Good grief. Is there anyone who was actually at the siege able to give an account of how it played out? I really don't care if you like the game or not I just want an accounting of the tactics, mechanics, process and outcome. Thanks
@ Respit - sorry, I should have clarified. I got your point. I was simply commenting on the article itself. It probably deserves it's own thread. ~Ripper
No problems here. To be honest, I was a little out of line, my post kind of seemed a little hostile towards you. I apologize.
Anyway, I just get tired of all the justification that gets thrown around. Especially the "you haven't played" nonsense. Good Lord, I don't have to go into Compton at 2 a.m. to know I don't have any desire to do that. But in Darkfall's case, I did. Luckily, it didn't cost me anything but time.
As far as this thread getting off-topic, considering the OP started a new thread concerning it, I figure this one is fair game now.
Risking your life by going into Compton at 2 a.m. would be retarded - kind of like forming an opinion on something you have not actually experienced....like Darkfall.

Lucky we've got people like Fariic and Rhinok to beat you fankiddies down then, isn't it?

Considering how bad a state the economy is in right now. Wasting money is bad. While not as bad as risking your life. That's no reason to just throw money away either.
In War - Victory. In Peace - Vigilance. In Death - Sacrifice.
Our capital of the CoTC, which has never been sieged before because of our vast numbers, is finally being sieged by the most organized alliance in the server. The afghan alliance will most likely have aid from the death, cairn, cactus alliances as well as hired mercenaries. It will become a lagfest possibly with the most people ever in a single siege.
Sweet!... How long 'till we see the video of someone flying off with your Keep?
Here's a repost from my other thread, I guess I should have put it here in the first place. I typed it quickly yesterday
Today was just another typical normal day where we went about our business crafting, training, pvp trips, harvesting and then all of a sudden I look at my system log and enemy forces have been spotted. I was thinking, who cares just another raid, not like they are going to do anything. Then boom - Panic has declared war on Awful Company, Awful Company has been challenged by Panic for control over Mar shral. All of us are like OH CRAP since we've never been sieged. Worst of all, it's one of the best players and clans in the game - afghan alliance. The Mercs/ Rainbow Ninjas/ Panic/ Hail/ Murder herd/ Covert Ops/ as well as the SB Alliance (Vamp, Undead Lords, Shipwrecked pirates, etc.) and others are all against us. It's kinda quiet for the first few minutes and our leaders and diplomats prepare for the defensive siege.
They contact the KFC Alliance north of us who we helped in the past and Dusk who would come later in the end to aid us. We call our entire alliance to come to Mar Shral for defensive procedures. While the time is ticking with about 2-3 hours left before our city goes vulnerable most of our alliance is here on top of our waterfall and clan keep as well as the fighters guild. We are on high ground in order to shoot down at enemies to gain the advantage. As the time nears 1 hr, we are getting more notifications of diplomacy and we ally the KFC alliance and some of Dusk alliance. At this point all of us are geared up and ready waiting for the inevitable battle.I am on the waterfall and sometimes at the clan fighters guild scouting down and looking for enemies that may approach.
Suddenly, one of our leaders discovered that one of the clans in our alliance were betrayers who tried to help the afghan alliance. We promptly kicked them out of our alliance by declaring war on them and killing them as well as removing them from our bindstone. These spies were killed before they could inflict serious damage since our enemies did not show up yet.
As the timer neared 0, we have reports that one of our clan cities, the KGB city called Andruk is being attacked by the Afghans and they even brought out warhulks and cannons and decimated the entire city. Only two structures were left I heard. None of us who were in Mar Shral defending our city went to help because we knew it was a trick to lure our forces out.
Now our city clanstone is vulnerable to attack and our enemies will have 2 hours to attack and capture our city. For some reason they arrive with 1 hr left for them to attack but they show up with their entire force. We have reports of enemies approaching the north gate. I see a load of mounted and geared people from the top of my waterfall. This is where the epic battle begins and I am nervous as ****.
They push in as one of their spies in our alliance opens the gate for them. They infiltrate the city and get inside buildings for cover. At this point, we have reports of enemies coming from the south which is where they will target our bindstone with tons of cannons (I saw at least 7+). We are split while attacking enemies in the north who are trying to get deeper while the main attackers are in the south trying to destroy our bindstone.
We kill most of the enemies in the North and they soon disappear one by one. Now they are not as big of a threat but many are hiding in buildings. We then shift our focus on the south as most in the north are retreating. The situation was looking bad for my alliance since they just destroyed the wall and now can shoot their cannons and spells at our clanstone, therefore damaging it. They get deeper and eventually fight us close up. I rush into them with allies to distract them and it is a pretty long fight. Then I see the wall getting rebuilt and the enemies scramble to run so they don't get trapped inside and picked off. Our clanstone is at 70% health which is pretty safe with a timer of 30 minutes left. I feel much better after I thought they were going to take our city for sure for a second.
Now it is our turn to make a push to kill them off. We rush their cannons and kill the people using them and made them get back little by little. Both sides suffer heavy losses but eventually they are pushed off the plateau and we gain control of it. We destroy their cannons and now they have no chance to win. There is 10 minutes left and we are extremely happy by the fact that we saved the city with the help of allies. We then win the challenge and the money they put up for the siege is given to us since the clan that declared the siege did not have a city officially in their name. We got 184k from them as a result of successfully defending our city. I can't really get in depth because I should be sleeping right now... so tired I forgot lots of parts to summarize, can't remember anything else.I also got a few kills off of fully geared enemies
Here are pictures (doesn't show fighting because I can't take pictures in combat ) :

