half-life or Robotech/MechWarrior-like. Or even more present days, like GTA or similar.

My 10 choices would be :

    1. Zelda

    2. Starquest

    3. Fable

    4. Jade Empire

    5. Kingdom Hearts

    6. Monkey Island

    7. Dune

    8. Skies of Arcadia

I'd like to fully throw in my support for the following:

    1. Mechwarrior/Battletech MMO

    2. Shadowrun MMO

    3. Crimson Skies MMO

     So basically FASA heh

Sadly enough they all had multiple video games based on them but they are all ripe and almost make more sense as MMOS.

Lots of good games listed. Some I didn't even know about. Will check them out.

I think Planescape would make an awesome MMO. A unique environment, a limitless expansion mechanism and endless story driven elements. All features that make for a great MMO.

In the Sci-Fi area I'd love to see Freespace as an MMO.

Also Half-Life would make for an interesting MMO.

So many of the suggested games are FPS games.  Most of those seem to die quickly in the MMO realm.  Maybe some of you should look at what works and what doesn't work before suggesting games.  Just because it makes a good FPS does not mean it will be a good MMO too.

True you can't just take a good single or multi player FPS and stick it online and have a winning MMO. However that has nothing to do with the visual perspective of the game. Its more a factor of failing to restructure the game to be successful as an MMO which is an entirely different genre.

    My Top Picks Would Be

    1) Elder Scrolls

    2) Neverwinter Nights

    3) Age of Empires

    4) Vampire: The Masquerade

Elder Scrolls for me is one of the best rpg games ever made and while Neverwinter Nights share some similarities for me I prefer Elder Scrolls especially the latest one.  I'd like to see them further develop the vampire condition with in the game and even add warewolves to the games as well.  With that I would like to see more of true class syestem, but allowing a system to exsist that would still one to custiomize their class for the own needs.  I know I also mentioned Vampire: The Masquerade and that there is alredy a  game being made to a mmo, none the less I still see it worth mentioning.

I have many ideas that at least I think could work will in a rpg type mmo, yet this is neither the place or time to mentioning them but I may post on it at some point.

Nice article. As for none-video game based (except that it has been made into games before of course) I would really love to see a Dune Online. It's a very interesting universe and I think it could be translated into a great sci-fi MMORPG.

    Playing: Xbox360.
Played: NC, WoW, EvE, WAR, LOTRO.
    Waiting: Dust 514, SW:TOR, Infinity:TQFE, et al.

Two games you left out that I would love to see made into MMOs would have to be Civilizations and Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic. That is all.

Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

Not likely. Bethesda (or was it the other company involved with Fallout?) has said they are only interested in single-player CRPGs.

Hah, in the old days when the Internet was open, I emailed Bethesda saying that they should make their next game an MMO, or at least cooperative multiplayer.  Daggerfall had the "push the mouse forward, your sword extends into a thrust, pull the mouse back and shove it forward, you execute an overhand slash" thing going, which sadly is gone today - you kids are just too uncoordinated to handle that kind of action :P

We were playing EQ1 at the time, and I really wanted that kind of FPS (First Person Swordplay) action in an MMO. Because this was teh old-skool Internet, the lead dev of Bethesda himself emailed me back. His message was "We think single-player games are where it's at, and that's what we're going to keep making" or words to that effect.

well, Bethesda is making money, but *cough* WoW, I wonder what the possibilities would have been if they'd taken the at-the-time premier single-player RPG franchise and gone MMO or even multiplayer with it?

Side note, there's actually a couple of guys who have gotten limited mulitplayer to work with Oblivion. Take that Mr. Dev! :P

The Elder Scrolls would be the king of all MMORPG's . I just hope i'll catch the day Bethesda will make this step.

I know that they are focused on single player..but they do make the BEST single player RPG's out there !

Everybody I know that played The Elder Scrolls feels the same. Multiplayer would be great, just to show off with your character :)

PVP, a dream ! Just imagine playing Oblivion with a couple of friends in a cold Ayleid ruin and taking on a dark very powerfull boss...a daedra mabe?...

But ...what do you say about multiplayer with Oblivion? Please fill me in.

Totally forgot about this - you can play Oblivion multiplayer on Xbox Live (coop mode too, so you can go questing with your friends). So, I guess when a player talks, it doesn't matter, but when Microsoft talks, you sit up and wag your tail, eh Bethesda?

However, multiplayer with PC Oblivion is barely functional, and not worth playing atm. Follow the links I put in and hope people stay engaged, Oblivion is fading away now. I think we may have to be satisfied with SWTOR for PC MMO story-based RPG play.
