I don't play an elf or an orc in LotRO or VG. In LotRO I have a dwarf and a human. In VG, a lesser giant. Exotic races/species have their place in fantasy MMOs and I don't mind playing them if they look good, but one of the reasons I'm looking forward to MO is because it doesn't have the typical fantasy races. I'm kind of played out on the fantasy MMO altogether, but there's not too many other options atm.
Amen to that!
I guess I have been at this too long now: playing MMOs for more than a decade. It's my prefered form of entertainment due to the fantasy settings and socialization. But over the years I have gotten sort of tired of all the main titles being based on the LOTR books + D&D or the Warhammer universe (Warhammer and WOW.) At the same time I have little time for some of the over-the-top background stories and mechanics of the more popular oriental MMOs (Final Fantasy, etc.)
There's nothing I appreciate more in either MMOS or single player RPGs than when someone is creative and intelligent enough to create a new interesting world, but more importantly, new mechanics that are new and innovative but also polished enough to be fun.
And I don't think I'm alone in this.
As a matter of fact I might be talking about the holy grail of modern MMOs: something totally different and tremendously fun.
I watch and beta test a lot of new games and those in development looking for those factors. Conan and Darkfall were 2 I watched with interest but was ultimately dissapointed in.
This is the one I'm most watching now... lots of things about this game appeal to me much more than having wings

Here are a couple new quotes about races... or actually race attributes from the dev.
Ok, the races have their min and max caps, although I imagine few will actually bother to fully exploit them. Size will give you benefits (and in some cases drawbacks), although in a regular fight, mostly benefits. However, size will cost attribute points.
No, we haven't decided on the specific lengths yet, but to give you a made-up example: "Dwarfs" may have caps ranging from 1.60 to 1.90. A Human might have caps ranging from 1.65 to 2.05. A "Half-orc" may have caps from 1.70-2.15.
Then again, although size will affect for instance your HP and movement speed, it would be unwise to spend all your attribute points on size only.
----------------------
"Size" is mostly height. When it comes to overall "shape", Strength and Constitution have a large impact. You can be 2.00 and skinny if that's what you mean. And you can be 1.75 and built like Arnold. A human with 80-100 Str, 80-100 Const and 80-100 Size will be a muscle-mountain. It's possible, but then you'll have to sacrifice about everything else.

Hehe. What game could you possibly be referring to?
Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN
Yes Aion is the same grbage that we have played a million times before just with asian skins.
I personaly want STALKER or Armed Assault 2 MMO, I am sick of Elf, Orcs, magic etc :-/
Its lame that they aren't going to have any cool races. The reason is all the races have to be the same size to make it easier to code.
Shadowbane has tons of cools races, and they were a small company, so I don't know why they can't do it in MO.
The races are not going to be the same size. the deveopers even said that in their forum
