Next possible playable class? Droids?

Alot of the video and artwork that has been released has shown character classes that have already been revealed.  Except for one.   There is some artwork showing different types of droids.  Could this be the next reveal in the coming weeks?

Hmmm....could be,  They seem to be going with big star wars archetypes and droids would be def fit that. I 4 one would like to be  a Hut like the boy Jabba. you could start as beeing a babby Hut having to eat other Huts just to get ahead and you could end up witha a palace and dancing slave girls and space burgers and all your enemys frozen in carbonite.....now thats living!

    oh lawdy! droids?

    lol doubt it

Maybe like KOTOR when you can switch to your droid for a sec to hack something.

I don't think droid characters would be something they would do for the launch.   They'll have enough just providing with the various non-human races people will want to play.

Bioware would probably want to wait for something likw droid characters for an expansion.

I could see droids being one of the companions they keep talking about.

    droids = pets?

  • kawlkjakawlkja Member Posts: 352

Companion does not necissarly mean pet.

I'd have to vote "no chance".

Since classes seem to be specific to either the Republic or the Sith, droids would not make much sense since they'd have a place on both sides. I think they are far more likely to be a companions, since they would then fit much easier into the game.

i would think droid would fall under a race versus an actual class. therefore i vote no on the next class reveal. still havent had jedi revealed as a class yet either. bioware will probably wait and make that one their last reveal.

No droid will not be a playable race or class, the creators of SWTOR said we would have NPC companions on our journies so a droid could be one of them, or maybe a droid pet class.

Droids?  I'd rather play as an Ewok.  Yeah I know most Star Wars fans love to hate the little furry munchkins, but I love em.  I'm one of the few Star Wars fans that likes them.  I declare today that I am no longer a closet Ewok fan!  Who else is with me?  And, this post is no joke, I would really love if they made an Ewok a playable race for a future update.  There's nothing more adorable than watching an Ewok shoot a laser blaster (or their usual low-tech slingshots and thrown rocks).

I would imagine in pvp everyone would be like "Look an Ewok, get him!!!!!!'  Then I'd be running for my life!  Now you see the appeal to playing one.  Everywhere I'd go everyone would want to kill me.  That would be a fun race to play then. :)

I doubt you will see ewoks at all in KoToR, endor isn't even charted yet I think at this point. As for droids Star Wars lore supports sentiant droids in KoToR, the movies, and even the books so I could see droids being a player race option but with very limited career paths. HK was sentiant, so was T3 in the games, in the movies you had IG-88, C-3po, and R2, in the books to many to list. This free will happens if you don't memory wipe your droids enough, after a while the AI finds work arounds on all the inhibitors in a droids brain and it can pretty much then do what it wants, be it look for an old friend or kill everyone in sight. Honestly I wana play a wookie trooper or bounty hunter and use a vibro sword and blaster.

I don't think they'll go for playable droids anytime soon.  I mean, come on, that might reveal Star Wars' dirty little secret, droids are slaves.

Isn't it strange that a pair of personable droids is our guide through these movies, and we all know how independant and sentient they really are, but this universe of other characters firmly believes they're appliances like ambulatory toaster ovens. They buy em, they sell em, they scrap them if they feel like it. See one wandering free? Slap a restraining bolt on it and sell it to a moisture farmer.

    ------------

Ewoks? seriously? You need to go back and watch that made-for-tv Ewok movie again. That ought to cure this condition you have right up.

"... endor isn't even charted yet... "  this is an mmorpg, they can do what they want.  If players want to play and Ewok then the dev. should listen.  Maybe in a future update endor might get discovered!  It doesn't have to follow the Star Wars chronology exactly.  Yeah I know the Star Wars "perfectionist" fans will have a tiffy, but really it's a game, I don't really mind a slight deviation from that actual chronology of the lore, I just think it would be a cool race to play.  Ewoks rock!

Though the bounty hunter has it's appeal, so I agree with that part of what you said.

Edit:  Ewok playable race could attract more girl gamers (and hence more subcriber possiblities and more $$$ to be made).

I like the idea since I'm all for choices though I would have no interest in playing one I doubt.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

I really hope you are joking about the Ewok thing.  If you want to play something short and furry, argue that they should add Bothans.  There is absolutely no reason to abuse the lore of the setting in order to have something small, cute, and furry.  George Lucas decided the new movies needed a "cute" comic relief character, and gave us Jar Jar, who almost single-handedly ruined the Phantom Menace.  Almost, he had help from the little kid.

Also, Return of the Jedi was by far the worst movie in the original trilogy, largely because of the Ewoks.

As for the actual topic, I was thinking that Assassin Droid would be an awesome class to have, but it would probably be awfully similar to Bounty Hunter in terms of gameplay, and it would clearly not fit that well with the Republic side, so I am guessing that is out.  As for making droids a race,  I just don't see that being feasible, unless they design a completely different aesthetic for every droid race/class combo.  Droids are highly specialized, seeing two droids running around that look almost exactly the same, but serve completely different purposes is something that just wouldn't be realistic in the context of Star Wars.

Edit: If an idea is bad, no, the devs shouldn't listen.  People ask for lots of stupid things.

There was a problem with Bothans in SWG right after the NGE launched being harder to target because their hit box was smaller. Either way smaller characters have a line of sight, and visibility advantage in any mmo. I imagine Ewok players would be the worst to play against in PvP.

Look if most Star Wars fans hate Ewoks so much, then what better reason then to allow them as a playable race.  Then you can take out all your hate, angst and frustration on any player who plays as an Ewok.  It's win win for the fans who hate Ewoks, and to those in the very few fans who like Ewoks can play as one.  If you hate Ewoks so bad then this would present itself as the perfect opportunity for you to kill what you hate most in Star Wars.  Again win win situation.

And no I'm serious with this.  I really am one of the few fans who likes Ewoks.  I admit to agree that Return was one of the worst of the Star Wars films (Empire still being my personal fave.)  But I don't blame Returns failure on the Ewoks, the script and character development was somewhat lackluster.  If anything the Ewoks serverd to distract the audiences attention away from a somewhat mediocre script.

Sorry if this got a bit derailed... but I'm serious about playing Ewok as a race.

I believe the Droid will be a playable race for the Bounty Hunter and Sith.

IMHO, I believe they are going to limit race selection based on class.  That allows them to keep the flavor of the class system in place.

No droid Jedi or Troopers,. Droid Sith and Droid Bounty Hunters will be in.

Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.

Eh, maybe it happened somewhere in the expanded universe, please tell me if it did, but I don't recall there ever being a droid force user.  Not that it wouldn't be fun, but as far as I know it isn't "possible" in Star Wars lore.

Droids as main playable class is fail.  People can not identify with droids. Only thing I see possible is a General Grevious type droid which is a hybrid.
