Are you pre-ordering Mortal Online?

sickansickan Member Posts: 166

I sure am. Just want to get a sense on how many more will, and how much I have to fight to get my LE-box!

Edit: The poll is only for you that really want to play it, if you dont want to play it, simply ignore the poll. Thx! ;o)

Yes I will pre-order, I will try and get the LE, if I cant, I will try and get a box, if I cant I will try digitally, dunno how many ppl are actually pre-ordering but I have the feeling that 10k copies (for good or for worse) will go quite quickly.

I dont expect the game to be complete nor bug free, but as long as they keep developing it, keep faithfull to their original design, and listen to the community, it should turn out to be a good sandbox. Ofc this assumes the Core of the gameplay is somewhat playable.

Too many people get too excited about new MMOs. They become fans of a game they have never played and only know what the marketing people at the company producing the game tell them. They get very defensive and abusive to anyone who points out any potential faults and begin to slag off all other games. They proclaim their game to be the greatest.

They think about the game all the time. they imagine how amazing its going to be and how their guild will make a massive impact. They see the game as being the first 'true next gen game'

    Then it releases.

They find out that while it has lots of cool ideas it also is pretty buggy just like every single other MMO ever released. Some of the features promised aren't there. There is a grind of some sorts even though the marketing people said their wasn't (who would have thought marketing people would lie!). The end game is pretty sparce even though the marketing people told you that there was so much you would never get fed up (marketing gotta lov em) Balance is all over the shop as people are playing very different to how they played in beta. There are a lot of exploits and hacks that people discovered in beta but didn't tell the devs about so they could get an advantage in live. Some people are playing 20+ hours a day and are getting all the glory you imagined for yourself. Patches come and the game is slowly getting better and better. Content is being added and things are a little more balanced, BUT...

New game XXXXX is coming in 6 months. it promises soooo much and the marketing people say its going great (why wouldn't you believe the marketing people, they would never lead you wrong) so you abandon your game but not the forums as you plan to spend the next 6 months trolling anyone who still plays it and likes it. You now have plenty of time to start the whole process over again.

No, I wont be buying into the hype. This game will launch half finished and with lots of bugs and balance will be bad. This isn't because they are bad devs its because its how all MMOs launch. if you don't believe that then you are very new. It might prove to be a fantastic game, but anyone who thinks its going to be amazing at launch is doomed to disapointment.

Waiting on patch 1.3-1.5 before I buy in.

We know next to nothing about the game...why would I pre-order?

  • horridhorrid Member Posts: 129

as an aussie - no.  300ms+ ping at best..west coast aussie so probably closer to 400ms+ = unplayable game.  When a US server is released I will think about it.

You dont have to, there is plenty of info, just like any other game on an early stage there are loads of QAs on their website , just not concrete in game info about it yet, the devs have said they ran out of funds and need the 10k pre-orders to continue developing it, now it might turn out to be another pile of shit, or they might actually manage to continue development of MO to a decent standard, since I do want to play the "Final" fully working design that is planned for MO i am willing to invest 25 odd pounds in the project since no big budget company  has any MMO of this kind in their pipeline.

Either way you can make an educated decision wether you want to pre-order or not, they have said what they plan to do, and whats the state in which you will be pre-ordering, they clearly said "its an unfinished product we need further funding to continue development" , its wether you deem it a good investment or not.

Well, I know all I need to know just of following the forums (not here, www.mortalonline.com/forums) and how close and open/honest the devs are. That will do fine for me!

@ kazmx -> Well, if you read the newsletter and understood the text it is a pre-order for the launch, and you will be able to play the open beta, so yes, it is to "book" your copy of the finished game, but play it until it goes gold. Just as the other game just released did it, exept they called it a finished release (which we all know it is not)!

If I can play the open beta and help out (no monthly fee until it goes gold (let it be 1 month, or even better a couple of months)) I would gladely do it. Then I dont have to wait to play it and do the cueing again when all other is trying to buy it!

Nope. Gonna wait for the reports from all the suckers that do first then see if it's worth quitting DF over it. Which it probably will be. But I want proof first :)

Eh? there is quite a bit of info on what they plan to have in the game. Unless you are referring to things like game play videos and jank.

Definitely going to preorder, digital download is fine by me.  I'm looking forward to getting in on the beta as well as getting an early start in setting up a guild.  I've often gone guildless in mmo's before, but this is one game where having lots of support will be a necessity.

If its only $10 - 15 i don't mind testing their product to help along with its development.  However, if they are asking full price then there I'll just wait for the free trial.

Edit:   Just picked this up from MO forums.   Green is forum user and Orange is a dev

Sorry, but no. We want to make sure that we list the correct prices (we're not just randomly picking numbers) and we're actually still in the middle of arranging everything. It also has to do with our investors and company laws, as they need to be officially updated with this information on the 29th - which is why we chose this date.

    Quote:

    2. Will I be able to cancel my preorder?

No. The boxes will be released and shipped on September the 1st, only two months after the pre-order.