Despite the bad press it has gotten at times, I've personally found Darkfall to be one of the best games I've ever played. Yes there's a skill grind and it's not perfect, but I'd say it's FAR better than most on the forums would have you believe. There's crazy polotics, backstabbing, spying, Sieges with badass war machines, Mass battle with actual tactics.
The game is freaking awesome if you're into pvp.
QFT. these forums are nothing what the game is like in-game. forums are like where all the whiniest, shittiest, and most immature posters come to vent their emo-rage. at least half the haters still haven't played the game.
EVE gets similar levels of hate about being boring, too hardcore, nothing to do etc but IMO it's also awesome.

And I wouldn't compare Darkfall to Eve. For one thing, Eve is successful.

Nah, not even close. Don't compare this to EvE.
Most of the people who tried and didn't like EvE at least acknowledge that it's a great, complex game with a steep learning curve. DF is very poor, has the complexity of a Mario game, and is the most shallow thing I've ever seen with the worst UI /controls of any game. The only "challenge" in DF is to be able to look past all of it's glaring problems and play the game the way it's meant to be. This, I concede, requires hardcoreness to the extreme and DF fanbois excel at it. I applaud you. EvE has the best community of any MMO in my opinion, while DF has the worst.
Really, EvE is the opposite of DF in just about everything. Sorry, but it doesn't deserve being compared to this joke of a game.

Well we all know how extremely skillfull it is to sit at a gate and whack everything that comes through...anyone that can do that could clearly do almost anything, ... at least in EVE.
And Darkfall is where all the whiniest, shittiest, and most immature players go to vent their emo-rage on pixels. Makes it about even, eh? And I wouldn't compare Darkfall to Eve. For one thing, Eve is successful.
Actually the big whiners in DF are WOW players who get their ass kicked and their loot taken and then go cry on forums about being a victim of a "hacker" and DF is crappy cause it doesn't have WOW-like PVE content, protections and shit like hireable NPC henchmen.
Darkfall has been under massive demand and sold out since release, despite $0 marketing. please enlighten us how any rational person* could say DF has not been successful?
* note: carebears with an anti-DF agenda are not rational.
One of the things that lowers your rank is when posts of your have to be deleted. What I don't know, however, is whether or not that includes posts in threads that were deleted for other reasons or just posts that were explicitly deleted due to RoC violations. I've never had a post explicitly deleted (or at least I've never received any notification that was the case), but I've had several detailed posts deleted in threads like "Confessions of a Darkfall Hacker".
I've never really paid attention to rank, but since you bring it up, it's interesting that Javac's is so incredibly low, even though he has a pretty high post count and posts on a regular basis.
Not really, we all know this forum is heavily in favour of hating on darkfall. Anyone that likes it and expresses that gets banned and deleted, while the haters continue on unmolested. this forum is shit and is full of shit.
Or, it could be due to quality posts like this... That's clearly a well thought out and detailed answer, logical and free from hyperbole and angst, much like this one:

