Agreed I've played a lot of MMO's over the last few years but none have had the storyline of games like mentioned. "offline" games put a lot more effort into story and immersion than MMOs do
People seem to always want to make a connections between this game and darkfall. really they are too different games. For some reason people think this game is all about siege warfare and hardcore pvp. But if you look harder at this game and a lot of the realism elements of this game i think it is really trying to be a more casual roma victor.
You didn't answer my question: Does it have a good amount of PvE and story elements?
If it doesn't, then it's not worth calling it an MMORPG. It's just some PvP online game.
Check MortalOnline PowerPoint Presentation on the official site and will understand more about general aspects of the game. Here are some paragraphs about PvE in it:
...Nave, the game world, has a deep history and lore. Exploring the old chronicles and ruins in the world may lead to important discoveries and clues to the present and future...
...Scattered around the world are also points of interest, where player collaboration can impact the game environment. Examples range from strategic points where bridges can be built (or destroyed), ruins that can be restored (or destroyed), to NPC strongholds that can be eradicated...
... Legendary creatures are often interconnected to the world and may affect it in a number of ways. This means some factions will want to protect them, some will want to destroy them, and some will want to use them for their own personal gain...
...In Mortal Online, you don’t kill the boss 100 times and die once or twice – the boss kills you 100 times and die once. And then stays dead...
...Shy creatures often choose to flee, and so may outnumbered enemies that otherwise would have been aggressive. NPC’s will also travel in groups, where different individuals have their own designated roles..."
...Even more common creatures will have combat tactics you’ll need to learn: a lion will try to knock you over to bite you, and rare creatures like big trolls will try to pick you up!...
There is also complex, similar to real life crafting. For that details just check that ppt.
At last "Full loot PvP" do not mean only PvP. PvP cannot live without deep PvE content. PvP come in play around PvE. You just have to know where you go and what is the risk. Outside of that you can play entirely PvE but for your safety will depend on PvP players as example mercenaries guilds.

So I saw a thread similar to this one and decided to make the post the OP should have made: A warning for casual, carebear gamers to leave right now, rather than a whiny complaint that a new MMO will require more than a few mouse and keyboard clicks. This game will not hold your hand. It won't give you a map even, requiring you to make your own. I can't wait to make them and either sell them or give them to friends. You won't be able to /tell anyone right away, nor send out global chat. Love that too. If I don't know you, I don't want to talk to you or hear the latest Chuck Norris joke or how great it feels when you receive fellatio from your sister's hot friend. And if I CAN see that type of thing in my chat box, I'll be close enough to throw my sword into your gut. And believe me, I'll do it without hesitation. There will be Open PVP with few restrictions, though your actions will have consequences. Yes, you can be killed potentially anytime, anywhere. Combine this with chat restrictions and I'd wager few if any bots, gold farmers, kiddie jokes, or the other crap that makes most mainstream MMOs unbearable enters the game. I can't wait to full item loot some WoW kid who thought he could make the transition and be uber l33t right away. Building/attacking cities, homes, mounted combat, siege weapons, and a seamless game world shouldn't be a playground for the carebears anyway. Frankly, carebears don't deserve features like this, particularly after the last six years in MMO gaming has done nothing but appeal to the lowest common denominator. Here's the thing. Mortal Online is slated to be a true MMORPG. In short a Massively MULTIPLAYER Online ROLEPLAYING Game I emphasize "multiplayer" and "roleplaying" to stress that this genre has been twisted and contorted by the MSOGs (Massively Singleplayer Online Games) such as WoW and many others. Whatever multiplayer features they offer absolutely pales in comparison to what this genre originally demanded of people. In short, the carebears have thier MMOs. They can go play them right now. Mortal Online is for those of us who take our gaming seriously and who want a real challenge in our games, rather than a virtual morphine injection every time we slay a boar near Brill. Don't come here complaining that the game is too hard, or that it doesn't cater to the "casual" players. It was never designed or supposed to do that. If you do, we will laugh at your stupidty and make fun of your weak gaming abilities. And yes, I'm an arrogant bastard when it comes to MMOs whose tolerance for the cookie-cutter WoW-esque crap has run dry.
You sound like the typical MMO coward to me. Person who likes to gank and pick on easy targets and then talk tough. Why else would you post like this on a forum?
Btw, open PVP games rarely have PVP that needs skilled players. For skilled PVP you should check a game where both sides are evened out. Guild Wars GvG for example. But i dont think you could handle that, because you would actually have a learning curve and need to learn how to work with a team. No room for epeen loving internet machos in there.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that you emphasized 'roleplaying' but never elaborated on that. Just to show how incoherent your rambling is.
In real MMO PvP is not like multiplayer games. Its all about a general strategy - when, who, how to attack and to know when to retreat. You must have much more common sight on the situation than in game when players are always equal numbers. Also friendly fire with good strategy can turn the battle in advantage agains outnumbered enemy.

Lmao, OP of this thread really is a geek. Never seen anyone take a game this seriously.
And also, ppl that say WoW is easy, yeah sure it is, its easy to level its easy to get into.
But since when is the end game content easy? Since wotlk, before that it was never easy for the most.
For those who says it is easy havnt even reached max lvl or tried the game.
I see you are talking about the difficulty of the fight, but when talking about sandbox MMO we have to talk about general gameplay, enviroment and personal decision about your actions . Thats why there is "massive" word in MMO. I do not expect to understand what that mean because WoW have compleate lack of it, and that is the main difference between sandbox and theme park games.
PS: WoW end game content is difficult as long as you do things wrong. Once you get proper gear and do execution plan step by step correctly it become piece of cacke. That is because boss fights are too predefined and do not need "just in time player decisions".
PS2: With phrase "it was never easy for the most" you just give me a clue about that "most" :P.

Yeah mmos have crap stories but so does Diablo and Quake 2, you obviously aren't playing the right games.
Too bad the game looks terrible. { Mod Edit: Language. }
Hey, I disagree!
Lyngton that's not true at all, the game has awesome graphics....
IMO you have no idea about whats an FPS too. You should also ask others "whats an FPS" ?
FPS sands for (F)irst (P)erson (P)erspective and has nothing to do with a game is sandbox or not.

Even so, the label "MMORPG" has nothing to do with PVE.
Why can't someone just make Oblivion or a Fallout mmo so we have a real reason to use first person view ?
