    Hahahah.

I spent around 4 months away from these forums, and guess what I read when I come back?

The same old "...creative minds of Blizzard that made the super original concepts of Warcraft and Starcraft!"

    Really.. priceless.

    Ultima Online 98~04
    Dark Age of Camelot 03~07
    Final Fantasy XI 04~06
    Guild Wars 05~08
    World of Warcraft 04~05
    Unsuccessful Tries: DFO/EQ2/DRaja/Rag/Req/RYL/9D/Cabal/KO/PSU/RF/GE/TO/TR/DDO/EVE/LoTRO/L2/RZ/SWG/VG

Doesn't mean that blizz doesn't make a great game.

(most of the end-game raids, now, can be completed by Joe Newbie Bloggs and his 9-24 little sheep with no more than a pre-written raid guide that's usually available before the raid instance has even been released to live servers)

Please list all the games this doesnt apply towards.

I think with 134 posts here, Blizzard has shown that eitherways has an elevated nunber of fans and the licking method was a total success!

Good stuff............I'm not done with World of Warcraft and around the corner is Diablo

They didn't steal enough from everquest, and I stopped playing world of warcraft because they kept dumbing it down making it easier to level, and there was not enough individual quest content for the various classes. because eventually it's ok report to this guy, go kill these things...ok done, next character oops Im now in westfall getting the quests for the deadmines, and oh look he's back again...for the 275 millionth time.  I don't care that the quests are repetitive from character to character but more class specific content would have been nice.   What I'd love to see is  a slightly modern supernatural mmo, magic, mystical creatures, psychics, oh wait, Blizzard needs to pickup the mmo rights for Rifts....

For me its obious, Blizzard is going to make a sci-fi game:

Located in a galaxy, far far "close?"

Where there is a organization of monks that use energy "axes?" and have powers to control the "flux?"

And then you can play in the good "flux" and bad "flux" side and be a "flux" user, a bounty hunter, a smugler, etc.

The next "original" IP from Blizzard is going to be called Stars "Battles"

Im not sure where Tolkien got his ideas, i would guess mythology but if you think on it, every fantasy game owes much to him. So i guess you could say all fantasy MMO's are Tolkien clones.

I recommend "The Annotated Hobbit". The side notes illustrate how remarkably ingenious this man was when it came to paying his own unique form of homage to languages, traditions, and folklore.

This thread really is pointless.  The fact is, there's nothing new under the sun.  This game was inspired by that game, which was inspired by another game, which was inspired by an earlier game, which was inspired by kids playing pretend in the backyard, which was inspired by primitive religion, which was inspired by mythology, which was inspired by funny shaped clouds that the natives couldn't explain .... and so on.

Who exactly is going to claim infringement?  Warhammer?  No.  They were inspired by a predecessor.  EQ?  nope.  They were inspired by a predecessor.  Maybe Tolkien?  Even he was inspired.  It's true, he was able to write a colorful story that appeals to, well, almost everybody, but even he didn't just reach into the bottom of his soul and pull out a never before thought of  idea.  He rearranged the concepts, and threw in some of his own fluff and ended up with a wonderful story, but when you strip it down to its core, it's recycled from pre-existing ideas.

Did blizzard rehash ideas that had already been expressed by someone else? Absolutely.  And so did every other game that's ever been designed.

Even the most quote unquote orginal titles are just some new spin on an old idea.  You can only have so many fantasy type formats.  You can only have so many sci-fi platforms.  You can only have so many superhero experiences.  Sooner or later, they all begin to emulate one another.  It's a fact.  Accept it, and hope that the next not-so-original idea is entertaining.

Tolkien was a genious. We wouldn't have the same perception of orcs/goblins/halflings/etc. if at all if it wasn't for him. Almost all fantasy takes influence from his work.

Well here after reading some 15 pages of posts, and find myself scratching my head and wondering, what the new IP might be.

But after reading page after page, I find myself reading but x stole y's old IP.  I found myself laughing. So lets make a Goblin Model and call it an Orc, and We'll make a Orc model and call it a goblin, that way I am not stealing from Tolken, GW,  WC, or WoW.  The bottom line is it is a game. I hate playing, or watching Golf.  Does that mean it is a game I should trash, because I personally do not like it. NO!  It's a game. Some people like Playing 40K, some people Like playing WoW, some people like playing Runescape ( I know hard to believe But I seen it with my own eyes).

In Closing let everyone play what they like, and if they stole from others companys, then so be it. Let their legal deapartment handle it, and let the games be the games to the people who like to play them. I am going to go back to playing Solitaire, BTW who does Microsoft send the royalties to for this, it seems like the art work on the cards are the same.

But I've never personally gotten into these games.

I agree with this, everybody makes a big deal about Blizzard games, but I've seen better in each category.

    Tried: WoW
Played: EQ, EQII, AO, SWG, NGE-SWG, LoTRO, WAR, Vanguard, Eve, WWIIOL, Guild Wars, Darkfall, AoC.
    Playing: DAoC.
    Waiting For: SW:TOR.

i think that Tolkein got his ideas as a mix from mythology, as well as historic events, etc.

I sure do hope, erg all this wonderful speculation, is that the new MMO is going to be sci-fi based.  I crave a good sci fi MMORPG.

mmm ... I guestimate this new game is going to be Fallout3 apocolyptica meets Age of Conan playstyle/controls

called Fall of Age.. craft.. or something

Exactly.  If Blizzard would make a MMO that isn't simplified, dumbed down, and made easier at the whim of whiners then maybe they'd have a winning product like they did when world of warcraft FIRST launched.  When I play I'm not looking for the epic level god mode difficulty but when I go through the entire game to lvl 70 get bored sell my account, and then later get a new account and go wow WTH are they doing making it easier...it was SIMPLE the first time.  If people think they need a speedy way to max level then they are not enjoying the game and just trying to be the *best* and that is why you get these people at really high level who can't do an instance as they have no clue what they are doing.  When asked how they got to where they were...oh I have friends who helped me level.  Also, they need to implement Everquest's skill up system for weapons and stuff, power leveled people by friends would then have a hell of a time leveling their weapons on stuff that might give them xp.  It's just my two cents, take it or leave it, but seriously, look at Eve Online, they make the tutorial clearer to understand and that part simplified which is great, and give people a few bonuses early on, but then it's all gritty hard spend time to skill up in real time.  That game is great for those who like spaceship combat and aren't as good at twitch gaming like some people are.  So there are good things about world of warcraft and bad things, and we all differ on which things are good and bad.  Me, WoW is just bad, it was great, then it got ok then they might have just prepackaged a pile of dog crap and put it on shelves with WOLTK.
