I live in the states and play on Elendilmir because it seems to have a good amount of players on no matter what time I decide to play. I play mostly during the evening hours although on occassion I do pull a late nighter and still seem to have a decent amount of players around due to many oceanic players playing on the server as well as people from NA.  The community on that server tends to be helpful with questions and advice from everything I have seen.  Grouping is rather easy on that server from my own personal experience mostly due to the amount of people playing the game on Ele.

The only complaint I really have about Ele is there are times some people in the global lff channel turn it into Barrens chat and act like idiots.  Other than that its a pretty cool server.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

Started about a month ago on Bandywine. Level 25 now and through all the areas I've traveled I always see other players. The server is busy and I've had almost no issues finding a fellowship when I've needed help. Even got a level 60 to help my group plow through the Great Barrows and show us where everything was. Very friendly community. Reason I left Everquest 2 was because I could never find people to group with. Think I'll be staying here (at least until SW:TOR comes out).

I've played on Silverlode since the beginning of game and never had stability issues.  The community is mature and there are some great Kinships there. ( Fat Smokin Hobbits and Band of the Red Hand to name two)  The best part of Silverlode for me is the matureity level of the players. Join us and check it out!

Meneldor is the best all-around server, IMO. A very healthy population, and a great community. Many great kinships, too.

Well, I wouldn't suggest Landroval. People aren't very friendly or helpful there.

I've often thought about transferring my character to Elendilmir, but I've already thrown way too much money at a game I don't really enjoy.

R.I.P. City of Heroes and my 17 characters there

I play on Landroval, and have had nothing but good experiences... Friendly people, great Kin, help in the Advice channel etc..

I tried Brandywine for a few days - the difference wast notcieable, at lower levels at least - very "Barrens Chat"

I'll have to 2nd the Silverload vote.  I've never created a character on another server so I have nothing to compare it to, but the community there seems very friendly and helpful (for the most part).

    Good luck in your search!

So I think the conclusion is that there is not one stand out community :p Brandywine seems fine that's what I play on.

Gotta love the 'unofffical' Role play server Landroval :)

I play on landroval as well and I have nothing but good experiences, also lots of RP events if you're into that sort of thing.

Yep I've had lots of good experiences also, the only thing I hate though, is there is not enough light-rp guilds, but alot of medium-heavy rp guilds :)

I  went into the same problem as you to find a server. I started 2 weeks ago on Brandywine, but I quickly switched. Brandywine is a good server to find fellowship, but at the same time, there is way too many peoples running around. The lag is horrible, especially in Bree. If you are not in an instance, it can be a nightmare to finish quests and you even have to wait in line to kill a boss. Soloing is also a nightmare since you hit yourself on other peoples everytime doing the same quest as you and farming the same mob.

I went to Windfolla (server suggested by Turbine) and it was a completly empty server. Started as a elf and only saw 2 others persons. Even Cerodim and the elf town next to it were empty. So Windfolla=dead server for new people. So I went to Meneldor and I have 0 regret. Medium sized server, lot of kinships and ton of new players. I can solo and get lost in the forest without meeting anyone or I can get a group fast by asking in the lff chat. Great community, I don't group often, but the time I did I only meet nice peoples who helped me a lot getting around :)

I've played exclusively on Landroval, and have found the community there to be top-notch (compared to the communities in other games I've played going all the way back to original EQ).  Never have I found (1) more helpful people in the /advice channel (without obligatory smart-ass comments) and (2) less annoying OOC chat than I have found on LotRO Landroval.

Unfortunately I can't comment on the other servers for comparison purposes, as I've never tried them.  There may in fact be a server even better than Landroval, but I'm happy where I am.

Also - lag seems non-existent to me (except in certain spots within Moria) and the RP is quite prevalent, but certainly far from mandatory (you can identify players who have their RP flag on by the color of their nametag - white=RP, yellow=non-RP).

Ive been playing LotRO for a month now and I have a 32 Rune Keeper on Brandywine.

What Ive noticed is that as I progress through the zones the community gets worse and worse.