After looking at some of the comments on the forum I do realize there's some confusion around this. Different countries, publishers and/or stores seem to do this in different ways, and I'm truly sorry for the confusion. You will have to pay for the game the second you order it. The shop will of course state this information when it goes online. And it will go online before the 29th.

This is about the only way we can arrange this. We can guarantee 10000 active player accounts in Beta. If this turns out to be straight out impossible on one server, we have the option to start another one. But we can't start more unless we have the money to do it (and we won't start additional servers if there's no player base). And therefore we need the money from the pre-orders.

If all 10000 units are sold, it will be a very important confirmation for us. We will then have the funds (and financial motivation) to start more servers, to let more people in. But there will of course be a delay before those servers are up and running and accepting more players.

This means we can hopefully allow more than 10000 players before release, but we really do need those first 10000 to be able to take that step.

    Quote:

    3. It is being said, that preorder type of beta is a measure of overall interests in MO. What with those, who will only block the beta spot ?

Is there a possibility that you will secure 1-3k preorders for long time active forum members ?

Those already in Combat Beta will keep their spots in the future Beta stages, and several more are yet to be invited. However, those who are invited will still need to buy the game to be able to play the game from first day at launch. And the safest way to have a guaranteed spot at launch is to pre-order.

Regarding reserved pre-orders, I'm afraid this would require additional functions for both the shop and for the account management. This might sound like a small thing but I can assure you it's not. We will be using the major certified and secure MMO account service provider, and while very safe for both you and us, "exceptions" like this is conflicting with their usual way of doing things. Thus, it would be very expensive and require a lot of development time.

    4. beside paypal, there's a question about paying with debit cards - very popular in europe visa electrons. But is there eventually a chance to use money transfers ?

The shop will be accepting Visa Electron, Visa, Maestro, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Delta Online, Carte Bleu. We are currently working to enable PayPal and Ukash, more info on this later.

    We will ask full price.

In this phase we of course cannot compete with the prices and distribution of mass-market MMOs. Although we do aim to be at least a bit cheaper than Darkfall (Digital Only, 50€)

Yes.  If you can afford it, stop smoking.

  • RavenRaven Member UncommonPosts: 2,005

Like i mentioned on a previous post, they have been honest about what you will be paying for , if you cant afford to invest money on the game or just dont feel like it is worth it then dont do it, if you do, you are fully aware as to what you are buying, and unfinished product with great design (at least for me it is!) in need of financial support.

    On a side note:

Its ironic ppl saying "i will wait for free trial" when really they are in need of money, if every single person thought like that then the game would not even reach free trial cause they would probably just stop development :P , just funny not saying ppl should blindly buy it, like i said its an investment to whoever feels its worth it, it may become a great game or a pile of shit.

I dunno they lost point with me on their 180 spin with beta.  If the game actually does turn out looking good from beta leaks I will probably buy it upon release.  Players will forgive a developer if they have to release a semi unfinished game and are honest about it.  If we were not EVE would not be around.

    Word!

Now I can support them, and hopefully help them make the best game around (if I get a pre-order)! ;o)

Hell no.  If i cant cancel the preorder, definitely not.  Smells kinda fishy to me...

Guess i will just wait for beta leaks ;)

  • UbilisUbilis Member Posts: 10

Edit: No... not buying it too at least for now.

  • NizurNizur Member CommonPosts: 1,417

I'm still debating whether to pre-order. I got burned bad with AoC (along with countless others), so I'm really wary of shelling out money for a game I've never played that might suck donkeys.

Still, when June 29th comes around, I'll probably cave and get the digital edition.

    Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

No thank you i didn't  save myself 50$ and the disapointment by not pre-ordering a certain other game that did so recently just to be possibly had by this one. I'll just wait and see how the first few months will go and if what i see pleases me i will buy, i  still don't trust 100% the company even though i must admit that so far they have been more honest than a certain other one.

    Iiii-iiiiiit's.... me!!! *Hooray*

  • DiekfooDiekfoo Member Posts: 583

This game is not a massmarket game, so it is important we support them trying to make this game we soo much is loonging for. If they fail, ... there is nothing more to hope on, that will have this concept. Its impressing they just dare to trying to focus on this type of nish MMO.

  • kishekishe Member UncommonPosts: 2,012

I wont be preordering, I will be waiting for first few reviews.

Right now all we have is devs word that "the water is fine" but for all we know is we could be jumping in a lava pool.

if they plan on releasing half arsed version of the game and expect that we'll pay to play it believing that the rest 50% of the game will be in "soon", they deserve to go bankrubt right at launch...too many games have pulled that lately.

  • yukumoyukumo Member Posts: 86

Your dang right i will be preo-ordering! This game will be amazing

  • ArteanArtean Member UncommonPosts: 215

Yes, I'll preorder. Manily to show my support to their vision.

    .............
    When in doubt, troll.

  • YamotaYamota Member UncommonPosts: 6,593

Yes I will but not so much that I am eager to play it but because I want to support the devs. It is rare to see an FFA PvP sandbox MMORPG be released and with Darkfall being such a disaster I have my hopes up for this one.