So massive a demand that the shop has been open for a week, yet the game still doesn't appear to have any significant player population increases, especially in the starter towns where you'd expect to see them?
How do you define success?
It took them 8 years to deliver a product that's still closed beta quality, at best. This is evidenced by the type of changes they've implemented since the game went live. Adding art assets, changing mob AI, world building, adding in a trade channel, etc..? Should have been done prior to launch. After all, the game was in some stage of development for 8 years! After 8 years, Aventurine should have hit a home run! How is that successful?
Over the years, they designed and promoted a game that was bigger and better, with more features and that would be appealing to a larger number of players, but delvered a game that's limping along on a skeleton of what it was supposed to be. Diehard fans blow all that off and call the game niche and hardcore. How is that successful?
Cheating in the game is rampant, whether it be from 3rd party tools, macros or exploits. The game is only 3 months old! How is that succesful?
Their account management system is horrible! There's still an active 138 page thread with complaints about account issues. On top of that, their account management system isn't synchronized with game accounts as evidenced by the emails the banned cheaters received (you need to remove your billing information or risk being charged, even though the account was banned). That lack of proper account management and synchronization can adversely affect legitimate players, too. How is that successful?
The server can allegedly handle up to 10k concurrent users, but there never seem to be more than 1 or 2 thousand on at any given time. The single largest reported event was allegedly for 2k players and nothing like that has been reported since. On top of that, the game is nigh unplayable for anybody not involved in a siege if there are a couple of sieges going on (a typical occurence on the weekend). So, even though the game is allegedly optimzed for up to 10k concurrent users, the experience is poor even though there might only be 1 or 2k players actually online if sieges are occurring at the same time. How is that successful?
Is it financially succesful? Even using your generous estimate of 20k players, Aventurine only stands to make maybe 4.2 million Euros gross (assuming a generous 50k sold @ 42 EUR/copy + 9 months @ 11,77 EUR/month for 20k members) by the end of their first year, even though Tasos stated in an interview on alpha.tv that they'd make back their 10 million EUR development costs by the start of 2010? They're not financially succesful.
I'm a rational person. I'm even playing Darkfall, but I recognize that both it and Aventurine have huge faults and I don't consider Darkfall to be a success, either as a game or financially, as a result.
Wow. I think rhinok just became my new forum hero. He plays the game, but he has a brain? Call Dr. Tasos, one escaped from the funny farm! He is still capable of rational thought!
Also, hilarious title. I guess tomorrow morning will be an epic sunset in Darkfall, too. Big battles are always nice, I suppose, even in a game like Darkfall.
And Darkfall is where all the whiniest, shittiest, and most immature players go to vent their emo-rage on pixels. Makes it about even, eh? And I wouldn't compare Darkfall to Eve. For one thing, Eve is successful.

Tell you what:
I'll sit here with 1,000,000 uber pieces of paper. But I'll limit sales to 10 per day. At the end of every ten sales, I'll put up a "sold out" sign.
Look at that, i'm an overnight success!!
Your argument fails on so many levels that the only reason I can fathom you are here is because the game you paid to play obviously sucks but you're trying desperately to justify the waste of money and time instead of just sucking it up and admitting Darkfall sucks.

You know the "success" of DnF struck me tonight while I was letting the game level up my swimming for a few hours.
There have been NO in game or email gold seller offers or offers to level up characters. It is so "in demand" that the Chinese gold farmers are even ignoring the game.
Now that really is scraping the bottom of the barrel when the gold farmers ignore you.

Not necessarely a bad thing but nowadays as soon as an MMO releases there is some way of buying currency and other services but DFO has not been even touched by it, cause its just an empty market. You can even find currency for vanguard and that game is pretty empty.

do not, in any shape, form, or fashion... EVER compare eve to this so-called game supposedly named darkfall.
you need to edit your message and delete all references to eve. your post makes baby Jesus cry.
oh and um, all the whiny immature folks on the forums... worse are ingame.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

I'm a rational person. I'm even playing Darkfall, but I recognize that both it and Aventurine have huge faults and I don't consider Darkfall to be a success, either as a game or financially, as a result.

Wow. I think rhinok just became my new forum hero. He plays the game, but he has a brain? Call Dr. Tasos, one escaped from the funny farm! He is still capable of rational thought!
Also, hilarious title. I guess tomorrow morning will be an epic sunset in Darkfall, too. Big battles are always nice, I suppose, even in a game like Darkfall.

-Letting Derek Smart work on your game is like letting Osama bin Laden work in the White House. Something will burn.-
-And on the 8th day, man created God.-
You know the "success" of DnF struck me tonight while I was letting the game level up my swimming for a few hours.
There have been NO in game or email gold seller offers or offers to level up characters. It is so "in demand" that the Chinese gold farmers are even ignoring the game.
Now that really is scraping the bottom of the barrel when the gold farmers ignore you.
"If you were as smart as you think you are, you would realize that you are an idiot"
Not necessarely a bad thing but nowadays as soon as an MMO releases there is some way of buying currency and other services but DFO has not been even touched by it, cause its just an empty market. You can even find currency for vanguard and that game is pretty empty.
so this thread is about goons siege or how successful is df ?
BestSigEver :P
It was overtaken by trolls a while back.
QFT. these forums are nothing what the game is like in-game. forums are like where all the whiniest, shittiest, and most immature posters come to vent their emo-rage. at least half the haters still haven't played the game.
EVE gets similar levels of hate about being boring, too hardcore, nothing to do etc but IMO it's also awesome.
do not, in any shape, form, or fashion...
