Darkfall just hit a new record, 800 players in one area with no lag. Shadowbane comes in close second, up to 200 with no lag, 600 with no server crash. Has any other game accomplished this feat?
Name your game, with proof, that its had more than 800 in one area with no problems.

The video seemed a little.. boring. But good for Darkfall.
I've never played, but I'll at least give the players credit for coordinating the battle.
p.s. those mounts around the beginning.. look... out of place.
Hey TSW Players http://www.unfair.co/ for Mission guides, Lore Locations and stuff....
Aion just beasted that record with a over 5000 players beta release within 4 channels and no signs of lag.
I hadn't though of that.. But LOL, that's true.

Could they see each other, or throw a rock at each other? If so, Kudo's.

Those are channels, that's not one zone. If you go by channel then Guild wars has even more.
Nice video, but there was lag seen in that video. I saw several people floating and or dropping from the atleast 10 feet off the ground. This is not to say that was not a lot of people, because it was. I also was sitting behind someone while watching that war live. Pretty intense stuff but seemed to get boring at times. He experienced quite some lag for awhile and we were sitting inside a gaming center with a pretty solid connect. This really doesn't matter though, as it should be if you had a blast or not. GJ though, and whoever makes those HD vids give him a pat to. I think Aion will be able to hold large battles like this pretty easily, as the Crytek engine is pretty solid for allowing massive amounts of people in one area.
Four channels.
5000 divided by 4 equals 1200.
I believe 1200 is a bigger number than 800.
Happens regularly in EVE Online. System: Jita 4-4
I know, I know.. EVE is space, there is no avatars, yadda yadda yadda...
I'm not following the 5,000 thing, though. According to NCSoft Ayase "What we have said for now is that an estimated ~5000 players should be able to be online at the same time, on the same server," which means that those players are split up among the various zones of the game. You have 2 races, and each race has at least 4 or 5 zones, right? And at least two of those zones on each side have 4 channels each, correct? How did we get 5,000 / 4?

When you add trees and rivers as part of your criteria for the validity of a concurrent user count, you need to step back and question whether you are trying to assess a number or just trying to dismiss the numbers you don't want to hear. However, to humor you...
How about 1,000 in a single system all engaged in combat? Or does it still not count because there are no trees or rivers in space?
EDIT: I'm also very curious how you play MMOs since you find it worthy of note that EVE players sit in a chair.
Cheers!

There was only a race available on the preview events, a /who 15 minutes after the release showed 5800 players.
So, let me get this straight, you have to beat on the wall of the castle
(which has a life bar) until it just disappears?
Why didn't you use the door? are there no battering rams in this game?
Also, as soon as the wall came down on that castle the lag started to appear really bad in certain parts and I could see from the video it was editied out very slightly.
So, you fail at there being 800 players with no lag etc...yawn.
Ah, cool! Thanks for the info, Ephimero

Am I the only one that gets a bit lost when there's more than 50 or 60 people on the battle field? In UO it was easy to handle large scale battles because everyone just color coded their capes or robes. In newer MMOs, I find that I get lost in a sea of colored name tags and highlighting that completely detracts from the battle and, at times, gets ridiculously confusing.

But only only one race was playable and witha lvl 20 cap there was only a few places for peeps to go

god i remember some of the SWG fights, i could not tell who was who
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
Planetside.
Also anyone remember when they did that stress test event on the test server and they didn't put a pop lock on the island and there was like 3000 people in that battle. I don't know if it was lag free cause I was using 56K at the time as my brodband went down so I had a very very high ping.
Well I play Darkfall and lag is present everywhere where you have masses of people fighting. So I will just call you a big fat prevaricator!
Secondly, while Darkfall can claim to have less lag than other MMO's in large fights, they do it by moving some decision making to the client, which in essence a really dumb thing to do. Because the hackers can alter the decisions without any knowledge by the server. Hence all the hacks for this game and there are more coming.
The only thing Darkfall will be known for is how not to write a MMO.
Darkfall looks like crap and plays even worse lol. Also there is 0 proof of how many people participated so this post is pointless. Your side did not look like it had close to 200 tbh. Next record broken by Darkfall, fastest closing down of a game lol.
Nah, its the only game like it, that is new-ish , on the market currently, so it will not close because there is nothing else worthy to be played.

Mortal Online is nipping at Darkfall's heals. If I were those in Adventurine I would be shaking in my boots for fear of entering the unemployment statistics.

You wouldn't understand
"No lag" and "playable" have different definitions to different people I guess. Some people think 3 or 4 FPS is playable. I don't=) Like others have said, once you start getting over 100 people on screen or in the same area, good luck following the action.
Eve plays by its own rules, since a whole bunch of dots on a radar can be considered a BATTLE, so can it even be compared? It litterally is like watching a spreadsheet move around. How can you compare that to actual avatars jumping, firing spells, swinging axes, running around trees up and over hills, through doors, over walls, ect. You really can't.
Record for an MMORPG? Heheheh, not even close. 2D MMORPG smoke this record any day any time. Not counting 2D MMORPG, Lineage 2 reach 1000 people in 1 castle siege easy. That's all in 1 area.
Talking about 2D MMORPG, there's a Chinese game call Zhengtu Online or ZT Online in short could handle 10,000 players in 1 battle field no problem (Yep, that reads ten thousand players). They call those "10,000 people battle". That game, albeit 2D, has amazing server techonology. One server shard/world could handle 43,000 players concurrently (that's their new 2008 records).
In a 2D game, you have limited view but still, 10,000 players in 1 area is not an easy feat. I would like to see a 3D game could achieve that feat.
Ugh... I watched that video. I do not see proof of 800 people in one area, much less "with no problem".
In fact, I referred to that same video in another post I'd made stating how the video was showing a significant amount of lag and stuttering when more people were in the area fighting. Around 5:20 it's practically a slide show, and it visibly lags up at other points in the video as well. What's with that horrible "stuttering" starting at around 8:20, and really getting bad at 8:30?
I'm sorry.. .but that video is proof of, perhaps 100 or so people in one area at the same time fighting - with very visible lag. There's nowhere near 800 people in one area at any time in that video.
I seriously don't know how people can make those kinds of claims about these videos and not realize that others are going to notice all the inconsistencies between what they *say* the videos show, and what the videos actually show.
That said, some weeks ago, Tasos claimed there were 2000 people fighting it out in DF in one area with no lag... Of course, that had nothing to back it up either and it was pretty much concluded that there were 2000 people across a region, but they were not in the same area. I guess they gave up on that, eh?

You know, I'm seeing this argument more and more.
So, is this is truly the official line that DF fans are using now to claim DF is better than Eve?
Seriously?
Unbelievable.