Kill Stealing, Quest Item Stealing and Node Stealing.
Its gotten kinda bad. In other MMOs I have played when someone is standing on a quest item or a node its accepted that you have "claimed" it and that you are killing the enemies around it to harvest it. If the player does not harvest it when out of combat you can go and harvest it. From what Ive experienced in LotRO is if you are standing on a node and fighting then it means someone else cleared it for you and you are free to swoop in and steal it.

Same with kill stealing. If Im setting up and casting a spell to attack an elite please dont rush in and tag it.

What I find very funny is that people will randomly start bashing WoW for having a bad community. I am not talking about isolated instances either. Nearly every day there has been WoW bashing conversations in the /advice channel. You dont prop up your game by trying to bring down a different game. Once, for fun on a low level alt, I chimed in a conversation about MMOs with "WoW is a pretty good game", this of course set off a fire storm.

The truly ironic thing is that I havent seen any of the bad behaviour I have seen in LotRO in WoW in quite some time.

I have not sought a Fellowship(guild) in LotRO because my first month ends tomorrow and I dont know if I will continue my subscription.

You have these kinds of turds in EVERY game. In EVERY game there is always a stupid WoW discussion going on in the general chat channel. That's why most of the time I just turn them off.

Most of the time it's some turds on a trial account, who will be gone at the end of the trial.

Most people of the real (actual subscribed) server community just play the game and have fun.

Most irritating experience I had in several MMO's is that you got some low lives from WoW creating trial accounts in other MMO's (the one you are playing and enjoying) and start trolling in the general chats about how good WoW is and how shitty your game is.

I have never seen that kind of stuff happening in WoW, where people from other MMO's come to WoW to bash it in general chat, just to promote theirs.

So you see... this kind of stuff happens everywhere unfortunately.

I myself, I am playing on the EU-EN RP Laurelin server for almost 2 years and had only great experience so far. By far one of the best communities I have ever experienced in any MMO. (Eclypse server in pre-NGE SWG was still the best!)

    Cheers

Brandywine is good, little of bit of l33t at the high end though and tidbits of kinship drama makes it interesting sometimes expecially when your kin has the servers best mini.

I don't know how you can say that because you have those types of selfish pricks in every mmo I've played.  It certainly has gotten a lot worse over time but that's across the board not specific to any mmorpg in particular and they are around in WoW just as they are in LotR.  Wish they would all just fall off a cliff but what can you do?  I just make note of them and ensure I'll never party with them at a future date.

I really don't understand this question.

Why not just ask "Which server do you play on?"

People are just going to say Their Server's Name.

  • DarkRanger65DarkRanger65 Member Posts: 83

Actually I play on two different servers.

In the mornings(PST) I play on Brandywine when the pop is healthy enough to find groups but not too crowded with lots of Barrens Chat.

On weekends and in the evenings (after 10PM PST) I play on Firefoot which is probably the lowest pop server but at those times there are enough people on it to group with and to give advice.

I have dabled some on other servers and if you want something in between the above servers I would recommend Meneldor or Silverlode.

MMO Played-EQ, EQ2, WOW, DDO, GW, COH, Vanguard, WAR

I play on Brandywine, and I play a little just about every day.  I have never had this experience.  Usually people will wait to see if you're fighting for the node, or just killing for a quest..  You've had some bad experiences, or people are just out to get you.  I've played MANY MMO's, LotRO and CoX are the best communities I have come across.  They are extremely helpful and most are kind.  Sure. there is a bit of drama at times, but par for the course for an MMO.  In WoW, when I played.  resource hunting was a pain, and the community was horrible.  But, of course, people have their own experiences.  Hope you find happiness in your next gaming adventure.

I currently play on Nimrodel and I really like the comminuty there. My guild does raids every Saturday, which is great because I really only have time to play on weekends. The population is good -- not overcrowded but not empty either. I am almost always able to find someone I can group with to complete quests.

Honestly wish i could answer you. Been a couple years since I played. Game was great except for one flaw that I could not over look, the wife did not like playing it and we try to play our mmos together so that means back to yet another wow server. Shame though the game was fun.
